  1. Sure. The Viola trade and the AJP trade.
  2. Josh pitched tonight at Princeton (West Virginia) against the Rays. He came in the fourth inning in relief of Angel Mata with the Twins leading 6-1 and the Rays having runners on first and second with 2 outs. He got Brandon Martin to ground into a force out to end the inning. In the 5 inning, got Julian Morillo to fly out to the left. Reid Redmand and Bill Argo walked. Darryl George struck out and Oscard Hernandez grounded out P to 1B to end the inning. In the 6th, he got John Alexanger to ground out to second and struck out Ariel Soriano and James Harris for a quick 1-2-3 inning. Total for the evening: 2.1 hittless IP with 2 BB and 3 K. ERA dropped to 0.82 for the season and now Josh has 12 K in 11 IP for the season.
  3. Goodrum will stick, Michael likely as well, but Goodrum is great with the glove at SS. Minier "projects as a 3B" but I can see him at a corner OF position as well
  4. I'd shoot for Zach Lee from them and have the Twins throw a prospect or 2 if they need to balance it
  5. Span's team friendly deal is actually part of the asset here. Last time I checked, Revere has a friendlier deal, is a better fielder, is a better runner, is 4 years younger and pretty much a wash as far as OBP goes this season (and Revere has not yet entered his prime, while Span has been there.). No brainer, but they have to get an MLB-ready SP, at least, in return.
  6. 2013 will be Baker's age 31 season. 2014 will be his age 32 season. He is not a spring chicken. Not sure that there is a long run for him. He will be past his prime when he gets healthy. And nobody knows when he will be healthy. Any sort of a deal other than $1-2M base (plus the buyout of his option) with incentives for 2013 plus some sort of team-friendly based 2014 if he reaches those incentives would be nuts. As far as 2013 goes, looks like the ones under contract (and some of them will be MiLB FAs who would need to be re-signed) with possibilities for the rotation would be (alphabetical order) : Blackburn Deduno De Vries Diamond Duensing French Gibson Hendriks Hirschfeld Manship Swarzak Walters pick 5 might be what the Twins do.
  7. Kind of hard to tell. The real test is AA (for hitters) because the pitchers to make it there throw much more and better off-speed and breaking stuff. A not so much so. A+ little more, but AA is the key. And the big differentiator is not how well you are doing per se, but how well you are doing in comparison to the competition. I think that it would be very hard to have a player in AA with an OPS of 900 or more that will not make it to the big leagues sooner or later. Similar with pitchers. If you got a WHIP around 1 or less in AA, you should be able to make it to the majors. The other leagues are pretty much developmental. AAA is the garage...
  8. Good deal. Now if they find a way to get rid of Butera...
  9. Then you blame it on Gardenhire. Do you?
  10. All has to do with where you set the bar. If you accept mediocrity and are very happy with a few division wins here and there and one and outs in the postseason, then I do understand why thinking that Ryan/Gardenhire/etc are successful. On the other hand if you set the bar higher, you do not think that they are successful. Look at what Boston did after a disappointing (for them) season to the GM and manager that brought World Series titles to town. All a matter of perspective. Been long since 1991...
  11. I am a Twins fan and I want my team to win. So I am critical of people who are with the Twins (like Ryan and Gardenhire for example) who are not helping the team win. I think the Twins can do better. I hate what those people are doing to my team. Hope that explains it. What you are saying is equivalent to if you do not like your President or your congressperson you are not an American...
  12. I think that the Twins by this point should know that Blackburn is not part of the future at least in the rotation. Putting them in the pen they might see whether he might be part of the future there, like Perkins. They do not know the same about DeVries of Deduno. They should find out whether they can help the rotation in 2013. This season is done. They gotta do some tryouts
  13. He is not stupid. But he in so many words acknowledged that a. he did a crappy job and b. he is not up to par with modern analysis to do his job. Time to go.
  14. Gems from Rob Neyer's twitter covering Ryans' speech. Actual quotes: "I don't have the education. I don't have the intellect. I don't have the computer skills." Ryan says Twins have struggled in Dominican Republic, and that it's his fault "I haven't fixed a thing. We're exactly where we were last year." This indicates to me that it is about time for the interim to resign and the Twins to actually get a GM who has the intellect, education and skills, to clear house on the organization from the top to the bottom and have this team compete in the 21st century. About freaking time...
  15. What he said ^^^^^^ At least it will not be Cuddyer
  16. The problem I have with this train of thought is that there is an engrained assumption that Blackburn was a "good" pitcher. And this is based on IP, which is not a performance metric, but a manager's choice metric. In 2009, Blackburn had a worse than average 1.366 WHIP and a worse than average 4.3 K/9. He was worse than the average pitcher in his best season. Because the Twins unwisely offered him a contract extension based on "whatever they saw" or "their gut", instead of the numbers, does not make him "good", or even average. So "fixing him" would equate to bringing up the equivalent of Cole DeVries or Sam Deduno to pitch. The latter is an easier fix.
  17. Nope. Last World series was in 1991. That is 21 seasons ago. After McPhail left, this team started to fall apart.
  18. Seth, the day to day thing is one thing. Personnel decisions like handing a starting job to Blackburn out of ST last season, while everything pointed out that they shouldn't, is another. That another is why Gardy needs to either get the 21st century or retire. (and not only him, the Twins' FO, starting with the 130 year old Minor League Player development director should be in line too...)
  19. Josh pitched tonight at Elizabethton against the Pulaski Mariners He came in the fifth inning in relief of Taylor Rogers. He got Reginald Lawson (undrafted FA signed by Mariners in 2011) to fly out to center, struck out Jabari Henry (Mariners' 18th round pick in 2012) and allowed a single to center to Bryan Brito (Foreign -Dominican- FA signed by Mariners in 2010). He got the next batter, Brock Hebert(Mariners' 14th round pick in 2012), to fly out to right. He came back for the sixth inning and struck out James Zamarripa (Mariners' 6th round pick in 2011,) got Jordy Lara (Foreign -Dominican- FA signed by Mariners in 2009) to ground out to SS and Tyler Marlette (Mariners' 5th round pick in 2011) to ground out to 3B. Came in again for the seventh and struck out Dario Pizzano (Mariners' 15th round pick in 2012) and got Martin Peguero (Foreign -Dominican- FA signed by Mariners in 2010) to ground out to SS. The next batter, Reginald Lawson, doubled on a line drive to RF. Jabari Henry grounded out 1B to P to end the inning. Total 3 IP, 2 H, O R, 3 K. Total for the season: 8.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K and 1.04 ERA.
  20. Same reason they should DFA Nishioka off the 40-man roster
  21. Let him play and let Casilla play and have Carroll as the back up. This team is not going anywhere... They need to give the younger players some time to see whether they are part of the problem or the solution in intermediate/short term.
  22. Waldrop? Consider it an audition for next season... Space on the 25 man roster is not that valuable either. They got to see some time what these guys can do before they have to make the hard decisions
  23. Unfortunately the numbers were there 3-4 years ago that showed that Blackburn was as effective a starter as Perkins was. Here is a crunching at some point in 2009. Clearly, Blackburn has not been cutting it since then (and even before that.) That is 3 seasons ago. Nothing new. Just Gardy and Andy cannot see it, because they do not think that way. And I agree, there is no reason to deamean any player personally. They are who they are. Most of us wish to have half Blackburn's talent
  24. Like they are going any place this year? Putting him in the pen is a tryout to see whether he is part of the solution for next season or not. This season is gone.
