  1. Probably Bellinger and Alvarez.
  2. I agree. It was a bad example, but I was reading about him all day. Many mentions of him "not getting cheated" and his "short, stout build" (paraphrased) had me picturing Uribe at the plate. Uribe was valuable defensively, and had a very quick hard swing. The comparison sucked. But a AA prospect with Uribe as a comp (not a ceiling) would probably be a top 100 guy, IMO.
  3. He is fun to read about, but limited. From Truebluela.com: "Calhoun’s power is currently pull heavy; all of his 2015 professional home runs went to right field, almost exclusively right down the foul line" from todaysknuckelball.com: "Compounding his issues as a potential third baseman or outfielder is his limited arm strength compared to most major league-level players." His (unlikely) ceiling reads Juan Uribe without the versatility. Juan Uribe was a nice player for a good deal of time. Calhoun's strengths are equalled or surpassed by his flaws
  4. Can anyone think of any recent prospects who have exceeded limited upside? I mean Dozier obviously did, so there is probably a ton of examples, but I can't think of any. Any pitchers who were thought of as #5 types who turned out to be more #2 or #1 types? Im usually pretty good about that kind of thing, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.
  5. Yeah. I somehow completely forgot about Travis. Nice player.
  6. I was literally just looking this up. Mostly to see what the Blue Jays were expecting.
  7. C'mon Yankees. Cant you just move on from Castro at 2B and enter this sweepstakes?
  8. I get the feeling that talks will break down soon and restart in a few weeks. Hopefully the Dodgers don't plug that 2B hole in the meantime. If they do, then the Twins should move to sign another uninspiring SP/swingman and plan on Dozier for the season. They can't bank on a contender needing to upgrade at second in July. I would like to see Dozier traded for DeLeon + Alvarez/Stewart/Buehler/etc + lesser known prospect, but there is nothing concrete that says that offer is on the table. I believe Dave has a source and has truthfully reported from said source, but we fans have to take all speculation with a grain of salt. The national reporters are not 100% accurate in their reports and they have skin in the game, so to speak. Dave isn't pimping a blog or a site, Heyman and the like have a vested financial interest in being right and still occasionally miss Sources aren't always right, reports/reporters aren't always right, and even when deals are almost 100% complete things sometimes fall through. I have been thoroughly enjoying all of the speculation with the exception of the MLBTR article comments. Those are terrible.
  9. This! The Twins are nearing the latter stage of their rebuild. They have some pieces in place. Alvarez is a couple few years off and that's why he's a secondary piece. Santana followed by a bunch of #4s and #5s would be significantly better than what the team put out last year. If Gibson, Hughes, Berrios, and hypothetically, DeLeon and Stewart pitch like true MLB #4s, this team would be significantly improved. Improved enough to offset the loss of Dozier and then some.
  10. Taking a very cynical approach to these rumors, you can have fun analyzing potential spin. Story 'broke' with rumors of DeLeon and Alvarez plus. The Dodgers interest was widely known and nobody came out to deny the DeLeon part. Then the Dodgers let slip that they're 'willing to include' DeLeon, thus lessening the expected return. Then the Twins let slip that they have many more suitors, thus attempting to get the Dodgers to increase their offer. Now, we see DeLeon and Stewart plus. Im not sure how much MLB front offices care about the court of public opinion in these cases. At this point it seems that the idea of a winner/loser of the trade is too murky to be definitive. DeLeon, Stewart and sweetener is an OK haul that won't upset most of us here too much but will probably delight most Dodger fans. DeLeon, Alvarez and sweetener will delight most of us here and probably won't send most Dodger fans into a spiral. I, personally, wouldn't walk away from JDL, Stewart and an org. top 20. But I also wouldn't be in a hurry to complete that trade. The Dodgers know that the Twins are motivated to deal, and so does the rest of the league. Including Alvarez gets the deal done immediately, IMO. Damned shame that the Nats and Cards all but denied serious interest. Damned shame the Yankees aren't in. Damned shame the Braves and A's aren't ready for that splash. Its been fun to follow this trade here, on Dodger forums, on MLBTR and on Twitter. I will almost be sad if/when the trade is complete.
  11. Bautista isn't a good fit for the roster, but I could see rooting pretty hard for him if he ended up with the Twins. I picture him to be a player who will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after the inevitable 1yr contract. Im also probably biased having seen him play at Target Field a few times.
  12. How about Sheffield?
  13. Buehler? Buehler? Is Buehler on the table?
  14. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/12/brian-dozier-trade-rumors-dodgers-jose-deleon-twins.html
  15. Why are other teams not named. Nobody can think of a good on-paper fit outside of LAD
  16. Have you heard anything specific about Alvarez recently?
  17. Bellinger would be great, but I don't see him as the deal breaker, and I don't think the Dodgers want to include him. DeLeon is talked about as the centerpiece; 1 or 1a, however you want to see it. It seems that his inclusion isn't really debated much. Alvarez seems like he could be the deal breaker. I think that most of us on this board would jump at DeLeon and Alvarez, and if it is pieces 3 and 4 holding the deal up, that's frustrating. However, if Alvarez is off the table, as some have suggested, would DeLeon and two of Lux, Sheffield, Buehler or Calhoun be Palatable? I have no more info (actually, probably much less) than any of you, but it seems like Bellinger is not someone the Dodgers want to part with, or someone the Twins would insist upon. The argument for Alvarez not being included (the heavy investment that is looking good early) makes a lot of sense and I wouldn't want my team including a prospect like that for obvious reasons. All indications are Stewart will be in line to pitch a good portion if the season with the big-league club; i.e. in their immediate plans.
  18. From Alberta and Interstate to Hayden island (5 miles or so) was 2.5 hours. Winter storms in Portland are terrible. Not sure why and how this happens.
  19. http://uproxx.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/king-of-the-hill-spatula.gif?w=650
  20. No more talk of Urias. Less serious talk of Bellinger. Very little talk of packaging spare parts for a better return. I feel like I have watched the thread mature into adulthood. Actual entertainment. Well done, chaps.
  21. I just wish the Twins would add-in Santiago, Hughes, D Santana, Grossman, Light, and Duensing in order to persuade the Dodgers to part with Urias, Bellringer, Deleon and Alvarez. Maybe Kershaw if the medicals look good. /s
