  1. Based on what I've seen, I have Alvarez ahead of Lopez ahead of De Leon ahead of Giolito in my overall ranks.
  2. This. People very much underrate how badly the Nats missed Span last year in the lineup and in center. Turner is still a work in progress on his center field defense, but he did provide offense in center, which Revere didn't. He just didn't provide a leadoff hitter.
  3. Okay, not arguing the WAR point. I'm talking in pure stuff, in scouting them. Also, which WAR do you use...because that makes a big difference in the Quintana argument, interestingly enough. Once again, not down playing the guy whatsoever, but still not paying Dansby Swanson for him.
  4. Absolutely he's underrated, but I'd consider him among the 30-40 best starters in the game right now. I'd consider Sale among the 5-10. While that's not a drastic difference, it's still bigger than it sounded like the difference in trade demands were.
  5. From a Braves source, if Sale's value was 80-grade on the 20-to-80 scouting scale, the ask on Quintana was 79, when the Braves were willing to go 70. The Braves wanted a lefty and have the guys to make a big deal happen, but they've filled that with Garcia now.
  6. I never got to publish it, but my Nationals top 10 had Giolito 3rd behind Lopez (and Robles). I think they've come out strong to say they want to hold onto Robles and Soto, which were two guys that the Pirates were targeting hard in McCutchen talks and that the ChiSox were insisting on in Sale talks.
  7. #1 prospect in the game, another guy who will fairly easily be top 50 (and is widely regarded as able to start after showing well doing just that this season), one of the biggest upside teenagers this side of Victor Robles, and a power arm who finally showed a second pitch this year. The Red Sox's #1, #4, and #9 on my top ten list, and Diaz was in strong consideration for the list as well. The White Sox pulled the Shelby Miller of last year. Go into the evening with a deal "close" with one team, then the baseball world wakes up the next day to a bigger deal with another team who was willing to overpay to ensure they got the guy.
  8. Three revised top 10s in one day, and now the Royals and Cubs are trying to make it five!
  9. Sounds like Ramos would have signed on the line for the first team to give him 2/$20M even with incentives, but found no takers. That just surprises me. Yes, the offense was a first time thing to be at that level of production, but he's always been a solid defender with pop before this.
  10. Yes, slide shows. I don't prefer it, but it's the nature of the beast, and you work within the system that you're given. I heard good things about how he handled first base, and he does have a solid arm, but basically nowhere he could use that arm as he won't have the athleticism to play anywhere but first defensively.
  11. Yeah, he's impressive to watch. He just needs a full season of it, but his 2016 was impressive.
  12. I wasn't even considering him until I talked with guys who'd seen him and couldn't stop raving about him. He's a definite boom or bust sort of guy.
  13. As some of you know, I write for two places, one a Braves site, Tomahawk Take, the other a general baseball site, Call To The Pen. I'm currently doing top 10 reports for every organization, which is a major undertaking in and of itself, but the Twins one was fun because I could use stuff from here along with stuff I got from guys around the league. Here's the list. Comments, questions, etc. are welcome!
  14. Hey, the new president doesn't have to know the difference! Seriously, growing up on a farm, it was keenly obvious an animal's natural environment. Watching the Adam Ruins Everything on dog breeding was a shot to the gut to my wife as well, who has always insisted I'm barbaric for thinking my dog would enjoy sleeping outside in a South Dakota winter. Nevermind that I had a dog on the farm my whole life with the option to sleep anywhere on the farm, included heated places, and each dog chose outdoors of some variety. We didn't have our own barn cats, but our closest neighbor (1/4 mile away) did, and that was a similar thing with them as well. They loved being outdoors, and when given the option would only use the barn for their sleep space, nothing else during the day.
  15. He had TOS surgery this summer, and there is no real time line for return on that, so there's no guarantee on what you'd get in 2017. He was projected at $9M in arbitration, which is likely the sticking point. I'm sure if you went to him with a 2+1 deal in the $15-20M guaranteed range, he'd listen pretty strong.
  16. Sorry for the truth talk...
  17. Surprising non-tenders yesterday in Tyson Ross and Wellington Castillo. Also interesting to see how some of the deals just before the deadline may have been different if those two were known to be available, which it sounds like neither was shopped at all in the last week or two.
  18. I'm really anti-cat. I'll tolerate someone else's cat, but I've never once had a desire to own a cat. I also would prefer to never have an indoor-only pet, so that's probably a big part of it. Right now, I have two indoor only dogs, and I'd go back and change that any day of the week for a dog that was primarily outdoors. Animals are not intended to be forced indoors, in my opinion. That's also why I've never understood those who talk about how difficult a dog is to take care of. A dog outside has tremendous ability to occupy itself and keep itself out of trouble with minimal boundaries set up for it.
  19. I could explain it, but it may be even better left not explained...
  20. Hell, the Rays have done it twice...
  21. So a few CBA highlights: -World Series home field is no longer determined by All Star Game -Teams no longer lose 1st rounder in QO system. They lose a 3rd rounder if under luxury tax a 2nd and 5th if over. -Luxury tax goes up. will gradually raise to 210 million over next 5. -Smokeless tobacco banned for all new major leaugers -a cap of 6 million per year on international spending -Disabled list goes from 15 days to 10 -4 more off days during season
  22. Seriously, I've used the team thing many times before. Of course, I used historical team rosters, not present day, so it's much more difficult to figure out. One fun one to use was the last Lou Holtz season in Minnesota. Lohmiller25 and Foggie14 aren't easily guessed. Even better if you use a sport with plenty of "foreign" names that wouldn't be common.
  23. Roster, plus number, from a favorite sports team. Rotate the team every quarter for security purposes.
  24. The story of David and Bathsheba isn't exactly a shining moment of religiosity, that's for certain!
  25. To a draft alone, no, but overhauling how the money is filtered into those areas and making it much more organized could help tremendously. Asian baseball has a very solid set up to follow for Latin America, but the issues are primarily financial for Latin America, and that's what ends up driving the current system, and also driving the corruption.
