    I was just thinking, is Deolis Guerra still a part of the organization? After quite the scary incident this spring, I haven't heard anything of his recovery... Also-- I'm happy that Wimmers made another appearance today!

    Too bad we cant ask for Tom Windle to be thrown in, since you cant trade a player until one year after he is drafted... but it is nice to see he is off to a fine start to his career.

    He isn't the big prospect name, but James Breseford has had a fine year with the bat. I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do at the major league level as another stop-gap to infield glory in 2014-15. Throw him in at 2B if you want to try Dozier in at SS. Just a thought.

    I saw something pop up on Twitter a while back, "Little League 2 million players, High School 455,00 players, College 25,000 players, Drafted 1,500 players, MLB 750 It isn't easy. " Numbers aside, it does reverberate the big point brought up here. Nothing is guaranteed until players/"prospects" consistently perform on the big stage.

    Not only that but Moustakas was drafted 2nd overall and Hosmer was taken 3rd the very next year... That and the upper level success should have made them safer bets. But then again, they are called "prospects" for a reason.

    Previous articles on this site listed the average age of players at each level. So I'm curious, at 23, is Morales just taking advantage of younger opponents at FM? Hoping he can keep it up and finally make it to NB. Speaking of young FM players... This time last year, this guy named Oswaldo was playing for FM, found success early across two levels, and will make his debut a day or two from now. What a year....Arcia is still just 21.

    I just jumped over here from the Jonathan Gray thread, and was thinking about the Appel vs. Gray debate when it comes to picking at number 4 (assuming the Twins would even have the luxury to choose) I know that Boras is Appel's agent, but if a team decides that Appel can truly anchor a staff, then why not draft him, try your best with Boras (but likely end up paying the devil in the end) and inserting Appel into your rotation come September? It sounds like he has nothing left to prove on anywhere, so why not just pay the guy and let him get after it? Also-- look at this list... 2013 MLB Top Total Salaries - Starting Pitcher Ryan Dempster, Ted Lilly (19 and 20, respectively) earn just north of $13 million. Now I have no idea what Boras would demand, but based on the new draft salary-structure, I would think that we could get Appel cheaper than this. And I would also have to believe Appel would contribute more to a roster both now and in the future than Dempster and Lilly. Finally-- based on this money-talk, wouldn't it be worth it to get a stud in the draft if you truly think he is the one? I know drafting Appel would take up a huge portion of our available draft money, but in reality, how many contributing, major-league caliber players can a team count on finding in a single draft? Sorry if this has already been touched on here... I just jumped over from another thread

    I completely agree-- Look at Arcia last year. Hit well at High-A to start, then proved he belongs by hitting even better against tougher competition. Now look at where he is... What a year its been, starting this time last year in FM, now with Rochester and in a great position to earn a spot given enough time for preparation and progress.

    It is fun to see some prospects here with great arms, and some great stuff. Something I enjoy in watching a top-notch reliever is the mindset they impose on their own team, and the opponent when they enter the game. They know they have great stuff and they can get you out of a jam, and as an opposing hitter, you know they can bring it and put you away. Is there someone in this system who you think can/will suck the air out of an opponent when they enter the game?

    Taken from this article: "'I hate pitching in the cold,' Manaea said after the game about pitching in the cozy confines of the Metrodome. 'It's probably the worst thing. Coming here and having nice conditions, and actually sweating while pitching, was big for me." ..... Still a lot of snow on the ground.... April 1st is coming fast... Also-- the more I read, the more I like Windle. Not at 4, but who knows how long he will stick around come draft day.

    Chief-- Nope. All clear. Much appreciated. Goat-- I agree-- in the minors his OBP isnt terrible, but the strikeout totals... ouch... pretty much an annual minimum of 2:1 K/BB, topping 100 K's/year several times. I won't put the topic to bed just yet-- one more hypothetical question. Let's say for the sake of said scenario that Benson not only makes the team but is slated as the everyday leadoff hitter. I'm thinking he would be right-handed Jacque Jones 2.0 (with a better defense). Thoughts?

    Joe hit leadoff today, and now I have a number of questions. I admittedly haven't been paying close enough attention to see if he has in previous ST games, but regardless, does this make sense to anyone else? Do the Twins realistically expect Joe to hit leadoff? Is this just an attempt to get him extra ABs at the start of the game? In Benson, aren't we looking at more of a Torii Hunter (free swinger, bigger power threat, plus fielder) than a Denard Span? Are we just stuck in a world where speedy CF's who provide plus defense= leadoff hitter? Am I just anxious/confused/making-a-mountain-out-of-a-molehill because I'm looking at 6 inches of fresh powder (and more still falling), opening day is just weeks away, it's midterms week and I really just want baseball to start again? It just strikes me as odd-- like when the Tigers kept trotting Granderson out as their leadoff hitter when he didn't really possess the complete skill set required of the position.

    Seconded. I wouldn't have attempted it with Gomez for the same reason. Did he have the giddy-up to pull it off? Last summer I read somewhere around these parts that Mastroianni was relentless in his pursuit of base stealing knowledge during his minor league career. I wouldn't mind having him around for that reason, given his attitude and the influx of young, (hopefully) open/receptive young ballplayers around to pick up on the way he carries himself and strives to be better-- whether he starts or not.

    I have been wondering this for a while, realistically speaking... what can we expect from Chris Parmelee defensively? How will this bode for the overall team defense? Willingham on one side and a first baseman on the other side?

    Yup-- Wimmers had his on Aug 2 and Gibson on Nov 7. Hoping Wimmers can come back strong and healthy! It will be great to see him finally get some consistent, meaningful and effective innings in.

    Joe Benson has a solid comeback year makes the future CF debate really interesting. Whether or not it happens, I do hope last year doesn't torpedo his confidence/career-- We will see.

    Hoping he does well! Question-- Jonathan Mayo just put him at #18 on the Twins top 20 prospects, is that an accurate assessment of both the Twins system, and Pressly's ability? How does he stack up against some of the arms grabbed in the past couple of drafts?

    Pablo. Sandoval. Sano is 19, and sure he may not be done growing, but regardless of that, let him adapt to his growing body before limiting his positional value. Given that time frame (and his aforementioned athletic ability), I really think the defense will iron itself out over time. Also, just look at all of the offensive production/ability provided by the names above. Can Sano produce on this level? I don't see why not. It's been fun to hop online and see the numbers he has put up in his short career.

    Had it not been for a rash of injuries, Tommy Kramer really wasn't that bad, all things considered. Well played
