  1. Did you see the Christie exchange?
  2. OK well regardless of Turmp's supporters or his policies or net worth or anything else, when it comes to just speaking off-script (which I call "sharpness"), Trump does it 1000x better than anyone else in the field. His entire campaign is unscripted. Rubio looks like a fool when he breaks script. So does Cruz.
  3. Even before the Christy exchange it was obvious that Rubio was an automaton. He just isn't very sharp, and inspires zero confidence as a leader. Honestly, if there is a foreign policy crisis, is that the guy we want going eyeball to eyeball with Vlad Putin or whoever? LOL. Ditto Cruz, Bush, Kasich, Paul, etc. Everyone except Trump.
  4. Maybe one ray of hope is the fact that Carlos Lee did not pick up an outfield glove until he broke into the majors either.
  5. The Twins strategy of drafting relievers and making starting pitcher projects out of them was a lot more interesting when they did it in the 3rd round+. But with the #6 overall pick, how much inefficiency can there be? I would have preferred the pitcher of the year (Fulmer) or the Golden Spikes winner (Benintendi), among others. Who knows, maybe it was a coincidence that the player they liked the most when their # was up was a reliever. Anyways I can't rip em too much because Jay was a top 10 talent according to all the major draft publications IIRC. Hopefully the transition goes as planned.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if two 3rd parties poll >7-8% - a religious conservative to the right of Trump and a green/socialist to the left of Clinton.
  7. I'm not sure how the Dems could break up the R's if they wanted to but I believe you're right, that we are stuck with a two party system, for better or worse. It boils down to winner take all voting in elections and literally every Congressional action.
  8. In a weird way they are tapping into the same anger though. Trump will siphon off a good chunk of Sanders' supporters I think.
  9. I kinda wonder if this line of questioning started with something like "I noticed Sano wasn't taking any grounders at 3B today. Care to comment on that?" Anyone in Ft Myers see Sano do any infield work at all?
  10. Fine. Would you concede its at least a "remote" possibility he has to be optioned in his 2nd year? I don't believe that would be unheard of for a top prospect, would it?
  11. When will they Mike Trout - Byron Buxton comps end? Yes they both sailed through Cedar Rapids. The similarities end there. Trout is on a pace to be one of the greatest players of all time. Buxton, is not. For mere mortals, which Buxton probably is, skipping AAA can be a challenge. Often it requires one or three option years to be exercised. If that happens this season, the OF defense will suffer. edit: I realize Buxton hasn't completely skipped it but 59 PAs doesn't inspire much confidence that he's mastered it either.
  12. Rosario regressing is definitely a possibility. That would probably be bad for OF defense too. The cause for my concern about Buxton is his MLB numbers, not his MiLB ones. Also the Hicks fiasco after trading Revere when Hicks hadn't yet mastered AAA.
  13. I would be shocked if Kim's bat sticks against MLB pitching and Park's doesn't. Kim's KBO numbers aren't nearly as impressive. The Park signing was a good growth move IMO. It presents a crunch but they have options on everyone except Arcia (including Park). They can rebalance later if/when one of them works out. If not, they're out a small amount of money on a smart gamble.
  14. Not in my nightmare scenario. Buxton plays everyday, either in Minn or Roc. My concern is that he hits in the .500s again, forcing the Twins to option him like they did with Hicks. I guess i shouldn't forget Repko or Benson though. Maybe one of them would be recalled in that case, if they're still around.
  15. Here is my nightmare scenario: Sano is athletic "for his size," but he's probably not more athletic than Hanley Ramirez, Ed Escobar, Nunez, Bartlett, etc. Sano is a worse defender than any of these guys. Forcing, Buxton into everyday duty to make up for the RF weakness. Buxton struggles to hit the Florimon line and has to be optioned, forcing DanSan/Rosario/Kepler into everyday CF duty. Thereby weakening OF defense further.
  16. If Escobar is the regular SS wouldn't he stay put as well? Someone tweeted earlier in the offseason that DanSan would be an OF-er. Did not rule out all infield duty but you might be able to read that between the lines if you wanted to. In either case, I think its clear next in line for 3B is now Nunez. I just do not understand what is to be gained by this or the Santana-is-an-OFer statements. Why handcuff yourself.
  17. Yeah. When the decision is between two equivalent batters, put the OBP guy first. Plouffe before Rosario, for example. Back to the question of protection for a second. The "protection" theory really reduces to "have good hitters in your lineup." Of course adding Prince Fielder to bat behind Miguel Cabrera helped the Tigers to score a bunch of runs. Prince Fielder is a great hitter. But, Miguel Cabrera still finished with the 2nd most IBBs in both 2012 and 2013. Teams just brought in a LHP with a base open. Easy. So as for protecting Sano, yes the Twins should "protect" him like they should get the best hitters they can find and stack them on the top of the order. But there are going to be games with a base open where teams are going to put him on, esp. if the guy behind him bats LH (as per the L-R-L-R theory). No amount of planning is going to stop that. What we can plan for, is the situation where the game is on the line, and our best hitter is standing in the batters box, and not in the on deck circle.
  18. 1. Every spot you drop Sano in the lineup costs 18 PAs over the course of a season. That probably doesn't amount to more than 1/10 of a win but it is a cost. 2. Joe can move the 6 hitter over as easily as the leadoff guy 3. Do we want Joe getting the 2nd most PAs on the team? 4. Joe has two kids, but he wears no. 7.
  19. That is just baseball though. The game is way too dynamic to plan for those situations before a pitch has even been thrown. The only thing you can take to the bank is that the guys at the top of the order will bat more than the guys at the bottom.
  20. "Profiles" are dumb. Who's the best hitter? Give that guy the most AB's. And so on down the line.
  21. Believe me, we didn't break up on my account.
  22. I got a reminder of how big the base is when I went on a blind date with a girl recently. Lakeville girl, middle class, nice, hot, etc. Stark raving religious nutter. They are a depressingly huge chunk of the population outside of urban areas.
  23. The "base" as described in this thread are mostly protestant, so the pope doesn't really apply. Even among Catholics, they're minds are made up. The pope could flat out endorse the Democratic candidate and it wouldn't make a lick of difference for most Catholics I know.
  24. When I was last at the Hard Times 8-10 years ago the coffee was french pressed sludge and breakfasts were run of the mill. I drive by it all the time but never stop in anymore. Has it changed? Also one last brunch spot that should probably get mentioned if it hasn't already is Al's Breakfast in Dinkytown.
