  1. Whenever this issue is broached people try to argue "versatility" is a good thing or that the team needs to "find him a position". His position is 3B and if he's good at it and hits like that he doesn't need one damn bit of versatility.
  2. Man, there must be a tree somewhere that grows 24 year old catchers who hit, field, and never get hurt. Anyone know where it is or care to share the location with the Twins?
  3. Boy are people committed to the belief that Sano can't play there. I just don't get it. And I get this even less.
  4. This sounds a lot like "We're going to make Arcia a LF" In other words, a completely ridiculous idea that they likely won't stick with.
  5. Not true. All you have to be is healthy and viewed as the "best" option. (In other words - no competition)
  6. The low risk guys you're talking also have a high likelihood of being no better than what we're trying to upgrade from already.
  7. We're talking about as a mascot right? Obviously the answer is "yes".
  8. The Twins have long equated "pitch innings" with "good". It's one of the biggest problems with the organization's ability to find top-end pitching talent. I'll go out and pitch 200 innings for 4 million and I can assure you it will be anything but "good".
  9. I feel like if I voted for Donald Duck this year I'd be making a more rational vote than pretty much anything on the actual ballot. We reasonable people have to stand up to this somehow, I just don't know how that happens. My first theory is to hire some scientists to secretly unleash a virus that sterilizes members of the Tea Party and anyone registered with a party. At least then we can save future generations.
  10. So your argument is that in order to get voted in the Republican candidates are selling out principles just to appease those most likely to go to a ballot box? I really dislike liberalism, and as big a panderer as Sanders is, the Tea Party is the absolute dregs of pandering. And now this moron got elected. How anyone can be happy with that is beyond me.
  11. John Oliver's attacks know no ideology. Some are against government waste and stupidity and others point out the hypocrisy of people like this schmuck. He seriously bailed out his failed company with government money. But he says the right things to a mass of idiots and they vote him in.
  12. You simply aren't going to find a risk-less FA. By this argument we should just never sign a FA. I don't support that.
  13. Yes, they should be embarrassed. So should anyone that voted for this guy or support those like him.
  14. Not really, the Dems stink at getting turnout in non-Presidential elections. I mean, it's not much to hang your hat on that you managed to get a two-faced moron elected because the other side is lazy and apathetic.
  15. Sounds exactly like our CF plan the last few years. In other words, I heartily dis-endorse it.
  16. Electing Matt Bevin is confirmation that Kentucky is full of stupid people. Allow John Oliver to explain. (Go to the 11:15 mark)
  17. Those gentleman are not "functional". They are "prayers". If you want to check in on Hedges or Plawecki - sure. But those guys will cost a ransom of near ready young players. Wieters only costs cash and a lottery ticket of a pick. If you're so worried about the cash, charge an extra dollar for every crummy Budweiser you buy at one of the 17,000 bars at Target Field. Call it Waterholes for Wieters. It's just money. We have plenty, why waste time dumpster diving?
  18. His combination of offense and defense is considerably better than anyone else. If your hang-up about catchers is durability...we may want to petition major league baseball for a robot catcher. That's about the only way that concern is going to be avoided.
  19. Who are we trading for? Outside of Norris and (30 year old) Lucroy...who are we acquiring for the "long term" I think people have a completely misguided notion on the availability of functional catchers in baseball.
  20. C'mon Nick, there is a case to be made against Wieters but this isn't it. In every healthy season Wieters has had since his professional start he's been about a .750 OPS player. Soto has done that once and hasn't been a full-time catcher in 5 years. Navarro has only done it twice and only been a full-time catcher twice in his 12 year career. These guys aren't comparable. That's while you'll pay pennies on the dollar compared to Wieters.
  21. AJ isn't even in the same universe as Wieters defensively. We're talking about a high end defensive catcher with a solid bat and all we have to give up is some money and a mid round draft pick? The evidence is abundant that later first round draft picks are more than a bit unreliable for future value. Signing Wieters means we get an immediate upgrade and we give up nothing that will be helping this team in the near future. (As it would to acquire Lucroy) I would be thrilled if we signed him. Thrilled.
  22. I LOVE Kepler...but this would be the basis of a trade I'd do in a heartbeat.
  23. Do you think that other piece is another slasher at SF/SG? (I'd like to see Rubio and Lavine playing more together for that reason) Prince just doesn't seem to bring much to the table at this point.
  24. I think that sounds good and I understand the underlying point (change is hard!), but it is also demonstrably false. Hell, just on the issue of gay marriage we've had a major shift in the last 15 years. Which means that unless I missed a plague somewhere I think most of the same population is still around but the numbers have shifted radically. Pot legalization would be another similar case. Worse yet, if one were to accept this premise we might want to really re-think our system. We should just go with some Platonic elite that will tell us the right social dynamics and then wait for a generation to die off so that they'll be accepted. Any movements meant to engender social change are basically meaningless noise.
  25. I just got to this, it's an excellent article. Personally I agree with that last paragraph tremendously. Yes, I don't like Daniel Murphy's opinion. But hating him or attacking him accomplishes absolutely nothing. In fact, it might set what I really want (universal acceptance) backwards. We already have too many places in our society in which debates and discussion are stifled for any number of asinine reasons (looking at you Universities....), we don't need to add to that. We'll win over the faith crowd eventually, but it won't be with vitriol.
