  1. Yes only 15 games left. Better safe than sorry!
  2. Darn maybe he just isn't good enough, but we can still like him! Seems like a nice guy even if he talks funny.
  3. If the answer is the manager is only as good as the players then what good is a manager anyway? Isn't it his responsibility to make them better and put them in positions to succeed? Can anyone really say after the last 2 years that is the case? Division titles in the weak central make some happy but no playoff wins since 2004 says much more, imo.
  4. At some point they need to decide if they will just put a few more band aids on the roster or if the are really going to rebuild, For two years now the band aid approach hasn't worked, maybe it's time to move on from the past and rebuild, at least that could give us some hope.
  5. That would seem silly he'd be 36 entering that ext year.
  6. The Twins will have to run a 10 man rotation to make use of all that talent. Not sure talent is the correct word to use.
  7. Lets hope we hear more about the Twins being "fed up" so they can drive his trade value down. They really need to hire a good used car salesman to talk about these guys they might trade.
  8. Trade for Hardy, sign Liriano and Lohse all set. I wish they had a plan either spend some money and try to build a short term playoff team or rebuild. You have Morneau (13), Willingham, Doumit, Carroll and Span thru 14. Now either build a playoff team around these guys, which means spending some money or trade these guys and rebuild for 14 or 15 with youth. I'm not sure you can do both at the same time. Pick one or the other, imo.
  9. 2 rings vs. zero playoff wins? Not much of a contest imo.
  10. He has zero power. Not even close to Torii Hunter. I see him as a Juan Pierre comp. and a really good 4th Outfielder. Span has been a better player this season and probably would fetch more. I just see Revere is a block to Hicks and Arcia for some reason as well since all three are young. He was talking about "personality" not power or hitting numbers.
  11. I'd like them to send him home to Tampa for Shields. Probably take an additional player or players to make it work but that would be a good start for the rotation. Pitching in the Central instead of the East his numbers would be even better. However, Shields is making enough I don't think he fits in the soon to be reduced payroll, est 85m?
  12. Let's hope he is smart enough to move on this winter, I'm assuming he is a minor league free agent this winter. It doesn't appear he has been treated fairly by the Twins for a few years.
  13. It really doesn't matter what they do at this point.
  14. Willingham 7 mil. Doumit 3 mil. Burton <1 mil. Those three combined were had for less than for what it would have taken to retained Cuddyer alone. Also they now have more payroll flexibility in 2013 and 2014 because of those deals. Did you read what I said or just react? "...but saved a bunch of money..."
  15. "Last year he was able to land us Willingham, Doumit and Burton which were all great pick ups." The problem is that these guys just replaced guys that left, Cuddy, Kubel and Nathan. That ended up being about a wash no real gain, but saved a bunch of money and the Pohlads wisely used the savings to buy a few luxury car dealerships!
  16. The good thing is that Livan and Marquis are back on the market this winter, pitching problems solved. Trade rumor says Red Sox pitcher Doubrnot has been claimed and speculates it could be part of a Mauer trade.
  17. Dick said they are hitting .307 off Diamond in Aug not including tonight. That may mean more meatballs or scouts are getting better reports on him thus teams are hitting him better. Might also just be a bad month, time will tell.
  18. I can only guess that "shoulder soreness" will turn into "bilateral shoulder weakness". Kind of looks like the league is catching up with Mr Diamond.
  19. If any of these guys are real prospects I'm not sure exposing them to what's going on with this team is a good plan.
  20. With Marcum, Liriano, Greinke, Jackson, Sanchez, and others hitting the FA market this winter, there is really no excuse for the Twins not to pick up one of those guys in the $12-15m per year range in a 3-5 year deal. They have the money and they have the need. History be damned, they need to pick up one of those guys. There may not be a good excuse for not signing one of them but TR has already said that it's not the way he plans to go. Unless Ryan suddenly decides to change his MO and spend big in free agency for the first time how else do you fill out the rotation?
  21. With our outstanding starting rotation it might be hard to find a spot for Vargas. You guys do understand we have the worst starting pitching in the majors?
  22. Which free agent pitchers would you put at the level of Vargas? I don't see a lot of solid starters on the market, a lot of so so guys but not a lot of quality. How much do you expect the quality guys to cost and will they have to over pay for those guys to get them to sign with a last place team? Just because we want a free agent doesn't mean they will want us. After all a bird in the hand.........
  23. The easy part is we have the first claim and the Mariners are in town. Ryan just needs to walk into the Mariners box and make a deal before he even makes the claim. If he is not willing to give up something for him and the chance to kick start improving the rotation for next year I'm at a loss as to why. Nothing is free you give up something to get it, the cost of quality FA pitching is very high and his salary next year will fit in the Pavano 8m slot. DO something please!
  24. 60 games under 500 over the last 2 years would cause most people to think maybe it's time to make some serious changes. But we get maybe a tweak here or there and we'll be ok. Don't trade anyone they are all great players, it's add one or two pitchers and we'll be a contender (around 500 in the Central) again. Getting to the end of two years of some very bad baseball and thinking this team is not far away is silly, imo. Our record is worse than the Royals the last two years, does anyone think the Royals are a player or two away from contending?
