  1. To be fair, thinking in general on concussions has changed dramatically in just the past couple of years. I think comparisons with past standards and expectations are pretty much out the window at this point. That's why MLB instituted a new 7-day DL for just these types of injuries. You're going to find all stakeholders in the game (owners, athletes, FO types, agents, medical staffs, etc) being much more cautious than in the past. It makes the question of should he move to reduce the chance of future concussions very legitimate in my mind. And I think the fact that catchers Iand umpires) are so prone to this type of injury is something MLB is going to have to address sooner rather than later, just as the NFL is being forced to address it.
  2. I'm not going to say it's right or wrong. But it's not something I personally can do, as much as I understand the argument about draft picks and giving playing time to younger players (which I understand is not the same as trying to lose). I could never root for the Twins to lose. Just how I feel.
  3. OK. That did it. See ya all.
  4. The really sucky part is that the Twins still have a chance to come back - so I can't in good conscience turn it off in disgust.
  5. That's it. Rochester is in the playoffs - bring on Pawtucket!
  6. I think SABR is working on a new stat for next year, to compensate for that: Batter-independent pitch framing.
  7. 3 innings in 90 minutes. This is the kind of pace of play that is going to kill the sport dead.
  8. That's it. Durham 1, Norfolk 0. The playoff spot is Rochester's for the taking.
  9. So how long do we let Albers pitch batting practice?
  10. Durham just scored to go ahead in the top of the 10th.
  11. I'll take them any way I can get them.
  12. Durham & Norfolk scoreless through 9.
  13. Anderson to Albers: "You're getting pounded by the worst team in baseball. Think about that, rook."
  14. Durham & Norfolk 0-0 through 8.
  15. This. I'm going to be in Minnesota at the end of September on vacation - my first one back since I moved to Idaho. And I have a ticket to the last game of the season, against Cleveland. I am looking forward to it immensely. I don't care what their record is. I don't care what the names are on the backs of their uniforms. I'm going to the game and I'm going to enjoy the hell out of it because it is Twins baseball. Yes, 3 consecutive losing seasons is frustrating; I'm not saying there aren't valid reasons for critique (although I personally think this becomes excessive on some of the forum threads - still, venting frustration is usually a good thing;)). But at the end of the day I am a Twins fan and I'm going to watch because it's my team. They are a part of my extended "family." And like all family, you have to love them even when they drive you crazy sometimes.
  16. Another good point - like to know that for myself.
  17. Good point - this might have been an important piece
  18. If Morneau has expressed an interest in such a move, and if the Twins have determined that he will not be a part of their plans going forward, then why not? They did the same thing with Thome, also.
  19. Given their recent nosedive - going from 3 games up in the division to a half-game back in the wild card - maybe the chemistry needs messing with. It's been frustrating to watch them squander good starts with lousy bullpen work.
  20. Ugh. 18 minutes. A new record for how short a time it takes for me to lose interest in a game. Looks like I'll have to do some work today instead.
  21. Did you not understand my post? None. Motion is impossible.
  22. I'm not sure this is possible - if you were driving a car past the line, then not all the cars in the world would be lined up. Stay tuned - next week I prove that it is not possible to walk from point A to point B. (Those wanting to read ahead can look up the Greek philosopher Zeno).
  23. Because many of the people calling for Vavra's head last year were touting Brunansky as a replacement? Does make it kind of awkward to be critical of him this year - nothing like the taste of of your own toes to kind of spoil the whole day.
  24. That, or maybe the Twins told him he wouldn't be offered a contract for next year. In that case, no reason not to make the break official now. I think the Twins are still on the tab for the rehab, regardless.
  25. Berrios/Polanco/Kepler tier would be a good trade - I'd consider it well done by Ryan. I'd eat his whole salary to make this happen. Harrison/Walker/Goodrum would be OK for me too - I'd call that a push. I might eat a little salary for this, but not much. Boer/Boyd/Grimes would be giving him away for nothing.
