  1. Thinking back on http://twinsdaily.com/showthread.php?3819-Terry-Ryan-2nd-Offseason-Priority-Is-The-Bullpen... What are the odds the Twins toss their line in the water? The team took a flier on Zumaya last year, and I loved the idea of this deal at the time, and I was bummed it didn't work out. I understand this is a different situation with two different players, I'm just curious, throwing this out there. What is the market/expected contract value for Wilson? Sorry if this issue has already been addressed.
  2. The NHL is locked out, so Canada is gunning to take home the title in America's Pastime? Hmmm... So many things smell fishy here....
  3. In two seasons in the Minor leagues, Bryce Harper committed 12 errors, while learning a new position... Heck, Delmon committed only 20 errors in 5 minor league seasons. I understand that looking at the number of errors alone doesn't make for a strong argument in the day and age of fancy calculators, but Sano has committed 90 errors already over three seasons. That's pretty heavy. I also completely agree with the point that Sano was also in need some time to adapt to life in America/speaking a new language. One of his biggest concerns about playing in Wisconsin this past year was that it is such a radically cold climate compared to anything he has ever known!! That isn't a lifestyle/life decision I (or many people for that matter) will ever be able to appreciate or understand. I think that this point also has merit.
  4. If this year's SP class is relatively weak, without the projectable front end guy, it would be pretty fun to see the team draft a high end SS who will stick with the position. They have been there in the top ten in the past couple of drafts. Anyone have any idea if they will/could be there this year?
  5. Thank you, old nurse, I think that was perfectly put. Taken directly from Dr. Jazayerli's article: "I have long hesitated to wade into a discussion about the team’s medical staff, because as a physician myself I’m paranoid that someone might use my credentials inappropriately in this discussion. So let me be clear: in advocating for Swartz’s dismissal, I am not speaking as some sort of expert witness. I do not have access to any of the players’ medical records, and am not basing my opinion on some sort of medical expertise. I am arguing as a fan, and using the evidence that is available to all fans – the results on the field." After that, I felt a little uneasy as I continued reading the rest of that article, especially reading about Mike Aviles because of the point you raised above-- are the players being honest with the medical staff? This was a young man fresh off of a 4th place finish on the ROY ballot and 5 pretty darn respectable years in the Royal's farm system. Dr. J continues, "Mike Aviles, after hitting .325 as a rookie last year, hits just .194 with one homer in his first 32 games this season, before finally coming clean on May 14th and admitting that his forearm was bothering him." I don't know, the article just didn't sit well with me (for what it's worth). And I think that the blame on the Twins medical staff is, as mentioned above, a reactionary excuse to poor performance on the field and the production/payroll sitting on the shelf.
  6. I knew I would agree with the content of this article from simply by reading the title alone. I agree with both of your 'facts' listed above, and I know that other conversations on this site have cited other reasons why it is so hard for a medical staff to get it right 100% of the time. The past two years have been tough as a fan, with a significant amount of payroll and production sidelined for extended amounts of time. I agree that when businesses are dealing with employees as expensive as professional athletes, that they will employ the best in the medical profession to ensure their investments are taken care of. It has simply been hard to watch a large portion of our productivity and payroll sidelined, especially when these are still young men who were coming off productive years on successful teams-- and we as a fan base were looking forward to years of success with a healthy, productive ans successful core. Nonetheless, no two human bodies are alike, and not even the best of medical staff can be completely prepared to deal with the consequences of how demanding the game can be on even the fittest of athletes. The given track record of success, as mentioned above and then the contrast of the past two years has been tough. But how much of that is the ebb and flow of the game? How much of that is truly a reflection of the medical staff?
  7. Avian flu=walking in on one's parents> Jeff Gray
  8. Wow... Sorry Paul, I just saw that you already wrote exactly what I was trying to say.... My bad, team.
  9. I see the logic, but I have one problem with trading Willingham one year after signing him to a three-year deal.... What does that say to future free agents that the Twins are trying to sign? I realize that this is a business, and capitalizing on Hammer's value after a career year isn't completely illogical. However, these still are people we are dealing with, and people like stability. To state the obvious again-- the Twin's are in need of a clear-cut ace at the top of the rotation. It would be cool to see the Twins land a prospective ace in exchange for Willingham, but in reality I believe it is far more likely they will land this potential ace through the FA market... or sign Ramon Ortiz... but I digress.... Again, how would a cut-throat business move like this be seen in eyes of prized free agents, typically young(er) men who likely have young families and really wouldn't like to be unloaded after they do what they were signed to do?
  10. I don't think anyone has brought up St. Cloud yet. I don't know if this would even be plausible-- just throwing it out there... It's a good baseball community/surrounding area-- some very good high school baseball teams come out of that neck of the woods. St. Cloud has the MAC and supports the River Bats and the Granite City Greys. Would it end up splitting attendance, being less than 60 miles from the Twin Cities? Would the MAC be able to handle the load? Not sure.
  11. Current-- Great American Ballpark and I don't mind Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Classic names-- Three Rivers Stadium, Riverfront Stadium, Candlestick Park. Worst company to own naming rights? GNC or any pharmaceutical company....
  12. Sorry for a minor correction, but in game 2 Hicks hit his 18th and 19th doubles, not home runs. I got really excited when I read he went from 12 homers in game one to 19 in game two!
