  1. If they had signed him to that deal in the off-season the uproar over his 1st half would have been massive. He's been a flop for most of the season. When the season still mattered, when we were just a team with hope like all the other teams, he was awful. The season has been over for quite some time, and suddenly he's pitching well and everyone is ready to hand over big money to this head case? I'm sorry, but that's called being a sucker.
  2. Every year the Twins count on Liriano and every year he lets them down. He had an awful 1st half of this season but he pitches well for 2 months and we want to extend him? He gets paid for a full season each year. Tell me, when was the last time he put together 1 full season of above average numbers? This is a guy you want to invest in long-term? Hopefully Terry Ryan is smarter than you are. Trade him, or offer him the 12 million and hope he turns it down. For those of you clamoring for the Twins to make an offer to him now......nobody signs a deal 2 months from FA. Certainly not a team-friendly deal.
  3. Make Robertson your LH specialist, give Burton the 8th and Perkins the 9th next season. Duensing & Swarzak stay. Burnett probably stays & Gray goes. Replaced by............one of the young arms at AAA or Waldrop.
  4. Yes. If he gets sent down, who takes his place? The Twins are playing well right now and Dozier is just a young kid taking his lumps. He'll be fine.
  5. By "now" do you mean 2014? Are you expecting this amazing college pitcher to step right into the rotation?
  6. When has this organization EVER payed for high-end free agents? I mean....EVER? They have not and they never will. If you are waiting for them to hold onto all of the vets and then go out and "buy their way back into contention" you are waiting for something that has NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. Like Delmon Young walking or Nick Blackburn striking someone out. It just doesn't happen. That's no solution. Look at the history of this organization and look at Terry Ryan's track record and then tell me how they Twins front office is going to address their needs. Deal in reality a little bit.
  7. So a contending team desperate for RH power calls and offers a nice package. We don't move a guy who is essentially a full-time DH and 33 years old? Because some people want to buy tickets to watch him hit HRs for a rebuilding team?
  8. Any player could be shut down at any minute. Look at Carlos Beltran's injury history. He's gotten traded in nice packages before and signed huge FA deals. If Morneau is playing 1B every day and hitting, someone will take a chance on him. If he's healthy he's a great slugger and a former MVP. Who wouldn't risk adding a bat like that to their lineup heading into the playoffs? As for not trading Morneau because of the fans.......if that's the case they may as well shut down the organization. We're going to finish last in our division for the 2nd season in a row. The M&M Boys are a distant memory. Those players are gone and they're likely never coming back. If you can get a nice package for Morneau and wipe $14 million off the books, you HAVE TO do it in order to increase the talent pool.
  9. Really? I hadn't heard that. If Morneau starts to hit and his wrist proves to be just fine, you don't think there's a team out there with room for him? The Cards have the money. It's not like he has 5 years left on his deal.
  10. Which of the potential contenders needs him, and what can a Morneau trade bring back?
  11. I think he has worked his way back into the "prospect" conversation. I really hope he's moved to Rochester after last night. Starting Maloney is a waste of a spot when a guy like Bromberg should be moved up to continue his development.
  12. I don't know why everyone is so certain the Twins are going to go pitcher at #2. They're not drafting for need. They're going BPA. If Buxton is there, i think they take him. I think they go P is he's gone. I'd prefer Correa, though.
  13. Sorry, I forgot the stud cather we have coming up through the minors. What's his name again? The best way to get the most value out of Mauer is to leave him at catcher. If we can sign a FA catcher, why can't we sign a FA 3B? Why do we need to resort to teaching a 28-29 year old lifetime catcher how to play 3B? 3B is much harder than 1B, sees a lot more hard chances and requires more movement and diving attempts. It hardly sounds like a solution to keeping Mauer healthy.
  14. We have a hole at 3B so to fill it we're going to move our Gold Glove catcher there, and in his place we're going to put a guy that hits .200 with no XB power whatsoever. Tell me what this solves again?
