  1. He also had a handful of drops from his receivers and some poor route-running that he put the incompletion into a spot where no one had a chance to intercept it. Sometimes an incompletion isn't just a 0-1 on the stat line.
  2. They mentioned that Schwarber was at least 4 weeks away from being cleared to play the field.
  3. This is the way the team needed to play all season. Leidner didn't blow anyone away, but he was efficient and made the passes needed, the run game did what it should, and the defense played like they could. Yes, it was Illinois, but last week was Rutgers, and I'd say Rutgers is quite a bit worse than the Illinois team that they stomped on the road today.
  4. If I'm a RH hitter for the Cubs, I'm pulling everything i can.
  5. Surprised it's more, no. I was surprised that almost 1/4 of the broadcast time was actually commercials. That really puts a dent in anyone complaining about the game being a problem and not being viable to attract fans. No, it's not baseball that pushes away fans - it's the long stretches of commercial breaks. Television has primarily 30-second ads with a few 60-second spots scattered in. There were multiple breaks that were 3 full minutes long during the World Series game! That is flat ridiculous.
  6. So here's a fun study I was able to do this week... I had a game DVR'd this year earlier, and it ended up being the game that Ender Inciarte made the best catch of the year. I then was going to be out on Wednesday night, so I DVR'd that game. I set up both recordings to go for a full hour beyond the TV listing because, well, that's just what to expect. I then took time to review both last night without commercials. The game earlier in the season was a 4-3 game in 9 innings that used 10 pitchers total between the teams. The WS game was a 5-1 game with 10 pitchers utilized. Regular season game 3:17 WS Game 2 4:04 The big difference that I totaled up due to curiousity: Regular season commercial total during broadcast 0:23 (rounded up) WS Game 2 0:48 (rounded down) ...over twice as much length in commercial time spent during the world series broadcast, almost an entire hour of broadcast time! This does also include some natural time that there would be "dead time" due to the teams changing sides, but a game with 3:16 of on-field action took 4:04 to broadcast, and a game with 2:44 of game action took 3:17 to broadcast. That's certainly not going to attract in more fans...
  7. This was one of my favorite threads here, and I think it went sadly unnoticed in the sports community this week when Arian Foster retired much in the way that he has played the game and lived his life, in his own way. I am very pleased that he spoke out the way he did to prompt conversations like this among those who were willing to step up to the plate with an open mind and have those conversations. I'm glad he used the platform he had to emphasize that an atheist isn't a devil-worshiper or drugged-up criminalistic anarchist any more than a Christian/Muslim/Jew/whatever is an uneducated redneck. Thank you to Arian Foster, and best wishes in retirement!
  8. Did anyone catch Obama on Jimmy Kimmel? Damn, I'm going to miss that man speaking to media, regardless of the outcome of the election.
  9. But he missed, badly, with the pitch. Schwarber has talked about how his vision allows him to often take in where the catcher sets up as he views the pitcher. I wonder if that honestly didn't play into that, because if he misses on the outside edge of the plate instead of the middle, that's a home run. The catcher was set up outside the plate, so he missed that spot by a long shot.
  10. Yes, they did better, though they did swing at plenty. It will be interesting to see how it goes forward.
  11. So, yes, he got out of the jams, but I don't know how many times Buck had to state that Miller was dominating. He was not at all dominating last night. He had no clue where his pitches were going. If the Cubs simply waited on pitches, they'd have been golden. The pitch that Schwarber struck out on missed the catcher's target significantly (catcher was on the outside of the plate, Miller missed down the middle of the plate). He's also done for game 2. You have to win one game before you win two games, but I was questioning the wisdom in how Miller was used last night with obviously lesser stuff than he's shown and pitching significantly more than he had all season.
  12. Kind of. She has been sort of bumped out for a few weeks now, but they seem to bring her back in. Penguin rising to prominence in a legitimate way in Gotham could be handled so well.
  13. Two games in the history of the playoffs have faced the minimum amount of hitters - Don Larsen's perfect game and the Cubs' gem tonight.
  14. I like how they've developed certain characters, but the story arc in season 2 went down hill in a hurry and season 3 is down right bad.
  15. Fate... Goats... Blessing of Bartman...
  16. 7 month old foster baby makes TV choices still my own, though he is enthralled by sports, and especially baseball, so that works.
  17. Last postseason's breakout player was Daniel Murphy. I think it has to be Javy Baez this postseason.
  18. Cubs getting to Clayton Kershaw in the first inning. Hard not to feel like there might be outside factors in play.
  19. In general, I'm not looking for exceptional when I'm watching television. I'm watching for entertainment, so if you can get me to invest in characters or make me laugh, I'll probably return. Shows like Big Bang Theory, SVU, Criminal Minds, and NCIS have had my investment in character(s) in the show, so I still watch them. Of course, I still have Arrow and Flash that I record each week. One show not mentioned on here (I don't think) was Gotham, and I am disappointed in this season after two solid seasons of the show. There's enough to keep me coming back, but I'll not continue going forward if the show doesn't go somewhere better over this season.
  20. I did end up joining. I've got some opportunities that could end up making it more of a fun thing to be a part of rather than a thing I am allowed to be active in, but we'll see!
  21. ^^^^^^^ That is exactly what you get when you scout prospect stat lines and rankings and not the players...oy. Edit: Not Tobi - he posted as this was posting!
  22. I forgot that Kay signed this year. He was a last hour signee this year. So, to edit my point, early picks have not signed. Is that better?
  23. They will? You must know something about the competitive balance lottery that no one else does at this point because those picks have not been determined.
  24. Is there a way to make that Pay-Per-View? It'd pay off a significant portion of the national debt.
