  1. To add to this thread - baseball should not be played in these kind of weather conditions. You will not see a fundamentally good baseball game played when it is below 55 degrees F. I wish the season started later and MLB would have a schedule that has double headers built into the season that would alleviate upper mid-west baseball clubs from playing in winter conditions. Also, like the NFL's Super Bowl. The World Series should be played in a warm climate destination. I want to see baseball executed the right way and not effected by winter weather and the temperatures it brings with it.
  2. It is very refreshing to know that Escobar cares about Twin's baseball. It is not often obvious when a player sells his soul to Satan.
  3. Good idea, bad idea, who cares. It's a good thing to keep things fresh most of the time.
  4. Sorry, I meant 10 games as I skipped over our series finally with the O's tomorrow. As far as OF's go on the Twin's 40 man roster, we have 2 who should not be called up as of yet - Arcia and Benson - after that we have no one, except for Herrmann (C/OF) - I could envision that happening.
  5. Hey RB. I would like to think you know I am in Hicks' corner. It has been a rough first 5 games for him - very rough. His play has been comparable to the looks of Sandra Bernhard. He needs to get rid of his yips, wrangle his fears and anxieties, and play the game of baseball. Hell, he might need a demotion to put it all together, but I am hoping he can summon his baseball greatness in the next few days and begin to climb the charts of positive output. That does not mean going 4 for 4 - it might mean a 1 for 4, 2 for 5, 1 for 3 games... after 15 games, if he is hitting under .100, and playing a scared CF, that may be a sign he should not be on the big league club. I do not think it will come to this.
  6. Stepping aside my homage to my grandfather, I had earlier stated that you should let Hicks have a few more baseball series to right his ship. If he is batting .050 after 12-15 games and playing a stiff Center Field, it would seem logical to send him down to AAA or AA to get his legs back under him... right? I want to be clear on this - I am a big Aaron Hicks fan and he is one of the reasons I was excited to watch this team because he won the CF job. In my heart, I can honestly say, I do not want him to fail more than anyone who participates on this site. Aaron needs to pull it together in the next 9 games to make it clear his development is not being choked by being in the big leagues and he is not choking the Twins chances of coalescing a line-up.
  7. In honor of my grandfather, I will use a quote he used quite often: "It's time for Aaron to S@#T or get off the pot."
  8. River Brian, you are a man of optimism - That's a compliment. It seems apparent to me that Hicks has let this bad start to his season get into his head, and that is the thing that concerns me the most. I do not want to see Hicks' start to this season get any worse than it is now. Obviously people in the right positions think his make-up is good and he can handle the adversity, and I trust that to a certain extent, but every now and then some high end prospects get Mind "Bleeped" with their first exposure to the MLB and have a long road back to recovery. To take a page from your book of optimism - Hicks will turn this around and all will be good. In the next 3 games he will figure some things out and hold his own, with a few bumps in the road as the season progresses.
  9. Excellent win for the Twins. As much as it pains me too say it, Aaron Hicks has looked awful thus far. Offensively he has looked over matched and tight and he looks pretty tightly wound while patrolling CF also. We are only 5 games in and you most definitely should not hit the panic button, but I cannot imagine they can let him struggle like this after the next 2 series. Hopefully they give him a day off tomorrow, give him some words of encouragement and a kick in the rear, and he can start anew in Kansas City and right his ship. The last thing I want to read is "I told you so" commentary coming from the crowd that believes Hicks needs more seasoning and that we may lose a year of service time if we play out this string too far. Come on Hicks - Let's get this S@#t started!!!
  10. Of course all Twin's players are to be considered. Because I am in such a positive and peppy state of mind right now, the P's must have infiltrated my subconscious. Oh, I have another one: The Parmelee Pancho... Damn, I see what you mean.
  11. Pedro Florimon's final 2013 Offensive Stat Line: AB's: 432 Avg.: .375 Doubles: 52 Hell, we have a modern day "Wee" Willie Keeler in our midst... minus the stolen bases and runs scored of course.
