  1. I don't want to see Pavano pitch for the Twins ever again. It will be pointless. Walters is out of options and will probably be with the big club but 6 starters means only 6 in the pen, which means a very taxed pen. September is a different story with the expanded rosters. They can do whatever they want then.
  2. $200K bonus on Guyer IIRC and there was another Aussie they signed for good money.
  3. I suspect that Liriano's record is within the standard deviation of being equal to Deduno's (and probably the same goes for Duensing and Hendriks) And runs allowed do not tell the story really. That dropped ball by Nishioka the other day was called a double and went on the pitcher's record. Nuts. As far as Diamond goes, one of the major changes this season from last is his drastic decrease in BB/9. I think he leads the league or is close to it in that stat. His K/9 is just 4.9, which is even below Brad Radke's career average mark. If he gets his K/9 up to 6-7 (where De Vries' is, btw) it would be great. At least he is one of the hopeful signs of the 2012 season.
  4. Have you ever watched Florimon or Escobar play? Or the second Nishi (whomever that might be?) Just asking out of curiosity
  5. Here is this thing about new locations from St. Paul to Duluth to St. Cloud to Sioux City and everything in between... It is not like throw a dart in a place and a team can chose an affiliate there and move their operations.... There are established leagues. The leagues have contracts with certain teams. And they can have so many teams (like the majors). So unless they expand (yeah good luck) or an existing team decides to move to another location, the present locations are where it is. Of course, the Twins could buy the Las Vegas franchise, build a stadium in Rochester, MN or where ever and decide to move them there, but that is what it will take. And someone should be willing to sell. Matter of fact, this is what happened the first time the Twins' franchise got a minor league affiliate (minus the move) but that was about 80 years ago Same with every level of play.
  6. The Twins' next manager would be either Scotty or Gene Glynn with the other serving as a bench coach... Done deal
  7. Some teams want to have their best 25 people in the majors. Even if that means sitting them on the bench. This does not work well for their "development" but works well for winning at the major league level. Different priorities. The Twins do not subscribe to that philosophy for sure. If Trout and/or Harper were in the Twins organization they would be in Beloit or maybe Fort Myers if they were lucky...
  8. Nishioka is the least of the Twins' problems right now. Paying too much attention to him is exactly what this team wants the press and the fans to do, so they are not talking about the general suckage of the product on the field second season in a row. Playing Nishioka every day might earn TR the title of the Executive of the Millennium
  9. No love for Kenys? I know he just played in 9 games in July, but he did more in those 9 games than more players in the organization did in 30
  10. I just don't get those kind of threads... Trade 24 year olds Parmelee and Revere and keep 30 some year old Morneau and Span (ok he is younger) in a 99 and 90+ loss team 2 years in a row? Nuts
  11. Seth, it's not the language. It is the culture. And if you don't believe me ask any Twins' dominican prospect who made it about that.
  12. a few things you have to consider in this. Really. Pineda lived a whole 5 months of his life in the US so far. I am not sure that he knows how to speak English yet. Throwing him to Beloit WI or (even worse) Elizabethton, TN might be a scarring experience... Really. You gotta think about that stuff too
  13. BTW as far as this goes: no Starting Pitching all the way [h=1][/h]
  14. ok. Because there is a lot of discussion about where the ball was, where Nishioka was, and all that stuff, I decided that a picture is worth more than a thousand words and put one here. Enjoy
  15. Not sure where you are located, but my local park (AAA) is a real gem. (And the site I am linking has reviews of many ball parks so might be a good resource for you) Have fun!
  16. Let me put it this way: - Believe it or not, Nishioka is not the reason the Twins lost 99 last season and are in pace of losing 90+ this season - This team has bigger fish to fry that dealing with whether or not Nishioka can be the 25th man on the 2013 roster - And this is a team that carried the likes of Matt Tolbert and Brian Butcher on division winning rosters Bigger fish to fry. Really. And, yes, Nishioka is who he is. He cannot help it. If you want to complain about someone complain about the manager who is playing him or the general manager who got him to the majors. And here is the kicker: Nishioka's play did not cost the Twins a single game. Even if he caught everything thrown his way today they would still have lost... Bigger.Fish.To.Fry
  17. If you look at some of the people who managed at the different levels of the Twins organization and played for the Twins, almost all of them are contenders ... Phil Roof, Tom Nieto, Sal Butera etc. Esp. Phil Roof (who had an OPS around 500-600 and stuck for 6-7 seasons)
  18. In his 0-13 season, Terry Felton pitched better than Blackburn has the last 2 seasons
  19. Actually Cole De Vries' fastball is faster than Walters' and his secondary stuff esp. the slider is better than Walters'. And sad but true: De Vries leads the current Twins' starters in k/9.
  20. I think the Pirates are a great story. Sorry, I cannot root for a team who was the major competition of the Twins when the Twins were really good. I strongly feel that the A's of LaRussa & Co cheated the Twins of titles and I just cannot find the heart to root for them. As long as the Twins are not in it, I will be rooting for National League all the way and teams outside the Central for reaching the World Series.
  21. Casilla is a streaky hitter who needs to play most of the time to get hot with the bat. If the manager of the millennium sits him 90% of the time in favor of a 38 year old or Nishi, he will never hit.
  22. I hope he gets well enough for the Twins to trade him for something and if they cannot trade him, I hope the Twins do what the Indians did with Lowe and let the kids pitch as 2013 auditions.
  23. Most major (and minor) leaguers rehab at Fort Myers (either with the Miracle or the GCL Twins) for good reason. Frankly, that is what I heard earlier this season, that the Twins were looking at the SAL for A, the SL for AA and the South IL for AAA so they build a nucleus close to their Minor League Headquarters (that would be Fort Myers for the next 30 years) but the AA part did not happen. Interesting to see what happens next, but chances are that the Twins will have 2 new affiliates next season. (And nobody can officially say anything before 9/1 or close to that)
  24. this is what the definition is: NUMBER ONE STARTER: **Two plus pitches **Average third pitch **Plus/plus command **Plus makeup plus plus fastball, plus slider. check no third pitch - that is where that fails. He did try to throw something slow ones in a while but 96-98% of the time it was one of those two. plus plus command. - no check. effectively wild plus makeup - whatever. BTW, this is a fun read about scouts and Randy Johnson.
  25. Those are fun There is a soda (pop) machine right by the bathrooms and the water in the water fountain (same area) is alright. I always get a water bottle with me when there and refill it from that. As far as figuring out who is who: if you venture behind the dugout cages, they post the line ups right by the opening of the cages to the field (you probably know what I mean) on a white board and update them as kids go in and out. As far as parking goes, the trees (even the little ones by those fields) are your friends. Enjoy!
