  1. I thought Hudson Boyd was suspended? What gives?
  2. I like Adam Brett Walker to see what the Twins actually have. Can he make the adjustments against advanced pitching? I also like Zach Jones again if he's healthy. I also like Travis Harrison since he will be a 40 man roster decision in 2015. It will tell if he should move to AA next spring or repeat high A for a few months. Definitely Buxton. Maybe Bundi (limited role). If he excels - Move him to AA right away next spring. Rosario needs more reps at the advance level as well. I'm surprised no one mentioned him. Can't Rosario and Vargas both get OKs from Puerto Rico to participate.
  3. Talk about disrespected all year. Kanzler was sent up to Fort Myers before JD. Kanzler had a great 1st game in FM, but still? JD Williams is not even listed on your organizational depth chart. Is this a premonition? I hope they release him after the season so he can have a legitimate chance to play at a higher level for some organization. He might be a life time AA guy, but he definitely wasn't a A+ ball demotion player IMO.
  4. Earlier this week Adam Brett Walker tied Brock Peterson (2006) for the Fort Myers Miracle Franchise HR record. It was a 450 foot shot out of the stadium in LCF. All while eading the FSL in HRs - RBI - and Strikeouts, Walker has managed to stay in the Top of the FSL in Runs (7th) and Total Bases (5th). His low OBP and K rate have been his major flaws thus far in his short professional career. That being said: Walker is the only college 3rd rounder (position player) to still be playing in the FSL from the 2012 draft (who hasn't spent significant time on the disabled list). Joey DeMichele (Carolina League) is the only other college 3rd rounder still in High A and he is repeating High A this season. Trivia Question: Who is the last minor leaguer to lead his leagues in HRs at each level of his career? Leading the FSL in HRs (by 7) should warrant consideration for a promotion. If he falters at AA - Let him repeat AA next year. Throw a dog a bone........ (21 HR / 75 RBI / 97 Games).
  5. Almora .283 BA / .306 OBP Pays to be the #6 pick in the draft Cubs are said to have the best minor league system in baseball this year. Love how they treat each player differently in terms of promotion rationale. Players are not always as fragile as everyone makes them to be. They understand that failure comes with the game and that they are in the minors for a reason. I wish the Twins would let some of their prospects move a little quicker (even if it meant repeating a level after an aggressive promotion). Baby steps = Congrats to Jorge Polanco going to AA. Look for that September call up.
  6. Any thoughts on what makes FSL so difficult historically?
  7. As I look at the FSL and the statistical abnormalities - I wonder how their overall numbers compare with other leagues throughout the minors. The FSL is considered the hardest league to hit either HRs or register Scored Runs per game. The highest batting average in 2013 for anyone with at least 125 games was [.289]. The highest batting average in 2012 was [.302]. This year (21014) the highest average with anyone over 95 games is [.287]. The FSL is considered a pitchers league, although many a hitting prospect will flourish in the first half of FSL seasons. Is it the warm weather that brings so many averages down? Is it the humid conditions that limit HRs from flying out the bigger parks like so many other leagues? Is it that the pitching just endures better than a hitters consistency? Why does the FSL have such low numbers compared to other minor league's across the country? Where else would (13) qualify for second place in HR totals at this point in the season? Those are the questions that lead me to say that the FSL is the hardest league in minor league baseball. What says you..............................
  8. Matt Tomshaw atop the Twins minor league leaderboard with 9 Wins. His knuckleball is worth everyone taking notice of. You may not want to compare it to a 95 MPH fastball, but the results are the same. Bad contact and weak hits most of the time. Tomshaw helps Miracle win 10th game in 11 contest. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20140721&content_id=85646604&fext=.jsp&vkey=recap&sid=t509
  9. I can see Max going to CR though, without promoting anyone else (OF) in CR. He is mashing in ETown.
  10. I get that Kanzler is playing well, but why him and not JD Williams? His past performances should be enough to at least get him back to high A (Ft. Myers). Has Williams fallin off that much since last spring? If he didn't get hurt in Spring Training he would have been in Ft. Myers (100%). Kepler is in CF for Ft. Myers so why would they bring in Kanzler to spot play when he is getting reps everyday in CR? Harrison in LF and Walker in RF and Roberts also spot playing in the OF.
  11. Where will Levi Michel go when he returns soon. I see he has been playing SS in GCL as well. Does this mean Polanco could move up to AA at SS or does Michel move up at SS?
  12. The Miracle are quietly putting together an excellent 2nd half. They have won 9 of 10 and have found ways to win. The 17 inning game has been there only recent slip up and they went 17 innings without an error. They have shown great mental discipline lately. It has been a collection of players leading the charge as well: Michael Gonzalez has something like a 12 or 14 game hitting streak Travis Harrison has been the most consistent hitter this half and doubles machine Stuart Turner is tremendousa behind the plate and slows down everyones run game Aderlin Mejia has been extremely clutch with runners in scoring position Dalton Hicks is starting to show why he led the minors in RBI again Niko Goodrum has been asked to play out of position, yet sparks many a rally offensively Adam Brett Walker although inconsistent this year still manages to spark rallies as well Jorge Polanco is just Jorge - starting to get hot again. Max Kepler although having a down year - has been beyond great with bases loaded Nate Roberts is a doubles machine but can't seem to play everyday (health) Buxton - enough said Pitcing has been consistent. Matt Tomshaw will look to continue his magic tonight.
