  1. I agree with you on Manship.. But I'm curious if you watched PJ's starts. His fastball was hovering around 89-91 before he hurt his shoulder(same velocity as Diamond). He has a nasty curve ball and a solid changeup. If you're basing it on stuff.. Hermsen and Hernandez have similar velocity as Walters. I do believe in Hernandez more due to the fact he has an out pitch.. His change up. Hermsen still hasn't developed a plus pitch.. So he needs more work.
  2. I think a lot of people are living in the moment from the win vs the A's last night on Duensing being a viable starter. Prior to last night he had given up 32 runs in 38.1 innings as a starter. He has a 5.31 K/9 ratio, isn't a ground ball pitcher, and still struggles to get RH batters out. He is very good out of the pen in short stints however and does have value. Personally I think we can cash in that value this offseason. Especially if we feel Robertson can step into his role. Seems to me a package of Denard Span, Brian Duensing, Alex Burnett for James Shields makes sense. Rays won't have a CF next year with Upton leaving and they have 4 veteran relievers that are free agents: Rodney, Peralta, Farnsworth, and Howell. They get 3 big league players with 3 years of control each and we get the ace we're looking for. We would have him under control for 2 years/21 million
  3. I like the plan Seth but I do disagree on Manship being one of the guys to start. I think we've seen enough in 4 years to tell us that he can't get major league batters out consistently. The guy I do want to see is Pedro Hernandez. He's 23.. Shown improvement every year he's been in pro ball and he's been outstanding his last 2 starts for Rochester. The experience should be good for him cause I have a feeling he has a good chance to be part of the twins' future in some capacity. I do want to mention that I really hope PJ gets 100% before he returns. People forget how outstanding he was early on this year. Watching him pitch.. he was never the same after his complete game against the white sox.. and I think that's where he hurt his shoulder. His next start he walked 5 batters when he had walked 5 his previous 3 starts combined in 21 innings.. And it just got worse from there. I remember wondering why his velocity was down to 84-86 in his last few starts before he admitted he was hurt. I don't blame the guy.. He finally got his shot and he wanted to pitch. But I hope this time he makes sure he's 100% so we can see him at his best. I want to see him have a shot at a rotation spot next year. I think he can be a solid #5
  4. "I told one of my employees to do my job" is not a valid excuse. Might be the best comment I've read
  5. I mean.. Let's be honest.. What he's currently doing isn't sustainable. But I do agree he should finish out the season.. But he does need to improve his walk rate. Hard to believe he will.. considering he's almost 30 and still hasn't figured it out but I hope he does cause he does have good stuff. For the Deduno lovers.. Get excited about Esmerling Vasquez. Should be up September. Similar to Deduno. Wild with good stuff.. Has a much better track record though.
  6. Lol I wasn't trying to justify his problems. He's a bad pitcher.. No doubt about it. But if he's going to be on the roster.. For some apparent reason that no one knows of (free Slama).. Then you have to at least put him in better situations to pitch. His stuff is similar to Robertson in that they only throw two pitches.. It's just Robertson doesn't throw his fastball as hard but has more movement on it. He has a low 90s fastball that he can sneak by righties at times because he has a slider that dives down and away from righties. But he's a one pitch pitcher to lefties cause when he throws his slider to lefties it dives down and in which is their happy zone
  7. Maybe Deduno should talk about how poorly Gardy manages. Putting in Robertson yesterday in a 2-2 game when Perkins had thrown 8 pitches in a week which made Robertson unavailable today.. Which forced Gray in the game to pitch to 4 consecutive left handed batters.. (LH batters' OPS is over 200 points higher against Gray than RH batters).. only to bring in Perkins in a 5-1 game just to get some work in. I understand players have to play but the manager's job is to put the players in the best position to succeed. I've watched blunders like this all year.. And no one says a word. At some point shouldn't he be held accountable instead of throwing his players under the bus? The Astros just canned their manager for having the worst record in the NL. A team where only die hard baseball fans could name more than 5 players on their team with a payroll at this point well under $50 million. Well our team has double the payroll and two former league MVPs and we have the worst record in the AL.
  8. Arcia has some glaring splits. .411/.491/.674 @ home .273/.342/.455 on the road And the one that really stands out.. .219/.324/.292 with bases empty .459/.504/.827 with runners on Crazy.. More than double the OPS! Can't really complain though.. It's more ideal than the other way around but I wonder why such a gap.