  12. Before we start worrying about the parade route, I am of the opinion that we as Twin's Fans need to find a replacement for the ancient and obsolete Homer Hanky. I could very well see that hampering the Twin's destined march towards their inevitable goal of claiming the World Series Trophy. I have a few ideas: 1. The Pelfrey Purse 2. The Plouffe Scoop Anyone else?
  13. Geez, 2 wins in less than 24 hours. I am not sure how to describe the feelings I am experiencing - could it be optimism? Could it be happiness? Could it be that I am feeling the effects of a few adult beverages? Whatever it is, I think it is a good feeling. It is nice to get a quick start out of the gate.
  14. The pancreas is some serious "bleep". I truly hope Carl recovers from his infection, quits baseball without a second thought, and enjoys his life with his loved ones.
  15. Any performance given in game one and two should be ignored or given a mulligan. 30-45 degree weather is not conducive for playing the game of baseball.
  16. You will need a better and bigger bait to catch the fish you desire.
  17. Not to steal this opportunity from Leviathan, but versatility leads to a better MLB opportunity, especially when you are athletic and able to play catcher and another position worthwhile. Maybe Herrmann does not project a starter in the Bigs, but let's not fool ourselves with the notion that Herrmann's bat doesn't trump Butera's bat 10 fold. Butera might call a good game and work well with pitchers, but if you can't handle the bat and you are not a pitcher, you do not belong in the Bigs. Butera has been an awful hitter at every level. Maybe Butera should play the role of a good organizational man, do his due diligence at AAA, I would imagine there is a role waiting for him in the organization as a coach. Who knows - someday he may end up being pitching coach or even manager of the MN Twins.
  18. Hello Mr. Brooks. Are you a man of religious faith?
  19. Although the most value comes from Mauer when he is catching, the way the Twins used him last year seemed to work out well and might be the best plan to utilize Joe's talents in 2013. My gut tells me Mauer has his 2nd or 3rd best hitting season, behind, of course, 2009. We will all have to live with him catching 80-100 games. If it keeps his bat in the line-up, and healthy, I certainly have no problem making peace with that scenario.
  20. I will only comment on the song: 1. That song is straight out of one of the handful of Dirt Bike Movies from the 1980's. 2. After hearing this song I began having nightmares that I was stuck living in the 1980's. 3. The song would be much, much better if Trey Parker and Matt Stone wrote the lyrics.
  21. Merci. Vous êtes un homme très gentil.
  22. I like it, but nah. Walker and Romero were 1st round picks that were suppose to be franchise leading players. It certainly did not work out for Walker, but the book is not written for Romero. Lohse never had those high hopes attached to him.
  23. Agreed. If only it was a buy low move and the 7.5M salary could be avoided. His acquisition would trump the Twin's Free Agent signings this past offseason.
  24. Oops... I did not take into account the salary owed to him this season. 7.5M - Ouch! No one will eat that salary. If the Jays were to (eat his salary), I'd still take a chance and see if a change of scenery could light a new fire, but why would they (Blue Jays)?
  25. Ricky Romero has been optioned to AAA by the Toronto Blue Jays. It makes one wonder if he may be falling out of favor in Toronto and needs a change of scenery. In the last half week I put out a thread asking whether the Twins should sign Jon Garland after his release from the Mariners - that was more or less meant as a conversational piece and for "bleeps" and giggles. Ricky Romero is actually intriguing. 12 or 13 years ago the Twins fell out of love with a talented, former top prospect, Todd Walker, sent him to AAA, and quickly traded him to the Rockies. Walker didn't have the most most stellar career, but had some fairly good offensive seasons after that trade. The return for Todd Walker was minimal. I wonder if we have the Todd Sears in our farm system to acquire Ricky Romero? I cannot imagine many participants of this site would be bummed out by that trade scenario.
