  1. Disagree with the wording.....Deduno didnt pay off. Team was so bad that they kept having to go to minors & he got a huge opportunity that he didnt do enough with to even warrant a 40 man spot. He basically proved why he's not a major league pitcher. Ummm... OK, I guess... I guess if a minor league free agent signing makes 15 or so starts for the big league club, I would consider that a pretty strong minor league signing.
  2. He's a backup AAA catcher... he and Danny Lehmann will likely g to spring training to determine who gets to back up Chris Herrmann in Rochester. The other one can back up Josmil Pinto and Dan Rohlfing in AA.
  3. They won't (And shouldn't) want him to get more than about 120 innings next year. My assumption is he'll go to Extended Spring Training for 6 weeks or so to help do just that. The other option is to have him pitch out of the bullpen for the first half of the season and then start during the second half.
  4. izturis?bartolo colon, the pitcher in seattle? ok so thats 3 a no mind like me can come up with Alright... Not sure that I'd want Izturis at 3 years and $10 million. I know I wouldn't want Bartolo Colon for $3 million (with incentives up to $5 million). And, Iwakuma never became a free agent since he signed with the same team.
  5. So far, I believe that David Ross is the only big league free agent who has signed with a new team. I don't believe there have been any trades. Three months before spring training.
  6. The Twins confirmed that the Twins have signed catcher Eric Fryer to a minor league contract. Hey, they had great luck signing a former Pirates catcher last offseason, so now they're trying it again. Fryer got four at bats for the Pirates in 2012 after going 7-26 for the Bucs a year earlier. Last year in Indianapolis, he hit .204/.257/.247 in just 65 games (176 PA). He has seven doubles. He has a .770 career minor league OPS, but has not hit at all above AA. Can't be any worse than Rene Rivera, I guess!
  7. Yeah, they had 66 or so last year at spring training, so having Wood there won't affect the guys they want there. All it is in an accumulation of arms. There's zero risk in minor league deals. Last year, Burton and Fien paid off. So did Deduno. Guys like Perdomo, French, Vasquez filled their roles as terrific performers for the minor leagues.
  8. According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Twins have signed right-handed reliever Tim Wood to a minor league contract. According to Rochester Red Wings announcer Josh Whetzel (via Twitter), the 30-year-old Wood was the International League Relief Pitcher of the Year in 2012. He went 6-6 with 21 saves for Indianapolis. In 70 innings, he walked 23 and struck out 67. Wood pitched in 44 games for the Marlins in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, he pitched in 13 games for the Pirates. He spent the entire 2012 season in AAA.
  9. Anibal Sanchez is the guy I've had a free agent man-crush on for the entire season. As John pointed out, when we put this together, we thought 4 years, $44 million was a good number. I'd be very comfortable with that. Also, he is one of the young free agents, so I would have no problem going to 5 years with him. I'd throw him a 5 year, $55-60 million offer. Dude is terrific. I'd MUCH rather have him than Greinke over the next five years.

  11. There have been many changes around the Minnesota Twins. When games start up again next season, you will also notice a change on the Twins telecasts in 2013. After four years as a sideline reporter for Fox Sports North, Robby Incmikoski is leaving FSN. Of course, unlike some of the changes with the Twins, this decision is fully his own. He has accepted a similar job with Root Sports in Pittsburgh. In a phone conversation last night, Incmikoski said that he will remain with FSN through the end of the month, keeping busy working Timberwolves games. (photo FoxSportsNorth.com)[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] According to Incmikoski, “I'm headed to do the Pirates in the same position. I will be a pregame reporter for the Penguins as well, but no travel.” The move makes sense for him in many ways. It allows him to be much closer to his family in Philadelphia. It is also a good opportunity for him professionally. In his time at FSN, Incmikoski worked Twins, Timberwolves and Wild games. There were many times he would be working a game a night for two to three weeks straight, traveling from city to city. It’s certainly understandable that he would enjoy a job with much less travel during the hockey season! Incmikoski added, “I love Fox Sports North and am extremely thankful for the chance they gave me.” After a year of Telly Hughes, Twins fans should be very thankful for the years that the hard-working Incmikoski provided insight into our homes via Fox Sports North. Best Wishes, Robby!

  13. I really like all four of these guys. What's encouraging is all four of these guys throw 92ish, with Rosario often hitting 94/95. It might be fun to compare them to that 2009 (?) GCL Twins team that had Salcedo, Hermsen, Tonkin and Weller. Or that 2004 GCL Twins team that had Waldrop, Swarzak, Rainville.
  14. Cozart does nothing for me. Gregorius is intriguing. I wouldn't deal Span for either of them. I would deal Revere for Gregorius. And yes, anything that could bring Tony Cingrani would be good with me!
  15. I don't think you realize what you just did there. You negated yourself in exactly the way that those who pay attention have already understood: "Knoblauch moved more quickly than the "modern era" Twins. Kinda like Joe Mauer." ...wait, what? Not to be a dick, but this whole premise is stupid because you fail to acknowledge the simple and obvious fact that every single player is different. And that's all there is to it. This whole premise is a very inelligent, well-thought-out philosphy of teaching baseball to elite prospects at the higher levels faster than the current trend. Good example with Chuck, mlhouse. Maybe Sano isnt as good as Knoblauch was at the same age? Sano certainly wasnt as good as Harper at the same age. But he is an elite prospect, hence the #1 ratings by most lists. Just a reminder... Knoblauch was a 1st round pick from a big-time college program. The Twins started him at Hi-A, and he played great and moved up to AA quickly... Levi Michael was a 1st round pick from a big-time college program. The Twins started him at Hi-A... don't you think that if he would have played well, the Twins would have moved him up??
  16. AJ's career year wins the AL Silver Slugger despite it still not being as good as Mauers... oh well.
  17. Best part is the waiter-dude with the cool Daunte Culpepper jersey!
  18. Twins outfielder Josh Willingham joined Mike Trout and Josh Hamilton as the three American League outfielders to win Silver Slugger Awards for 2012. Very well deserved, and congratulations to him! (have to assume Mauer will win at catcher in the AL as well)
  19. Both are tremendous people. Phil is definitely a baseball guy. He's done a great job at the PP, writing for the Jazz for a long time during their great years, Gophers now for the STrib, Twins minor league stuff for Baseball America. He's tremendous. And Joe will do well in whatever he does. Very talented.
  20. I'd much rather hear the Twins rumored to be going after these guys than the old guys like Ryan Dempster that we've also been hearing. I can't imagine any of these would be available for cheap.
  21. Alright, here's mine... 1.) Johan Santana, 2.) Jim Kaat, 3.) Bert Blyleven, 4.) Joe Nathan, 5.) Jim Perry, 6.) Brad Radke, 7.) Frank Viola, 8.) Camilo Pascual, 9.) Dave Goltz, 10.) Rick Aguilera.
  22. Sorry, I just can't include a guy who was the 3rd best pitcher on that 1991 team. Yup, he had the great Game 7... no question about that.