  9. Brian Dozier left the game with an injury. Anyone know any details on what happened?
  10. 18 years old.. Already throws a mid 90s fastball with a plus slider and his change up is getting better. Nice to be excited about a pitcher in the organization for once. It's been a while
  11. It's looking inevitable that Blackburn is going to be in the rotation at the start of next year. Since his return from Rochester he has "improved". 30 IP.. 19 ER for an ERA under 6 and if you take out the one start at Chicago 25 2/3 IP.. 11 ER for an ERA under 4. Then take a look at his next 7 starts.. @Seattle.. @Oakland.. Seattle.. @KC.. Cleveland.. KC.. @Cleveland.. Not exactly powerhouse offenses and some good ballparks to pitch at. Finally include the fact that he's "Gardy's guy" and all signs point to his return to the rotation next year. To be honest I root for the guy.. He seems to care.. And it's not like he wants to be this bad.. But I do think he is currently the worst starting pitcher in the league. If he regains his 08-09 form I'll be the first to raise my hand.. And for the twins sake.. I hope I have to raise my hand.
  12. He's probably listed as a SS but Marco Scutaro is a significant upgrade IMO. Career .338 OBP and .725 OPS with no sign of regression. Can play all positions in the infield.. Solid defensively.. almost never strikes out and has enough power to at least be a threat. Would be nice for 2 years til hopefully Rosario is ready and Carroll can be a very solid utility guy without the threat of getting to 400 ABs
  13. Ah okay. How did his stuff look? And what was wrong with his delivery? Too much going on? And yeah they both have been dissapointing. Boer more so. But I read that Boer's fastball drops from high 90's as a reliever to low 90's as a starter. That's why the huge drop off.
  14. He wasn't a Top 50 guy for me coming into the year, but he'll certainly be in consideration between 30-40 probably. He's been solid. Yeah I did a top 50 for fun and I have Polanco at 36. Just curious Seth.. Are you high on Baxendale like I am? And do you have any idea if they plan to make Melotakis, Chargois, Duffey, or Zach Jones starters next year?
  15. I agree he is having a great year at his age and level. But as far as being a prospect.. He just doesn't project well to the majors. He's similar to Liam Hendriks except less strikeouts which is not a good sign. He has a 1 to 1 ground ball to fly ball rate.. Also a bad sign. Those two things combined.. He won't be able to sustain being a starter in the majors. He either has to increase his strikeouts or start getting more ground balls. That's why Liam Hendriks hasn't had success and is working on it in the minors.
  16. I think Nishi is horrible but his twins experience didn't hurt the franchise that much. If Hardy was our SS this year or last would we have made the playoffs anyway? No. Too many injuries last year and just horrific pitching this year. If anything.. to put a positive spin on it.. maybe the few million a year we saved now goes to a guy like Doumit who we have for a couple more years. Instead the guy we really need to erase the memory of is Nick Blackburn. He literally costs the team several wins a year for the last few years.. yet he's still starting every 5th day. He is the worst starter in the major leagues. He has an average fastball and below average secondary pitches yet Gardy has already stated that "he's one of our guys.. He'll be one of our starters next year". I just don't get it.. Hopefully the organization comes to their senses before opening day next year. Eat the 5.5 million and call it a day.. or better yet eat 4.5 of it and see if a national league team hopes he can be the second coming of Jason Marquis in a trade for a cardboard box
  17. Yeah it's tough. But I agree almost everyone would have a similar top 1-7 or so just a slight different order. I really like Baxendale though. Everything I've heard has been good about him. I don't agree with them putting him in the bullpen though. He's a starter and wants to start but they want to keep his innings down. I believe in keeping pitchers in their comfort zone to maximize their growth. Another example is Madison Boer. He should be a reliever maybe even closer. He's lights out in short stints but clearly struggles as a starter. Instead he'll probably waste 2-3 years struggling as a starter and get put back in the pen and by the time he figures it out again he'll be 26-27 instead of other successful teams that have 22-24 yr old power relievers in the pen. Tyler Robertson could have been up a couple years ago if they didn't waste time trying to make him a starter. Sorry I've gone off the subject.. Just not too happy with the organization right now
  18. Hey guys.. I'm new to the site. Here's my top 10 1. Miguel Sano 2. Byron Buxton 3. Oswaldo Arcia 4. Max Kepler 5. Eddie Rosario 6. J.O. Berrios 7. Aaron Hicks 8. Kyle Gibson 9. DJ Baxendale 10. Angel Mata Couple of notes I want to add are that I don't consider Parmelee a prospect anymore or he would have been #10 and I think Rosario at #5 is the surest thing in the top 5 but 1-4 have higher upsides.
