  1. I must be as dumb as you. But of course, I don't think you are dumb, or the way you communicated was dumb. Well thought out and to the point. We are allowed to break things down in discussion, Good points and post.
  2. The offense is fine? Have you seen the batting averages of the lineups these days. Low .200s or less except for a couple players..... It certainly isn't "fine", and could be a ton better, especially if they are to compete for the playoffs.
  3. Ahhhh, stats. My point basically was, without wasting the time to look it up and going from memory, was that for much of the season they were barely a .500 team. So I did waste the time to see how much I misremembered. On August 5, after a quick start, and they were 10-2. 8 games over .500 On August 2`1 they were 17-10, 7 games over. On August 29th, they were 20-14, 6 games over, and passed by both Chicago and Cleveland. On August 31 they were 20-16, 4 games over. On September 10 they were 27-18, 9 games over. On September 18 they were 31-22, 9 games over, and still 3 games behind Chicago. On September 23, they were 35-22, and a season high 13 games over .500, and back in the division lead by .5 game. On September 27, and the short season end, they were 36-24, 12 games over .500, and barely won the division by 1 game over Cleveland and Chicago. Soooooooooooo, the point was, without looking up the exact dates and records, that they were barely a .500 team after a fast start. From August 5 to September 27, they were barely a .500 team, with much of it a below .500 team. They gained a total of 4 games on .500 from August 5 to September 27. Sorry I misrembered the dates a little bit. I think we both have found stats to back up our points. Gotta love statistics eh? And that was some fine snark - "but I don't recall September occurring before August." Well played.
  4. True, and some of them, like the Giants, are tapping into that instead of the Cleveland and Texas orgs....
  5. But yet, the Dodgers and the Rays seem to do it with a lot lower draft picks every year...... but easier? probably. Seems the guys that go through the Tampa FO system do well when they leave. Giants haven't taken long to rise to the top, either.
  6. Looking back at this........ is real depressing.
  7. "And in any case, Falvey wasn't really hired to sign pitchers. He was hired to develop them." I don't agree. This is semantics. They go hand in hand. If you trade for prospect pitching, that has been partially developed in other orgs, you can't really take complete credit for developing them. That is just about all the pitching in the pipeline. Traded for prospect pitching. Every FO is hired to sign pitchers. Prospects and free agents. These guys were not only about developing, but identifying! It seems, with the success of those they let go or traded away for virtually nothing, and the failures of those they have chosen to fill immediate needs, they could get better at identifying. A lot better.
  8. Expected. That might be the biggest problem. They expected to be good, and seemed to ignore the last 4o days, over half, of the short 2020 season, in which they were barely a .500 team, and moving downward, both at the plate and on the mound. And they went 0-3 (0-6 total) in the playoffs. That continued this year, and there was no upgrade in any of the pitching. Horrible choices. Horrible. And Burrows on the mound.... for 2 innings yesterday! Still making them.
  9. But their pen was one of the best ever, especially the 7/8/9th inning guys. No ace(s) and horrible pen is what the story is here. How is that working for you?
  10. They judged Rooker and Larnach to be ahead of Baddoo in the depth chart. Baddoo became expendable to them. Big mistake. We have a whole set of new players that are not so young, but still strike out about 50% of the time. When hitting (not strikeouts) is their calling card, and they can't hit, and they suck in the field...... it will not make for a better team. I hope they all get it together. We don't need a team of poor fielding striking out .200 (if we are lucky) batters. But that is what we are looking at.
  11. I can't not know Tony "Rally Killer" Diaz at third. He either holds the fast runner, or sends the slow one. And forget about a runner from first scoring on a double. "Rally Killer" will tackle him if he has to, but he won't let him try to score. That is why I liked Eddie. He would occasionally just ignore Diaz and pretend he didn't see him.... and score!
  12. You know that the FO has failed when you are more interested watching games of teams your favorite traded players play for than what was and should be your favorite team. Strangers and visitors and AAAA mish-mash doesn't mean they are my team, does it? It becomes you have to like them because they are what is left of your team, but do you really? Or do you force yourself to?
