  4. You are an expat, like me , so that might not count too much. But I really loved that comment because one of my sayings is that kids who were born the last time the Twins won it all they are now old enought to vote (that was a bit ago) or buy beer. But methinks that the locals are a tad more complacent... and winning the division and three and out in the postseason is all spiffy good. (ps. watch for the falling guano under that bridge in Austin)
  5. Thanks for sharing! Have a great season!
  6. And I need to preface that question. Back in the day when I used to live there (the golden years of the Twins - 87-92) the sports fandom in Minny as far as the four major sports were concerned went like this: - Everyone loved the Vikings and that was it. Period. And Burnsie was cool - Everyone loved the Twins (and they were the talk of the town - after Prince- because those titles) - When the Wolves came it was more like a novelty (Pooh Richardson, Sidney Rice, Eric Musselman years). - As far as the Northstars were concerned, most people at that point were more concerned about getting on their broomball shoes and having a decent game (until Dino Ciccarelli allegedly exposed himself and that was made into oofda big time news) These days my take is that: - Everyone still cares about the Vikings (but does not hate the Packers or the Bears as much as before) - The Twins are kinda fun thing to watch especially with that nice park; and if they win the division is fine and good- unless they are not winning - The Wolves are so good because they are winning - unless they are not winning - The Wild are so good because they are winning - unless they are not winning And I am talking about the average Minny person out there who considers themselves a "sports fan". Am I too much off?
  7. Here is another interesting thing... I looked at PAs as of today's game and Nishioka got the most by far so far in non B games. I suspect that the most PAs a player gets it is because they want to look at him more. Here is a list of Twins' players this Spring with 11 or more PAs this far and their OPS. Nishioka 18 PA .667 OPS Dinkelman 14 PA .607 OPS Burroughs 16 PA .468 OPS Span 12 PA 1.083 OPS Casilla 12 PA .995 OPS Doumit 12 PA .944 OPS Parmelee 11 PA 1.017 OPS Revere 11 PA .788 OPS Valencia 11 PA .636 OPS Pearce 11 PA .282 OPS Draw your own conclusions
  8. Ray Chang played in 420 MiLB games, 212 of them (highest) was at SS. Second highest was at 3B with 128 games. Last season in Rochester (not in NB, Dozier was there) in the 40 games he played, 38 were at SS. But I have this gut feeling that if it comes to getting down to that level to bring a SS up, it would be Florimon and not Chang. But that is a really remote possibility in my mind...
  9. Here are some cumulative performances of some former Twins to date: Position Players: Mike Cuddyer (Rockies): .375/.400/.625 3H, 13B, 4RBI, 8AB JJ Hardy (Orioles): .286/.444/.286 2H, 2BB, 7AB Jason Kubel (Diamondbacks): .111/.200/.111 1H, 1BB, 9AB Nick Punto (Red Sox): .000/.200/.000 1BB, 4 AB Matt Tolbert (Cubs): .500/.500/.500 3H, 1RBI, 1 SB, 6AB Steven Tolleson (Orioles): .333/.429/.333 2H, 1BB, 6 AB Delmon Young (Tigers): .444/.445/1.222 4H, 2HR, 12B, 5RBI, 1BB, 9AB David Winfree (Diamondbacks): .286/.375/.714 1HR, 3RBI, 1BB, 4K, 7AB Pitchers: Craig Breslow (Diamondbacks): 2.1IP, 1H, 2K, 0ER, 0BB Pat Neshek (Orioles): 2 IP, 1K, 2K, 0ER, 0BB Kevin Slowey (Indians): 2IP, 4H, 0ER, 0K, 0BB CAUTION: please remember the small sample size before you jump into conclusions
  10. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that he had options left so he was not placed on waivers when sent to Rochester
  11. Tosoni grounds out. Game over Twins lose 2-3
  12. Florimon walks. 3-2. Bases loaded 2 outs. Tosoni up
  13. Dirty little secret: Burroughs has been sucking on the field and with the bat worse that Nishioka this Spring so far. Good story and everything but he got to win a spot
  14. Carson walks bases loaded 2 outs Florimon up
  15. Mastroianni bunts, Holliman out at third. Gotta love smallball down 2. One out men on 1st and 2nd
  16. Ramirez singles to left. Men on 1st and 2nd nobody out.
  17. Guerra gets 2 ground outs and a strikeout. Mid 9th. Twins down 3-1
  18. If Hughes makes the team they have 3 infielders who can play 2B (Casilla, Carroll and Hughes) and 2 who can play SS (Carroll and Casilla.) So when Carroll rests, Hughes can play second and Casilla SS. When Casilla rests, Hughes replaces him at 2B.
  19. Strikeout. Inning over. 3-1 Cardinals mid 8th
  20. Chris Herrmann just got drilled on the throwing hand by a foul ball. Stays in the game
  21. Double, runner scores. 3-1 Cardinals
  22. Stolen base for the Cardinals in a close call at second
  23. Tyler Robertson: Ground out, single, double play ball, Nishoka almost gets drilled, double play broken, force out at second
