  1. Known cheaters should not be in the Hall. If there are people who slipped in, it is unfortunate. But, if known cheaters are allowed in then, where do you draw the line? Remember, there are many ways of cheating. Some not even invented yet. You destroy the integrity of what it takes to get in if you allow cheaters in. Lets say Sosa has 70 HR's with enhancers but someone else has 35 per year in the same era (or maybe before) and not judged Hall material. Who can really say what Sosa would have hit without? Maybe his performance would be less than the 35 homer guy? So given that you do not know ... and there is liklihood guys understate usage they can't be in the Hall.
  2. How can anyone be positive what Bonds - McGuire performance would be without enhancement drugs? Sosa and McGuire 70 HR's at what 35+? How many people, athletes or no , can perform better at 35 to 40 than 25 to 30? No, the folks on that list are simply out of the Hall. The Hall is a unique honor. You cannot cheat to get in. Players like Oliva and Kaat are off the list for flimsy reasons too. Hall voters were unconvinced either were truly among the elite. I disagree. They passed the eyeball test for me and i can find less impressive players who are in the Hall. If you open the Hall to cheaters, where do you draw the line?
  3. Thanks for the positive reminder
  4. I think there are good miles left in the M&M boys. Build a solid foundation on guys who have pride in being Twins.
  5. Hate to see the team trading away guys like Span and Morneau especially ... they practically beg to stay. That does a lot for a team foundation. Sign Baker. Find a good free agent.
  6. He chose big money. That is fine, understandable even. I would not have kept him for those dollars and those years. But, after he left it seemed to me he trashed the Twins in a manner that made him a hypocrite. Hunter leaving let us develop Span so I am glad he left.
  7. Be strong! Life has no guarantees.
  8. Mormeau is fine as a Twin. Find other trade bait.
  9. Probably a case can be made that every pro athlete, in any sport, is overpaid if balanced against long-term contributions to society. But, it is supply and demand. He happens to be uniquely talented at an important and demanding position. So he commands that income because he was producing big time at contract time ... and the Twins were winning. How many complainers would care to squat down 3-4 hours a day, 120 days per year? Or, take foul tips off the mask, the groin, foot, etc, or the collisions at home plate on a regular basis? Those abuses take a major toll on a body. I wager that Joe will have plenty of aches and pains in his golden years. I do not think he is a malingerer like I felt about Gaborik or Demitra.
  10. Streaking?
  11. It is, afterall, a slice of life. Sometimes things simply do not work out. This year was a year to adjust expectations ... having done that some time ago I am still watching (and even enjoying) most games.
  12. People jump to conclusions over a whole lot of things we have no way of knowing. Without all of that missing information any conlusion we make is inaccurate. I have had three rotator cuff surgeries, two in the last 18 months. The oldest of the last two has not healed to allow a full range of motion despite best efforts of surgeon and therapist. They will not heal evenly because they are all different. No one can predict or guarantee any result. It is not an exact science, the result will vary. We do not have enough information to make educated guesses about their competence.
  13. George Carling got it right in his "Baseball vs Football" routine. In baseball "everyone is up, the object of the game is to go home ... football is a down game, what down is it? You score if you get a touchdown." Et al.
  14. It seems to me in the highly competitive world of MLB it is improbable that Slama, or any other player for that matter, is held down for reasons except the perception that a player cannot compete. Teams cannot afford the luxury of making roster decisions to protect the egos of their management. I am not big on conspiratorial theories.
  15. Diamond fined and suspended sucks if Oswalt goes free.
  16. Good thoughts! I do not get enjoyment from others' failures. Better to be sympathetic.
  17. Interesting perspective.
