  1. Seth, did you get an eyewitness report on the defensive lapses at Cedar Rapids? At one point, Vielma was also listed for 3 errors along with Wade. Apparently the official scorer changed his ruling. My guess is Aussies and Venezuelans don't adjust immediately to playing baseball in mid-30 degree conditions. Gotta give the Kernels pitchers credit for playing through some adversity.
  2. Did he make an excuse for his defensive gem at 3B?
  3. Per ESPN: [h=2]Solarte's 3 hits lead Yankees over Astros[/h]Kelly Johnson must be looking over his shoulder, as Yangervis Solarte goes 3 for 3, reaching base 4 times with a base on balls and including a double for one of his 3 hits. Solarte was playing at Third Base in his first major league start. Solarte scored 2 runs and drove in another, batting in the 9 spot. Despite reports to the contrary, Solarte continued his strong defensive play from Spring Training that had Manager Joe Girardi raving, snaring a bullet down the line off the bat of Jose Altuve, putting an end to an Astros rally attempt in the 8th inning. Solarte and Ichiro combined for 5 of the 7 Yankees hits in leading the Yankees to their first victory of the season, 4-2 over the Astros. (Alex Presley was 1 for 4 in his 2nd game for Houston). http://scores.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=340403118
  4. Actually, this was one of his better games: Sample PITCHf/x strike zone: August 15, 2009. It was this strike zone that prompted SB Nation's Jeff Sullivan to declare Bucknor's employment as an umpire "not good for the game." http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/17rlzn3bs9hzdpng.png
  5. And a long, strange trip getting there....but worth it! (I am curious what Fox Sports North will decide what to keep in, and what to edit in their 2 hour condensed version of the game).
  6. It turns out that Bert's Fractured English is but one of the "billions and billions" of cosmic mysteries associated with baseball that Neil plans to cover in the next episode: http://cdn.inquisitr.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Neil-deGrass-Tyson-Baseball-Tweets.png
  7. Unfortunately, Swarzie's high leverage history is far shakier than Deduno's.
  8. Speaking of Rochester..... Twins 40-man roster space occupier, Brooks Raley, makes his Red Wing debut in dubious fashion- 1.2 innings pitched, 1 run, 3 hits, 2 BBs. I hope Rob Antony kept Jose Mijares' phone number around somewhere, lefty pitching depth appears to be problematic at this point.
  9. But Mr TTO hasn't had a BB yet!
  10. Yeah, but that was based solely on the opinion of their Far East talent evaluators.....ie, Nishi too good for Japan, Cola not good enough for US or Japan.
  11. Yep. Gosh, I sure hope he isn't drinking his prayer beads, just dipping them in the cold one in his right hand.....
  12. But then again, given today's paltry attendance, he'll never achieve true Delmonesque cluelessness.
  13. Thanks, perfesser....!
  14. I'm guessing he mispronounced it, too?
  15. Soooo.... you're a right-handed drinker?
  16. After two rainouts in Cleveland and Justin Masterson on Sunday, I'll go Plouffe on Opening Day, 4/7/14.
  17. Yeah, but it's going to take more than a Cola in your hand to make it through watching all 162 games.
  18. I flipped away from this comedy of errors for a hot minute, hoping for a quality upgrade from the Rochester/Buffalo opening day action. Nope. Scott Diamond has already been knocked out after just 2 innings, giving up 5 runs and 6 hits. And Santana recorded his first error (I guess AAA official scorers haven't gotten the memo yet about them being outlawed). Mastro drove in 2 runs. After 3, Bisons 5, Red Wings 2.
  19. How'd you like to have this as your NY Times epitaph?:
  20. Fantasy league market inefficiencies?
  21. Sorry James, didn't mean to step on your pithiness. Gotta read all the way to the end of a thread.....
  22. Marv Throneberry would be proud.
  23. Zuke as Buster? Checking out before checking off? Market research staff on crack, mebbe?
  24. Before opening day on Monday?
  25. Does anyone know what the Sox were asking for De Aza? I wonder if this isn't a reaction from him after hearing what the Twins lowball offer was to the Sox to acquire him.
