  1. Patsy Donovan was fired as a manager after the 38-113 1904 season
  2. "Strong" might not be the word to describe a front office that has Buddy Boshers & Co on the 40-man roster, but, yes, that single signing might be a good start (that might have been negated by the recent FO signings of players of the just not good enough years... We shall see. But "strong"? Nah. Go get Chris Sale and we can talk about "strong"....
  3. I get that, but please, stop it here. Define success and define respect. Torii Hunter has made some darn racist arguments against black Hispanics. And he refused to apologize. And now that burden is on the Twins Front Office... Secondly. I'd love to know how many collective world series titles these guys won for the Twins? Zero, zip, nada. No success. No respect. (plus a racist who might blow up another day depending on questioning, or might call a reporter a "prick" but now on the Twins' payroll...)
  4. Thus, is the issue. Go back and read what you wrote in this article. The new hires were not "adjusting to any new thinking" but were channeling the "Twins Way" of "winning" of their time with the Twins, which is not new thinking (and they really did not win much...)
  5. Sure. Thought is the operative word here (other than the fact that LNP was punched, before Mornaeu would beat the * out of Hunter) Fact: Who was the MVP between those two? Fact: Who left the Twins for more $, after they made him a reasonable offer?
  6. So, you are arguing that there-is-no-i-in-team-but-there-are-two-in-Torii is part of the solution for this?
  7. "culture of winning"? Give me a break... If they wanted a culture of winning, they should have brought MacPhail back and people from the MacPhail era. I still cannot forget Cuddyer's dugout interview after game 163 at the White Sox, when all smiles he said something to the fact that "it was ok, there is always next year", while he, himself, decided not to slide hard from third and attempting to knock the ball out of Pierzynski's glove and score the tying run in that game. We had enough of that "winning", how about some real one now? I also hear a lot about the effect that they will have on "young players". Some how the fact that at least half of the Twins' young stars are Latinos is missed in this whole "bringing back the band", business. Sano, Berrios, Rosario, Vargas, etc need someone who can see as a role model. They need a Latino player who made it to fulfill that role, something that the Twins' organization is severely lacking. Tony O is a legend. They were not born 20 years after he retired, he cannot fulfill that role. Maybe it is time to bring back Johan. Also, hiring someone who publicly called them imposters, adds a bit of insult to the injury... I have no problem with Hawkins, he is a stand up guy, but the other two, I can live without.
  8. Hate to say this before they trade him, but the one number that is unsustainable and begs for regression is his HR/FB (and you better look at it in monthly splits, because Dozier's first half in 2016 was pretty lukewarm)
  9. Speed is one thing, but Palka has a better arm. He pitched also and use to throw in the low 90s. They are both lefty throwers, so that is a wash. Speed does not always translate to better defense, correct routes etc. Palka is still learning the position and will be fine at RF. Kepler at some point said that he preferred LF, not sure why...
  10. Lewin Diaz, Amaurys Minier, and Zander Wiel would beg to differ. Vargas is not a prospect, but is pretty good too, and more proven than someone who exhibits power only in California, Texas, and Pacific Coast Leagues...
  11. This is pretty wrong, in many levels, the least of it is that based on that logic, one could credit the "semi-success" of 2015 for a potential pennant in 2018. Nope. A pennant in a particular year is the result of a very successful year in that particular year. Matter of fact, "unsuccessful" (in W-L) previous rebuilding seasons have more to do with winning a pennant, that half-mashed .500 mediocre seasons with mediocre veterans blocking rebuilds (ask the 1991 Twins, if you don't believe me.) Got to sell high. That's why both Dozier and Santana have to go.
  12. Romero certainly does. So does Berrios, but he needs to get over last season. Jay may be there as well sooner rather than later. The problem is that there is nobody who looks like a legit number 1 in a winning team. So I'd rather package one of those listed (or the ones not listed, like Gonsalves and Stewart) along with a (let's say Dozier) to get closer to a number one...
  13. FTFY. They still can; deadline to tender a contract is midnight December 2nd. But I suspect that they still will be shopping him around (like the rest of the arbitration-eligibles) to see whether they can get anything back, before they decide to tender or not.
  14. If anything, it will help them, since Dozier's contract is under valued. They will need to shed some $ after next season, but they really do not have much commitment after 2018, and in 2018, other than Kershaw, Gonzales, Kasmir, & McCarthy are the issues. Can they flip one of them after next season? Maybe. 2017 payroll does not matter to them really. Another tactic they can use is to take on bad contracts that expire after 2017. That might be kind of an opportunity for the Twins to flip someone like Santiago for someone like Ryu who is due a bit less than $8M in each of 2017 and 2018, so the Dodgers can save $8M in 2018 and the Twins can end up getting a better pitcher than Santiago for the next 2 seasons. Same with Puig who is owed $8.2 and $9.2 M the next 2 seasons. Can the Twins trade someone like Park (due $9M the next 3 seasons, $8M savings for the Dodgers) for him? Maybe, if they add someone. Does it make sense for the Twins to do it? I dunno...
  15. Looking closer to the numbers, Castro against RHPs had a .757 OPS last season. The last time a Twins' catcher (who was not named Mauer) hit that well was in 2003. His career OPS against RHPs is .753 (and against LHPs .536) Poster boy of platooning and playing Garver or Murphy against LHPs. He can hit ok, just not against LHPs I think that it is a good move that would help the Twins young pitchers
  16. Unfortunately this happened a year too late. He should have been traded during last off-season, get something in return, and avoid the Sano to RF embarrassment. Happened to Pierzynski and Mientkiewicz when better younger players were coming along. Nothing new here... It has been noted in several places that Plouffe was a "team leader" and that the Twins will miss him in the locker room. Just looking at the records of those Twins' teams (when Hunter was not around) and that would be another good reason to cutting the cord... Time for the "leaders" of the losing teams of this decade to start going...
  17. He is technically wrong: He did not get fired. Was reassigned to another part of the company and quit Good luck to him.

  19. If that were the intention, then the Twins should have re-hired the person who taught Santana (and Pedro and the Big Unit) their change ups, as their pitching coach... He is still available.
  20. Grossman, D. Santana, Boshers, O'Rourke being there puzzles me. I'd rather see Baxendale, Goodrum, and Wheeler (plus a spot) in those positions. Things will change by the Rule 5, but, I'd rather lose those 4, that the 3 I mentioned.
  21. Opportunity cost. With Santana there, they will be given fewer opportunities to stick in the rotation
  22. The Twins do not need a 38 year old starting pitcher with shoulder issues, Johan or no Johan. I'd rather see what Mejia, Jay, and Gonsalves can do than what the ghost of Johan's past cannot do...
