  1. Isn't this a fool me once shame on you, fool me 4-5 times shame on me?
  2. Contending is a bad word. Contending in the Central doesn't take much and doesn't mean you have a good team. It seems that a lot of fans and maybe the front office and ownership think that is good enough. If you feel that way leave things as they are and hope for the best. If you would like them to build a team that can win a playoff game and maybe a playoff series or two things need a complete overhaul, imo.
  3. Keeping him for what? August and Sept taking up a spot on a very bad pitching staff that could be taken by somebody that might help next year? Is there a 5% chance he resigns next year? I doubt it. Why after all these years of hope and failure would they even consider giving him a new contract? With all the teams looking for pitching there will be a least a couple that will offer him a stupid amout when he hits the market. The choice isn't the Twins anyway he's a free agent after the season. Get what you can for him, which likely won't be much, and move on.
  4. Good for him. Play a few more years get vested in the pension, make a few million bucks playing baseball will set up the rest of his life for him if he's isn't stupid. Another item, Seth what's going on with Wmmers?
  5. You don't trade a player just to trade them unless it's a salary dump and the Twins aren't going broke at this point. If any player on the team can bring back talent that will make them better you do it. If Perkins or Burton can bring back talent to make you better do it. If Morneau, Willingham or Span can bring back talent to make you better do it. If you trade them to save a few bucks to put in the Pohlads pocket then you piss me off. We need more talent!
  6. Thank you John. Everyone should be on the table, this team needs lots of everything. Next years rotation right now would be Diamond, Blackburn and what?
  7. Just think how much better the Twins hitters would look facing the Twins pitchers. Joe might even hit some homeruns!
  8. Imo, you listen on any player on the roster. If you can help the team long term it needs to be done. Willingham and Span you say make me an offer I can't refuse and you don't trade these guys for relief pitchers.
  9. Dick Bremer and the other Twins paid media people have been pushing the idea that the Twins are back and ready to contend. Now if they believe this and are not just trying to mantain fan interest they must think they should be buyers. Now giving them the benifit of the doubt if they play .600 baseball the last 101 games they could make it to 85 wins. However, they certainly can't do that with this starting staff or the guys from AAA. That would mean buying which imo would be really stupid and even if you're that delusional what would you use to trade for the pitching? Sano, Hicks? It really has to go back to the off season, cutting payroll and leaving the starting staff poorly constructed and with very little talent and that was done by the guy in charge of fixing this mess. Does anyone have faith in Ryan to do that?
  10. I'm not real sure about the "good baseball" thing. Most nights it's been which team is worse not which team is good. Lots of bad pitching, baserunning and fielding along with poor hitting. Its just that the last couple weeks the Twins are less worse.
  11. We've been hearing for a week from Coomer how the Twins can get back in the race. But does anyone really think this is a playoff team. They had the worst record in the AL last year and for the first third of this year. Right now the Rangers have the best record at .579 and if the Twins were to play Ranger quality ball the rest of the way they'd finish with 83 wins. Let's hope Ryan is realistic, not dreaming and will work hard before the trade deadline to rebuild the talent level on this team.
  12. Position players pitch now and then. Butera pitched an inning early this year. I'm not talking about sticking him out there for a 9 inning game. 20-30 pitches in the bull pen a few times will likely give the coaches an idea if he has a chance or not. You certainly wouldn't pitch him in games this year but you could figure out for after the season if it's a viable option for next year. However, he is still young no reason to panic yet but it would be nice to see a little more progress.
  13. I can't see how a few bull pen sessions and maybe a simulated game could hurt anything. Wouldn't it be worth a try?
  14. Does it appear the Twins way is to build from the bull pen out?
