  1. According to Hardball Talk, the Angels put Torii Hunter on the Restricted List to allow him to attend to a personal matter. Just horrifying news, and obviously 'innocent until proven guilty', but all three of Torii's sons are big-time baseball/football prospects, and this is true, all you can say is what a waste, a sad, sad story. One of many (too many) instances that helps put baseball into proper perspective and remind us that family is all that really matters.
  2. Rizzotti is a AAA DH, not a 1B. I'm surprised and disappointed in the decision on Bates. That's too bad. Good guy, good ball player, still young. Ramirez and Oliveros were easy choices to move up.
  3. Sorry, it's my daughter's birthday tomorrow, and tonight after school and such, we went to a petting zoo thing in town here... just got home... thank you for putting in the lineup.
  4. FORT MYERS, FL (May 14, 2012) — The Florida State League announced today that Fort Myers Miracle outfielder Lance Ray has been named Player of the Week for May 7-13, 2012. Ray notched eight hits in 19 at bats for a .421 batting average. The Las Vegas, Nevada native collected nine RBI’s and scored six runs. The 22-year old was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the eighth-round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft from the University of Kentucky. He leads the Miracle with four home runs and 24 RBI’s.
  5. We're funny like that... especially since we're all draft experts, right?
  6. Agree with MWW... Plouffe is the right decision, and at that point you go back to Valencia... If neither of those work, consider Florimon and Chang, or maybe even Deibinson Romero... I assume everyone saying Sano are kidding, right? Cuz, that would not be so good.
  7. Thought it would be fun to get some thoughts from people who have MLB Network on the Rochester Red Wings. They start at 11:00 central time. Here is the Red Wing Lineup versus Chien-Ming Wang: Ben Revere CF Pedro Florimon SS Clete Thomas RF Matt Carson LF Danny Valencia 3B Sean Burroughs 1B Ray Chang 2B Rene Tosoni DH JR Towles C SP: Cole DeVries I wish I had MLB Network!!! And didn't have to work!
  8. That is exactly what I would look for with him, and that is encouraging. Now I'd give him until the end of the month and see if that K-rate is still under 25%... if so, it may be time to promote!
  9. Phil Mackey of 1500espn wrote a nice article on Sano this morning. Read the article, but this line says a lot to me: "He'll have a chance," general manager Terry Ryan said Sunday. "I'm not sure he's quite ready, but when he's ready. ... I hope we do move him (up). I think all of us would like to see him move (up)."
  10. I'll take my chances until Diamond starts struggling. I thought that Butera deserved a ton of credit for working with Diamond yesterday. I know his history and I accept his offense. Diamond did not have his best stuff at all. He was giving up some ropes, but Butera went out and talked to him at the right times. I thought his pitch selection was tremendous, knowing at certain times Diamond was just not throwing the ball where he wanted. I'm not a big Butera fan, but I do think that sometimes, just sometimes, you have to give credit where credit is due, and yesterday, I thought Butera deserved a ton of credit for his work with Diamond.
  11. I loved the signing when I heard about it. He's still young enough to be a semi-prospect. He was a Top 5 prospect of the Tigers just a few years ago. he's only 26. He's been unreal with New Britain, as we would hope. he should move up to Rochester soon.
  12. I'd like to see what Florimon does in Rochester for a month (rather than just 4-5 days) to see what they really have on him. Reports are quite good...

