  1. Here's my take: 1. 3 teams from the AL West make the playoffs. 2. Jason Heyward wins NL MVP (38 HR's, .332 BA, 125 RBI's). 3. Bud Selig steps down as Commish. 4. Mauer wins another batting title (.342 with an added bonus of 17HR's) 5. Bryce Harper also eludes the sophomore slump with a line of .280 BA, 32 HR's, 102 RBI's, 18 SB's. 6. Adam Wainwright wins NL Cy Young (2.30 ERA, 21 Wins, 205 SO's). 7. Toronto does not make the playoffs, Anthopolous (?) retains his job. 8. R.A. Dickey has the following Line: 4.20 ERA, 13 Wins, 12 Losses, 130 SO's. 9. Anson Williams sings the National Anthem, Game 1, World Series. 10. Braves over the Yankees 4 games to 1.
  2. Interesting. Since this is your thread - what are the rules of engagement? Can we make our own predictions or are we to comment on yours or both? I'll start with a commenting on yours: 1. Dodgers finish 2nd in NL West. Wild Card Winner. 2. The Redbirds win the NL Central. They win it by the skin of their teeth. Injuries make it a difficult season, but Cincinatti under achieves and fails to live up to their expectations. The Cubs finish 2nd in the NL Central. 3. I concure. Although their offense will be pretty respectable this season. Their pitching excels and Jason Heyward makes his claim as one of the best players in MLB. 4. That honor goes to the AL East (No S@#t!) 5. The Yankees win the AL East:( 6. It will be Cleveland 7. It won't happen, but the Cubs will give the Nationals a run for their money for the final Wild Card Spot. 8. No sophomore slump for Trout, but it is not as good as his rookie season (.290ish BA, Mid-20 HR's, 50 SB's) 9. It won't be easy, but he clears it by 2-8 wins. 10. The odds are in your favor.
  3. Nick, nice write up. For me personally, you left no room for argument/debate/whatever. That's a good thing. It seems as if it has been a long time since the Twins have had a breakout performance from a position player offensively. This year we have 2 or 3 that could fit that mold. If one of these guys breaks through, that would be great. If two break through and the whole of the line-up stays healthy - it might be a pretty damn good offense to watch while they try to out score their opponents. Parmelee has the ability to be a good MLB hitter with some thunder in his bat. Hopefully this season is the first of many solid offensive seasons in the career of Mr. Parmelee. We shall see...
  4. I am not a projectionist for a fantasy baseball rag, a baseball analysis yearly, or whatever. I am merely a fan, making a prediction based upon instinct, based upon visual, based upon nothing because that is what I want to have happen. I get it Labombo. I am into baseball for different reasons than you. I think your post was friendly and all, but I have a different approach to baseball than you have. I roll my dice differently and march to the beat of a different drummer. When the 2013 season is over and if my predictions are far off, search me out and give me your lecture, I will happily listen, take it in, and work from there. It most probably won't change my approach.
  5. 1. The Twins will use more than 10 starting pitchers: It will be close - my guess is 11. 2. Aaron Hicks will be optioned to Rochester at some point this year: No, although he will struggle at a few points in the season, Hicks hits .272, with 21 HRS, 69 RBI's, 92 R's, and a .374 OBP and wins Rookie of the Year. His time has come. 3. At least two players that go north will be traded by the July 31 trade deadline: Yes, Jamey Carroll, Josh Willingham and Brian Duensing are traded by July 31, 2013. 4. Pedro Florimon will not start 100 games at SS for the 2013 Twins: Absolutely not. 5. Brian Dozier will establish himself as a major league regular at second base: For the most part. He hits .262, with 8 HR's, 13 SB's, 63 R's, and a .324 OBP.
  6. Aw shucks. It appears that Jon Garland has signed with the Colorado Rockies. He must have missed pitching and giving up HR's in a Home Run orientated Ballpark. If that is the case, he found a good suiter.
  7. Unfortunately, pessimism is behind my being okay with the Twins signing Garland. When one of Correia, Pelfrey, etc., etc implodes, which recent history indicates could be a definite possibility, our starting pitching depth will again be left in shambles. I am totally on board with some of the prospects getting their licks in (Hendriks, Gibson, Hermsen), but realistically, Gibson will be on a pitch count and Meyers and Mays are not ready. That could change, but I am no fortune teller. Signing Garland is not a big risk... if he will have us of course.
  8. buen día bcntwinsfan. As I am Lesser Dali my Spanish speaking and interpretation skills are not so good - being that, I was still able to piece it together. Your response to this thread is the best response I have ever received and will make my day all the much better. I can only surmise that the Salvador Dali Museum is a must visit in one's lifetime. tenga cuidado de mi amigo, Lesser Dali P.S. "tits are needed in a bull"
  9. I don't really want to speculate on the Trade Scenario. I went conservative on Parmelee's offensive output. I dig and hope what you have predicted on Parmelee comes to fruition!
  10. I see that Jon Garland has been released from the Seattle Mariners. Does anyone think the Twins should sign him to a minor league deal and see how it plays out? Maybe this year we have some starting pitching depth, but that definitely only plays in the quantity department, certainly not quality. Even though he has had a bum shoulder the last two years, he has had a good spring training stat wise. Some say that spring training pitching stats don't matter much, but his line trumps most or all of our starting pitchers this spring. My vote would be yes, and although he is pretty much the same as rest of the lot, he would have a 1st class ticket on The Boat heading to the Twin's Island of Misfit Starting Pitchers. Kevin Correia would be called upon to be the head of his welcoming party.