  15. If not Buxton, then give me Correa. Do we really want a guy who can throw 98mph but doesn't dominate at the collegiate level? College pitchers scare me anyway, and if none of the top collegiate pitchers are rated at the top end of the scale i'd rather take my chances with a high-upside position player. If Buxton goes #1, i like the idea of drafting Correa and signing him under slot to use that money on pitching with the supplemental picks.
  16. If the Twins are talking about Buxton at #2, shouldn't we see it as a smokescreen? I have never heard the Twins leak their pick preferences before. I mean....ever.
  17. Is the pitcher we're going to take at #2 stepping right into the rotation? Is he going to be our staff ace in 2013 and fill a huge hole? if the answer to both questions is no (it is) then you take the best player available, no matter the position. You don't draft for need. This isn't the NFL or NBA.
  18. Well, Plouffe is 25, Parmelee is 24, Revere is 23 and Benson is 24. All of them have played in the majors. They are hardly finished products at this point. Are writing them off already? I'm not. Just as i'm not writing off Wimmers or Gibson. However, many fans are clamoring for the Twins to pick a college pitcher at #2 because "the Twins need pitching" but that route is no more a sure bet than the toolsy position player. Possibly even less so. At #2 you draft best player available no matter which position they play. You don't reach to fill a need. Ever.
  19. Can you list the Twins' history of recent success drafting collegiate pitchers? Gibson. Wimmers. Serious arm injuries. No MLB starts yet. Now tell me again how important it is to draft a college pitcher becuase "the Twins need pitching help". We draft a guy HOPING he might become an ace, even though nothing in his prior performance shows that potential? No thanks. I'll take the "toolsy" HS player or the stud college position player. Hunter worked out fine. Revere has seen some big league time at a very young age. Hicks is on track.
  20. Don't we already know what Carroll is? He's a solid defender and a quality utility infielder. It's time to find out exactly what Trevor Plouffe is. We're looking toward next year and the years to come. Don't we need to know if Plouffe is a guy we're going to hang on to? Giving Carroll the bulk of the playing time at 3B is pointless. Spotting him all over the infield as the utility man is fine. Plouffe needs to play.
  21. I think it's fair to say that the Twins are looking to stock up on pitching in the draft, but i don't think that means they're set on using the #2 pick on a pitcher. None of the college pitchers are "ace" quality. I think they'll take a position player (Correa, Buxton or Zunino) with the #2 pick and then stock up on arms after that. You don't draft for need in MLB. Not with the #2 pick. That guy has to have the potential to be a star. If none of the college arms have that tag they're not going to use the #2 pick on them, they'll wait to grab pitching with their supplemental picks.
  22. Give Plouffe the 3B job.....or any job....for one month and see how he does. Please. Why would we want Carroll to take playing time at 3B? A 38 yr. old punchless .200 hitter? No thanks. A utility role is perfect for him. Calling up Mastroianni must mean that Plouffe is going to be seeing a lot of time at 3B. it also probably means that Parmelee is going to AAA when Morneau comes back.
  23. Let's be bad and get older while doing it. Great idea.
  24. You don't DFA Plouffe, you play him. He needs to be given ABs this season. DFA a #1 pick at age 25 without ever giving him a real shot? Replace him with a guy who strictly plays OF? Plouffe is the utility infielder on this club. He's not getting replaced by a 5th OFer. Mastroianni replacing Clete Thomas makes perfect sense and i'd like to see this happen today.
  25. I have no problems with Mauer. He's a great player. He's also making $23 million per year on a last place team that has many needs. I refuse to beleive you could not trade Mauer right now. I know he has a huge contract to move, but anything is possible with teams that spend like NY, Boston, Angels....etc. I singled him out only as a player that could bring us back some solid young players/prospects. The same goes for Span & Willingham. Morneau is tradeable if he comes back and hits. His contract is not so huge that a contender wouldn't be interested (if he comes back and hits). These would be unpopular moves with the casual fans (90% of Twins fans), but i think they need to happen in order to speed up the rebuilding process. Right now i don't consider the Twins to be in rebuilding mode. I don't think they felt (before the season) that they needed to rebuild. I think they probably see now that they do so it'll be interesting to see if they're willing to part with some popular players for future gains.
