  1. I do not think that it is coincidental that Perkins' highest career K/9 (on both ends of his career so far) came when he is a reliever. His career K/9 as a reliever is 8.1 and as a strarter 4.3. Another thing that has to be mentioned is that his 2011 BABIP (probably thanks to the Twins' defense) was .333, so his actual pitching effectiveness in 2011 is deflated. I really expect great things from Perkins in the years to come.
  2. This was originally posted at The Tenth Inning Stretch and reposted here --- You can read the basic premise in detail behind this dashboard here. The summary is that I have created a visual dashboard that uses Bill James' Game Score to measure the performance of each pitcher who is vying for a spot on the Twins' 25-man roster (you can see their profiles here) and track their performance through spring training. Performances are classified as "above average" (green color), "average (yellow), "below average" (red) with the Game Score numbers indicated for each performance. I also average all performances to day, list that average and color the pitcher's name accordingly. At the end, there is a ranking of all pitchers in the list based on their average game score this spring training. Game Scores of 49-51 are "average", everything higher than 51 "above average", and everything below 49 "below average". Here is what the dashboard looks, including yesterday's game vs Tampa Bay: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7200/6965432235_8170ebd9c4_o.jpg Here is a ranking of the combatants based on average game score: Terry Doyle 56 Matt Maloney 54.5 Jared Burton 53.5 Liam Hendriks 53.5 Tyler Robertson 53 Aaron Thompson 53 Brendan Wise 53 Casey Fien 52.5 Jeff Manship 52.5 Carlos Gutierrez 52 Kyle Waldrop 52 P.J. Walters 52 Esmerling Vasquez 51.5 --- Daryl Thompson 50 Luis Perdomo 49.5 --- Alex Burnett 48.5 Scott Diamond 47.5 Lester Oliveros 46 Phil Dumatrait 45 Jeff Gray 41 Jason Bulger 25 Deolis Guerra 21 Samuel Deduno DNP I will be updating this daily and posting updates here close to daily. 4. The Mets practically combined a couple of low level league teams by getting rid of their high level Rookie team (the equivalent of Elizabethton for the Twins) and combining it with their short season A league team in Brooklyn. The Twins cannot be without a AAA team.
  5. That would not be realistic for several reasons: - The Saints and the Twins are in direct competition for ticket sales - The Saints are in an independent league and would need to join a AAA league, which would mean that a AAA league (either Pacific or International) would need to expand or lose a team I just don't see it happening.
  6. One of the things that I am happy to see this Spring is that Span has really picked it up. Hopefully he continuous so and brings it into the season. Casilla, too, but he did not play today. Frankie was impecable.
  7. I see it selling it at the ballpark when SWB plays there. But they should be selling it at the SWB web site and not the Red Wings' web site. And I am not sure how much of a cut SWB will be getting anyways...
  8. Last time I checked they had a contract with the Twins (and not the Yankees) and they are an affiliate and not an independent minor league club. As as an affiliate they should be respecting the hand that butter's their bread... If they were an independent league club, it would had been a different story.
  9. It is well known that the management, fans, media of Rochester, NY do not really care about the Twins and their behavior has ranged from apathetic to totally hostile the past few years. For me this broke the camel's back. They are selling Yankees' merchandise not only at the fan shop at the stadium (I kinda get that, they will be playing some games there) but online from the Twins' affiliate official site. I don't know how you, or the Twins' management feel, but this really p*ssed me off big time.
  10. I always liked Bates, hope he makes the team. Game over 1-0 Rays
  11. Great diving stop by Bates to save a couple of runs. Mid 9, rays up 1-0
  12. Some vintage 2011 D by Hughes and Nishoka in the 9th. Tampa Bay scores a run
  13. Nope. The players who replaced them Towles and Bates had a single each
  14. Totally agree about Provus. If only Dazzle shuts up...
  15. The incentives have not been published yet, but it has been said that they are bases on Games Finished and not saves. So if he pitches to one batter to finish a 15-1 game, that counts as GF as well.
  16. 2 ground outs next. Liriano 3IP 1H 5K. Not bad
  17. FranKKKKKie!!! Strikes out the first batter in the 3rd
  18. Bottom of 1st, Span singled, Plouffe walked; Mauer, Morneau and Willingham fail to bring them in
  19. FranKKKKie!!!! 2Ks one ground out on top of the second.
  20. FranKKie! 2Ks a single a CS top of 1st.
  21. I do have problems with the Twins' philosophy is general, but to tell the honest true, twice they drafted the highest power rated prospect in the draft (Parmelee, Travis Harrison) and after Bill Smith took over, they have been drafting power arms as well... Just they are not many power arms and bats in the prospect pool before the draft and those guys usually go on the top 10-15 picks... Even is Sano is 25, he is still the best power prospect in the minors. Age does not make his bat less powerful.
  22. The annual figures of the contract and the option are out: 2012: $1.55 million 2013: $2.5 million 2014: $3.75 million 2015: $3.75 million 2016 (option) : $4.5 million with $300K buyout no word for incentives yet. Compared to Capps' this is a crazy good contract for the Twins
  23. His slider is pretty darn spiffy good
