  1. If this was the forum (a pregame interview) in which Gardy surfaced these thoughts, then possibly there might be a valid critique, although personally I think it's a mighty big reach to get there, even for those who are his biggest critics. My guess, however, is that Gardy had a conversation with Albers after his first start and debriefed him on it, and probably Anderson too. In it I'm guessing they complimented him on the things he did well and gave him some thoughts for areas to improve. He doesn't have overpowering stuff, so he truly has to pitch and not just throw. In those cases there is always room for improvement and to learn, and the margin for error is diminished (as Mr. Diamond has shown us this year). My guess is that the quote highlighted here is in relation to those areas where they pointed out to him areas of improvement, in which case the quote becomes quite valid.
  2. We'll celebrate it in Idaho too.
  3. I'll bet they start selling #63 jerseys tomorrow!
  4. Actually, that's the best way to jump in - with no clue as to what is going on. I do it all the time.
  5. I think it all depends on which philosophy you use to compile a prospect list. Is it just based on the potential reward, or is risk also factored in? Based purely on reward, I still would go with Buxton - he has the highest overall potential. But he is also still in A-ball and, while holding his own, is not knocking down the door yet to be advanced (although I, like many others, expect he will do so next year). Thus there is a higher risk that something will happen and he might plateau before reaching the majors (think Benson). I don't expect that, but that is always a risk for a prospect still in Single-A. If you factor in risk, i.e. who is closer to being ready and already shown he can compete at a higher level, I go with Sano - after a slow start (not unexpected) he is starting to crank it up at Double-A and there is I think little doubt now that he will be in a Twins uniform soon.
  6. Unless you have some inside information from somebody in the Abreu camp, there is absolutely no way to know that money is going to be the deciding factor. No matter who he signs for, he will be set for life, and I'm sure he knows that. Professional athletes decide all the time to go to a team other than the highest bidder for non-financial reasons (climate, contention status, personal preference, etc).
  7. I for one did not agree with the decision - for the simple reason that if I had been making my major league debut and had a 7-run lead in the 9th with 2 outs to go, with my parents in the stands, I'd want to try and finish it. That said, when the manager comes out to make the move, you accept it without dissent. That's his job; it's his call. I can discuss it with him later in the clubhouse out of public view if I'm really ticked about it. And I don't contradict the manager in a public interview afterward. That's just foolish.
  8. I would respectfully suggest that if another payroll/front office strategy "debate" breaks out here it won't be because of the post to which you responded. The topic of the original post, with the additional comment on Morneau's contract, do that just fine on their own.
  9. Time to bring in our closer. Wait. He's already out there.
  10. If he can start doing that again on a regular basis, I'd give it to him.
  11. Did anybody hear that? It sounded like a phone ringing in Terry Ryan's office.
  12. Home Runs! They cover a multitude of sins!
  13. Simple. Just has to say he was led astray by hanging out with people of questionable character.
  14. Well, I'll be the gentleman if no one else will - you got Crawford's body and Churchill's brain.
  15. "A hanging post is a gift from God." -Kirby Puckett
  16. I don't think so. Excellent play by Ramirez. Hard hit, diving stop. Most times thats into left field.
  17. Gibson getting hit hard a bit - lot of fly ball outs.
  18. OK, question of the day: Is this Kyle Gibson's last start? And if not, how many more does he get. He has 92.2 innings in Rochester, and 36.1 for the Twins. That's 129 total.
  19. As someone who has some small amount of training in mental health I would encourage you to be more open and not try to repress your feelings so much.
  20. It might be a bit before the Rochester players have finished their season - looks likely they are going to the playoffs.
  21. On Thomas, IIRC there was speculation that he had a "call up by xx/xx" clause in his contract, which is why he got the nod in June. If not honored, it would result in his being allowed to choose to be a free agent and leave the club. If that clause does exist and is the reason he got the nod originally, would trying to send him back to Rochester violate that? Would it lead to his being able to leave? Not that I would be that concerned if it did, but that might have to factor into what happens next, especially if we are perceived as being a little light in CF right now as an organization, as I have seen others in these forums suggest.
  22. One question - do MLB roster rules allow DeVries to be put on the major league 60-day DL? He is currently on the minor league DL, and I don't believe it is allowed to transfer someone from the minor league 7-day DL to the major league 60-day DL.
