  1. Or taking DeRozen and keeping Lawson. That was the assumption where they would go with the second pick.
  2. Gerald Green and Sebastian Telfair were rather boom or bust types, but Jefferson was a risk more because of his defense, and pairing him with Love was simply too much defensive ineptitude on one court.
  3. Dave may enjoy this: What do Matt Garza and Mark DeRosa have in common?
  4. Josh Gordon now out for the year, and possibly half of 2015. Might want to drop him, even from a dynasty roster.
  5. That said, unless I was able to get two of the top 4 receivers, I'd likely not go WR/WR, but I do agree that once you're past the first 5-7 running backs, there are a ton of questions and time shares.
  6. In comparison to other offers out there, I do think the deal with Cleveland was the best move. Nothing else rumored would have been close in talent. I'm not remembering what it was, but at the time of his move, I remember there were a couple offers for Garnett that were more established players and less picks versus the high-risk, high-reward players plus more draft picks that they got from Boston, and that's where some were bummed on the Garnett trade because it wasn't surprising that Kahn would blow draft picks.
  7. Well, yeah, but there are few owners who sound smart when they talk about the teams they own.
  8. That's more what I meant. When you acquire that many picks, you should hit a home run on some of them.
  9. But at least it seems like Flip can "control" him some. Kahn was basically a puppet, and as we saw with McHale, if Taylor likes the person, no amount of poor performance will dissuade him from that loyalty. Loyalty can be a good thing, as long as it betters your team, not inhibits it.
  10. This year the TWolves were a much better product to watch than the Lakers, but your point is obviously well-taken. I hope that Flip and co. continue to do better on the player acquisition side of things. Their value for their draft picks with Kahn was incredibly low, and that put the franchise in this horrid position. The current roster is loaded with talent, but we'll have to see how it comes together. It could be fun to watch Timberwolves basketball again, though.
  11. Thank you, David Kahn. Already the return for Love far outpaces Garnett's return, and Garnett is an easy top-50 player of my lifetime, while Love might make the top 100...maybe.
  12. Yet God forbid someone post anything about another sport in the Twins section. It seems from an outsider point of view a post intended to provoke, and such posts have generally been frowned upon with Twins Daily. If anyone comes and does "drive by posting" intended to just irk people, that poster tends to go down the respect meter in the community a ton. At least you came back and attempted to explain your irrational dislike, but it's still confusing why you'd start a thread with a drive-by post. I will never understand the enjoyment of the DH rule, but you won't see me starting threads on it with a simple "the DH sucks" and walk away. The discussion gets framed when someone intentionally intends to provoke response. There aren't typically going to be well-thought-out posts following that sort of beginning to a thread, hence why I tried to steer the conversation into something more interesting and with some sort of depth rather than having it simply turn into a flame war. That said, it's pretty clear what the intent was, and I'll bow out of further responses to troll-like behavior on this thread now that I've said my piece.
  13. You should never go RB/RB your first two selections in modern FFB regardless of how many QBs your league allows. That said, I would perhaps see 3 going in the first 10-15 picks, another 3 going in the next 10 picks, and then likely a huge run on them around the 40ish pick in the draft. 3 QBs is a weird setup for a league. I'd hope that is brought up for a league vote before you play next year because that means at least 4 teams are rostering backup quarterbacks with only 32 starters even out there in the NFL. I've played in every sort of league out there in 20+ years of fantasy football, but 3 QBs is a new one, and frankly, an unsustainable one to say the least.
  14. Frankly, when I hear someone make a comment like this, especially if they tell me how much more they prefer the college game, I know that this person has actually not watched NBA basketball recently. The NBA product right now is as good as it has been since Magic/Bird/Isaiah days. The league has very good teams all over, and the style of basketball is drastically better than the early 2000s. The local squad hasn't been winning in bunches, but anyone who would say that even the Timberwolves haven't been an exciting product to watch recently is simply not paying attention. Now if you're not a basketball fan, that's another issue completely, but if we're going anywhere to discuss basketball, this is incredibly better than the cesspools of Rube Chat or STrib comment sections for TWolves fans. I'm not a fan of soccer or hockey in spite of many attempts to get into both, but I have no desire to go put down either sport, especially in a way that singles out the highest talent and competition of the sport.