  13. Jax had some good fortune in this outing. He wasn't fooling anyone, and was getting hit pretty regularly, just right at someone or just inside the park. I remember Scott Diamond. Gotta take the good when you can, especially this year. I can't say that I am rooting for Jax and Ober et al to do all that well. If they do, the FO is likely to go with them for next year instead of getting better pitching for this team, which has been their great failure. Looking at the Bullpen Usage Chart, and the names in it....... really is depressing.
  14. Such clarity. Never. Never ever. Never have two sides changed their position in negotiations and done something different than they have once stated. Never. Thanks for the clarification.
  15. What about when they allow exactly 5 runs? 5 must be included in one of those groups.
  16. Buxton - ABSOLUTELY NOT Rogers - No Donaldson - No, but maybe. If he goes on the IL with an injury, and they bring up Miranda and he continues his shine..... then yes. Kepler - No Sano - Yes It isn't the bats that have caused this team to tank. It was the horrible pitching decisions by the FO.
  17. ? Barnes was a 4th round pick out of Clemson in 2017. Our pick, our homegrown prospect...... and he has arrived!
  18. Looks like it is going to be tough for Charlie Barnes/Barns/Burns. Not that it is malicious, but he is not even winning the name recognition game from the homies! I wish his name was Burns - Corbin Burnes!Charlie Barnes/Barns/Burns will be 26 October 1, To give that some perspective, when folks like to point out someone is average age or young for his league/level, these guys are all 26..... Walker Buehler, RHP, Dodgers; Corbin Burnes, RHP, Brewers; Shane Bieber, RHP, Indians. Sure would be nice if Diaz would get runners to the plate instead of killing the rally at third. Are we the only team that can't seem to score from first on a double? No reason at all, at this point, to not be aggressive and force the other team to make a good play. As we know from our defense, that doesn't always happen.
  19. .... and Mahle (broke Buxton's hand in June) came to the plate yesterday. Maeda pitched very gentlemanly to him - all but one pitch outside and low. Got a called third strike on a pitch 6 inches outside and low. Maeda had just given up back to back homers on the first 2 pitches of the 3rd inning to the 7 and 8 batters, and there was no outs and no one on base. Put the Reds up 2-1. Wild Man Lucas Sims, who beaned Buxton at the end of September in 2019, and assured we wouldn't have him for the playoffs, is on the 10 day IL since June 24.
  20. Don't pay Berrios, but pay a stranger to replace him. I really don't like my team being full of strangers. Different strangers each year. Colome and Robles and Happ and Shoemaker. And all the others. That is one of the main reasons baseball is loosing fans. They don't even know their team, and the FOs don't treat them as people, just an asset. This is not a virtual fantasy game. This is real life. Their own union isn't helping. They have it organized for only a select few to get paid, and so many never get paid for the great seasons they have in their first 5 years while the CBA is set up to not pay them for perhaps the best seasons of their life. Then they become bad investments, and they are paying them for horrible future seasons. It is all screwed up.
  21. Bizarre first game for Martin. So what does Miranda have to do to get put on the roster and help the Twins? Or do they just like to see him play in St Paul? Donaldson ain't playing anyway for the last 6 games. We know Rooker can hit...... and strike out like Sano (....and Larnach 48 times in last 105 ABs). But does Rooker really have a future (Did Palka have a future? Does Sano?) Is there a reason the Prospect Summary isn't being updated with the new players yet?
  22. With what the Twins are doing with this team now, there is no reason to not have Refsnyder back on the Twins. Miranda, too.
  23. Wow. That St. Paul box has some pretty rough pitching in it. Doesn't look like much help coming from there. (I see 11 team LOB, not 21 - still not helpful....)
  24. Well.... only those that are losing, and have a bad team that they were responsible for at least some if not all of the design of, perhaps. And what do they all have in common? The team that they run was a loser. Just the folks one wants to emmulate.
  25. Not incompetent. But they did create this problem with all their cheap pitching signings and failures. They are now ripping a team apart because of those failures. I don't like it one bit. It could have been all way different. And the fact that they ever signed Happ in the first place (and Shoemaker) to inflict this horror on the team and fans leans them back toward incompetent a bit......