  11. This probably isn't totally in line with the question you asked, but I would guess Brian Harper was a non-roster invitee in 1988, was sent to the minors at the close of spring training, was brought up to the bigs after a month or two and went on to have a super solid half of a decade of play as starting catcher for the Twins.
  12. I am curious to know what kind of line would constitute a successful season for Chris Parmelee this season from the TD Participant's point of view. My successful expectation is the following BA - .270 HR - 16 RBI - 70 OPS: .785 Defense (RF): Positively execute the Routine plays
  13. Trevor Plouffe seems to be a controversial figure on Twin's Daily. From my viewpoint there appears to more Pro and Anti Plouffe individuals than middle of the road individuals. I could be wrong about this, but it is beside the point. What are your predictions for Trevor Plouffe this season? This is mine: BA: .259 HR: 32 RBI: 96 OPS: .830 Errors (3B): 17
  14. Obviously SS is going to be a hemorrhoid for the Twins this season. I would imagine when all is said and done Carroll will get the majority of playing time at that position this season. It seems like the Twins are somewhat optimistic about Daniel Santana as a possible answer to this void a few years from now, but that's a crap shoot. Barring a trade or free agent signing, Shortstop looks to be a statue of inequity for the Twins in the foreseeable future.
  15. It is fair to criticize Trevor Plouffe, but it is also not out of line to be optimistic about his potential future production. My gut feeling is that after the 2013 season, Trevor Plouffe will have a title attached to his name - ALL-STAR.
  16. From my perspective Hendrick's plays out to be a #4 starter. Deduno, although advanced in age, seemingly has more upside as his "stuff" is wicked, whether he can control it or not. In 2013 the Twins have nothing to lose on taking chances. Given the circumstance, I believe Deduno should take presendence over Hendriks. Hendriks will eventually get his day in the sun.
  17. I have two horses - their names are Sam and Liam. If I was a cowboy and I needed to go wrangle some renegade cattle, right now Sam is the horse I would choose to ride to execute my objective.
  18. As far as art & pornography go, I am still trying to figure out where Maplethorpe stands. The last sentence of your post is the money maker. If there is policing to be done, great efforts should be put towards preventing that.
  19. That thought has definitely crossed my mind.
  20. In my opinion the WBC is legit. It brings out some cool energy you do not often get to see during the MLB regular season. The Dominican Republic played with an uber amount of guts and glory and Deduno was definitely one of forefront participants. I have to believe that Deduno is the leader in the mix for one of the last starting rotation spots. If he is not, that just means that the Twin's Organization was not watching. A great hope of mine is that Deduno takes a good amount of his swagger from playing with the DR and brings it to the Twin's clubhouse. Maybe the WBC is the infusion of good juju Deduno needs to spin his career upwards. Fingers crossed
  21. If the noose is pulled too tight on this site - everyone will be hanged. In most scenarios of life, you have heroes, anti-heroes. and the others. Most of the folks on this site are the others, and that is not a bad thing. The truth is this - maybe uber-bullying posters should be banded, but this site needs a little bit of risque behavior. Lighten up the reigns - less on policing. P.S. - I have seen a few posters that I appreciate disappear from this site because of the crack down - a period of lightening up would not hurt.
  22. What I have seen is a bit different than an "Individual Player" showing unnecessary swagger - Danny Valencia has some talent, but in my book, his swagger is called arrogance. It is foggy for me to recollect Pascual Perez's career. It was in my era, but he has had a brother or two pitch in Bigs, and maybe a nephew, son, etc... Can't say. I think it is different when a complete team has a swagger. To me that means that they are a congealed team and have the same objective as a whole and they show their unity by expressing it in a everything's on the line, unified, passion movement. I agree with you on what you said, not that I like it, but I am fairly certain what edge of the sword I would like to be cut with.
  23. First and foremost, the Babe Ruth of Girl Scout Cookies is Samoas. CASE CLOSED. Second, I have been super impressed by the passion and play of the Dominican Republic baseball team in the WBC. If I have been lulled to sleep by the play of some of the WBC participating teams, the DR is making up for it big time. Even though the DR has a talented team, they are playing with a swagger that has been unmatched. Their confidence and national pride are laid out for all to see. Watching the games they have played is the kind of baseball I would like to see played on a daily basis. I know that is not possible in a MLB 162 game schedule, but I really have not seen it in the postseason lately half of the time. I imagine there are a lot of factors that go into a player and team’s decision making in letting a player participate in WBC, and in turn some of the best players won’t be able to participate. One thing is for sure – Every team that participates in the next WBC should take a page out of the Dominican Republic’s playbook and play with their balls to the wall, wear their National Pride on their sleeve, and Fight to the death with passion!!! Hopefully next time around the WBC rosters will be at their best and at the very least, MLB players will take notice of the way the Dominican Republic has represented itself and implement that passion, play, and exuberance into the 2013 postseason. Good Luck Dominican Republic!
  24. One of the All-Time Baseball Greats, Stan "The Man" Musial, passed away earlier this afternoon. One cannot argue with his baseball stats and achievements. Even more important, it seems to be apparent that he was one of the all-time good human beings to be involved in baseball and out of it. R.I.P. Stan - you will never be forgotten