  14. On Sunday (5/13), Sano hit a 3-run blast that led the Snappers to a 3-1 win over Clinton at Pohlman Field. On the season, he is now hitting .292/.408/.646 (1.054) with 9 doubles, 2 triples, 11 home runs and 35 RBI. According to Director of Media Relations, Chrissy Scaffidi, Sano leads the MWL in HR, RBI, Slugging Percentage (.646) and Total Bases (84). In 152 plate appearances, he has 22 walks and 40 strikeouts. He has cut down his K-rate the last week or two, and as it approaches 4.0 (PA/K), I'd feel more comfortable with him being promoted. Still hoping he gets promoted July 4th.
  15. At John Sickels' Minor League Ball site, Brian Dozier is the Prospect of the Day: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/5/14/3016597/prospect-of-the-day-brian-dozier-ss-minnesota-twins
  16. This... the Rangers are the team that 1.) need Span (CF and leadoff hitter), and 2.) have a lot of pitching to trade!
  17. I've seen that too. Makes reading it a little strange.
  18. Again, I agree that defense can be worked on as he moves up... but his strikeout rate will not improve by being pushed up too quickly, will it? How about his baseball instincts? Tom Kelly said he didn't knwo a lot about positioning, where to be, some basics. He's hitting, but there is so much more to this game.
  19. He's been quite impressive behind the plate. I think he calls a great game and today, he deserves a lot of credit for diamond's results. offensively, I'm not worried about him at all. When looking at the TWins top 20 issues, Drew Butera probably isn't in them.
  20. Video of Dozier's first career HR: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21397801&c_id=min&partnerId=aw-8760615209240415202-1803

  22. I have to admit, I'm perplexed, Roger... Revere bunted one so hard that even though it touched the 2B's glove, it still went into RF??

  24. A VERY HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY from TwinsCentric and the Twins Daily staff!! Scott Diamond did it again. In a repeat of his first big league start of the season, the left-hander threw seven shutout innings. That he lasted seven innings is most impressive since he was drilled in the left shoulder by a line drive in the second inning. He gave up some hits, and a lot of line drives, but seven shutout innings is always appreciated. Brian Dozier had two hits, including his first big league home run. The Twins had several opportunities to add on to a four-run lead, but did not capitalize. That proved large when Jared Burton gave up three runs in the 8th inning. Burton, who had not allowed a hit to his last 34 batters faced, gave up three straight hits before being replaced by Glen Perkins, who got out of the inning thanks to a great diving play by Joe Mauer. Matt Capps closed out the game with a big strikeout and the Twins won 4-3 to split the series with the Blue Jays. Here is a look at the Twins minor league scores and highlights from Sunday:[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] ROCHESTER 2, SYRACUSE 4 The Red Wings got a very good start from Liam Hendriks. The Aussie right-hander gave up just one run in six innings. He gave up three hits, walked two and struck out four. Deolis Guerra came in and gave up runs for the first time in a month. Guerra gave up three runs (2 earned) on two hits and three walks in two innings. Ben Revere and Clete Thomas were each 2-4. Matt Carson hit his tenth double. The Red Wings went 1-6 on this road trip. NEW BRITAIN 4, READING 6 The Rock Cats lost on Sunday but split a four-game series against the division-leading R-Phillies. Andrew Albers started the game with five shutout innings. He gave up two runs in the sixth inning and the first batter of the 7th inning got on before he was taken out. Albers gave up three runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings with four strikeouts. Caleb Thielbar came in and gave up three runs on five hits in 1.1 innings. Bobby Lanigan got the final five outs. Chris Herrmann hit his fourth home run of the season. Evan Bigley had a big, two-run single in the 7th inning. James Beresford was 1-3 with a walk. FT. MYERS MIRACLE No Game Scheduled on Sunday. Their first day off in the past 23 days. BELOIT 3, CLINTON 1 For the second straight game, the Snappers topped Clinton 3-1. The Snappers managed just four hits, but they were efficient. In the fourth inning, Miguel Sano came up with two runners on. He blasted a three-run homer to give the Snappers a 3-0 lead. It was his league-leading 11th home run of the year. Eddie Rosario added his 13th double. Matt Tomshaw was the Twins 42nd round pick in 2011 out of Jacksonville. The lefty has been terrific as a pro. On this day, he threw six scoreless innings. He gave up just three hits, walked one and struck out six. Michael Tonkin picked up his second save. He gave up one run on four hits over the final three innings. --- Players of the Day for Sunday, May 13, 2012 Hitter of the Day – Miguel Sano Pitcher of the Day – Matthew Tomshaw --- A Look Ahead – Monday, May 14, 2012 Schedule Rochester @ Syracuse – RHP Cole DeVries New Britain – No Game Scheduled Ft.