  13. I agree with minor league players (Arcia) and others. Let them play. Dominating AAA doesn't help them adjust to whatever the problem is at the MLB level. I never hear about the adjustments the coaches are making with the batters approach. It is always why isn't the player making the neccessary adjustments? You see coaches make in game adjustments all the time in football and basketball. I would like to know - What are the Twins telling these minor league struggling athletes to do (adjustments)? Not just patience - but slow this down - speed this up - move hands here - move feet there - etc. etc.! Arcia, Colabello, Pinto, Hicks are too good to be this bad on a regular basis. IMO
  14. Talk about killing a kids spirit.................
  15. Why promote him last season to high A at mid season only to send him back down to Low A all of this season? Doesn't seem fair to the player. They never seem to give players reasons for their moves. I know they are property (of the Twins), but you would think last years move doesn't justify this years move. Had he not gotten hurt in spring training - he surely would have been in Fort Myers.
  16. Miracle lose 11-7 to Daytona Cubs on a walk off grand slam by "Rock Shoulders". The Miracle had the bases loaded with nobdy out in the top of 17th and couldn't score - K's by Hicks - Walker and Goodrum killed the rally. 23 hits and 23 K's for the Miracle + they walked 12 batters. They never should have lost (up 7-1 thru 6 innings), but were also lucky to ever be in the game (20 LOB). Tyler Jones pitched a great 9th minus the solo HR he gave up to lead off the inning ad tie the game. He follwed by striking out the side. Great game by Buxton and Polanco. Nate Roberts had a great game too before leaving game for some reason. That ends a 7 game win streak for Miracle. Back at it tomorrow. Oh - I mean later today. [5 hour 41 minute game]
  17. Matt Tonshaw should be the focus of this thread anyway. Another awesome performance and again no true respect for a pitch that has MLB upside. Why is his dominant knuckler less celebrated than many of these 90 to 93 fastball throwing prospects who have no control and don't have a feel for pitching. Dickey is a old knuckle ball thrower and age doesn't matter much when you have that pitch. Tomshaw's age should notbe a major concern because he does have a pitch that NO ONE else in organization can throw effectively. Move the man up and let's see what he can do at AA!!
  18. Done. What do you want to talk about? I'm game for anything Twin related.
  19. *League MVP in Low "A" ball despite awful OBP *HRs in every 4.5 games despite playing in "The FSL Pitchers League" where hitters notoriouisly don't hit HRs or hit for high averages. *The highest BA in the FSL in 2013 was .289 with at least 125 games played. *Lifetime .309 OBP is not far off this years .295 OBP - So he is doing what he normally does (in theory). HRs and RBIs (Every Year consistently) *Oh yeah 2nd on team in scoring by 1 run despite getting on base less than everyone else. Although people try to discount the HRs because singles and BBs should be easier to come by if you change your approach. *His teams win............... With him doing what he does in the middle of lineup. (Every year)
  20. Not sure that will make believers out of most. But maybe the 4th time is the charm?
  21. I'm confident Walker can shatter this record and not only because he's staying in A+ longer than most. I think so because he hits HRs at a higher rate than all of the Power hitters in the Twins organization / system (not named Sano). Sano would have easily broke it. The following players hit a HR every ___ games while in the minor leagues. Miguel Sano every 4.2 games Adam Brett Walker every 4.5 games (has led his league at every level thru minors) Chris Colabello every 5.2 games Kennys Vargas every 6.4 games Brock Peterson every 7.1 games (Miracle record holder at 21 HRs) Oswaldo Arcia every 7.4 games Chris Parmelee every 7.8 games Trevor Plouffe every 10.5 games Those Top 4 could be fun to watch in 2016. What I really like about Walker as well, is that he seems to be durable (knock on wood). He has played in 93% of the games his teams have played over the course of 3 seasons.
  22. It just makes it that more important to get the right guy to throw to you. These guys have coaches who throw 5 million BP balls a day. They can find someone to groove some to them for 2 minutes while remaining accurate. It would probably be better pitching if the pitcher didn't have to wait 20 seconds in between each pitch for towel wipe downs; glove adjustments; and Gatorade breaks.
  23. In an attempt to keep the HR Derby interesting at the All Star game - I suggest they use a time limit (2 minutes) format like they did in the FSL All Star game. Each participant has 2 minutes to hit as many as he can. The time count down would at least give fans some form of climax as time worked down. It would also make things move quicker. Not all the towel wipe downs or Gatorade breaks. What are your thoughts on this format?
  24. You're probably right on timeline