  15. Your opinion is duly noted. Thanks for sharing.
  16. Pekovic does well passing for a post guy, so he could work well with guys who cut well to the hoop. Of the vets, Martin actually fits with this group best in playing style, but having Barea around with Rubio's injury history would be very wise. Bennett runs extremely well for a 4, so I could see some instances where they pull Pekovic for him, go small, and run the opposition to exhaustion, but the rest of Bennet's skillset is very raw. I like the gambles on the roster that could either blow up huge or burn out fast, letting the decision be pretty easy where they go from here with these guys.
  17. For seemingly being over the barrel by Love's trade demands, Flip should get a huge amount of credit for the return in this deal. He did give up Shved as well, so the Timberwolves will face competition this season for the whitest team in the NBA.
  18. There are few things better than hoisting Floyd of Rosedale. I love to win over Wisconsin, but I enjoy beating Iowa, no gentlemanly sportsmanship involved. Unless you are a Hawkeye (or Iowa native), it is rare to cheer for the Hawkeyes because of the behavior of their fans. It'd be an interesting rating, but I'd rate Iowa football fans as the worst traveling football fans in the conference and behind only Indiana basketball fans as the worst traveling fans of a Big Ten sports team. That said, while there are some ranked that way, and I'm sure one will emerge, I just don't see an elite team in the Big Ten this year. I don't think the Gophers match up well with teams like Wisconsin, Michigan, or Nebraska in their schedule (especially with all three on the road), but at the same time, I'd not be surprised at all if they beat one of those three in an upset, nor would I be surprised if the Gophers were beat by any Big Ten team on their schedule.
  19. It's just odd to me to support talking Wild and TWolves in the Sports Bar but not the Gophers, which is more what I'd want to talk than NFL football regardless. Some issues would be big enough to warrant that discussion anyway, like if Steve McNair was murdered today, for instance.
  20. But I'm locked out of commenting during the day due to it being blocked by my work. It seems the decision was made to go 9/10 of the way toward isolation, but that's my personal view. As long as no one's going to force posts from the sports bar section onto Vikings Journal, I won't have an issue.
  21. Exactly. They now have a bunch of desirable pieces if they choose to blow it up because they don't work together.
  22. Braxton Miller going down really changes the landscape for the Big Ten. The hometown Gophers should hit the Big 10 schedule 3-1 at worst unless the season has really collapsed from underneath them. A healthy Kill would make a huge difference, and .500 in the conference with a schedule that includes home contests with Northwestern, Purdue, Iowa, and Ohio State and away conference games with Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska, and Wisconsin should be feasible, leaving the Gophers with a possible 7-5 season. The talent on the team would allow them a chance to do even better if they come together, but it's also raw enough that 5-7 or even 4-8 wouldn't be outlandish if things go South in a hurry. The first weekend has some good games - UCLA vs. Virginia, West Virginia and Alabama, Georgia and Clemson, Oklahoma State vs. Florida State, Wisconsin vs. LSU, and Miami vs. Louisville. Football gets going this weekend. Get reaaaaaaaaady!!!
  23. I'm more annoyed that football discussion is no longer present on a community forum than which headlines are on the side of the page. A good portion of us joined here because of a community built before coming to TD, and that community was based on talking about all issues, baseball, football, non-sports, whatever. I'll gladly take the lashing for being the one to speak up, but I do feel as if the community most were expecting here has been slowly picked away, including removing football discussion.
  24. The TWolves roster is really a weird arrangement right now. There's really not 5 guys who are all best suited for one style of play unless you choose to do a fast-paced game and go really small. A lot of the team's success current and future will hinge on LaVine and Bennett.
  25. The man has a 10.1 k/9 as a reliever. I think it's time to explore whether he's a vital part of a roster as a swing defensive catcher/mop up reliever. We're talking big money here!
