Zero vision for the lineup, zero vision for the BP…. the starting rotation is promising, the incompetence of roster construction in the other areas leads me to believe it’s a lot of luck. The goal of the organization seems to be maintaining team control as long as possible to avoid potentially costly arbitration cases.

There isn’t a chance this is a team that can contend, if for no other reason than the BP, throw in Lewis, Wallner and no serious option at 1st and there are too many holes to fill. I suggest trading Ryan for some relief help like Colome, Columbine, Pagan…. those arms seem to be what the organization thinks help you win as they keep replacing them with what we are seeing this season.

The rotation isn't the issue with this team. The lineup barely changed from last year, with the same issues present this season, poor defense, lack of team speed and Matt Wallner still seeing playing time. Throw in one of the worst BP's in MLB and it looks bleak.... other than some promising young arms. If Matthews continues to improve he should be swapped out with SWR, who is the one starter that doesn't look like he belongs.

Minnesota Twins Bullpen Confidence Rankings: Can You Trust Anyone, Anymore?
hitterscount commented on Sam Caulder's article in Twins
The BP doesn't inspire much confidence.....and yet some how it doesn't matter much when you can't score runs and field. It's not that difficult of a game if you have legit talent on the roster.- 8 comments

Twins (Bradley) vs Rays (Rasmussen): 4/24/24, 6:10pm

Yeah, paying extra because the better half is a brewers fan and had to add on brewers.tv living in Wisconsin. -

The collapse starts in April.... about 2 months early. There was a two week stretch where they had good AB's making SP work and driving up pitch counts, played better than average defense, ran the bases with a few SB's sprinkled in.... for the most part the starting pitching has done the job..... than back to reality the last week and a half. MLB subscription could be cancelled by early June this year. -
I hate to point out that I have been saying for 18 months that Wallner is not a MLB player, at minimum a MLB level outfielder. The stats say it all, throw in his awful defense and it’s borderline criminal to have him on the 26 man roster. Looks like there’s a legit replacement… it’s time to start making changes to players that aren’t helping the team and are actually detrimental to, which Wallner has been for some time.

I will never use , well almost never, umpires, refs as excuses for losses…. however next season it’s time to implement the ABS … the strike zone is the strike zone, not what the home plate ump of the day feels it is. That sequence on ball calls that were strikes are how things can unravel …. no place for that many missed calls…. it goes for both teams, pitchers and batters, they deserve better.

Minnesota Twins 2026 Position Analysis: First Base
hitterscount replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Was holding out some hope that we could be competitive until mid August. Even with the Lopez injury I still believe that the SP is going to be good enough to compete. Here's my issue and why I think 75 wins is probably the ceiling. An emphasis is being placed on defense, yet we have Lee at SS, Wallner and Larnach in the OF. We seem to think 1st is irrelevant defensively... it's not. It's certainly a position you can put someone with limited range,, however it's critical for scooping bad throws from the IF, accurate throws to start DP's, throws to the plate, you just don't throw a extra body there.... especially one that isn't a above average hitter. We will once again leave outs on the field, giving up runs that should end innings and will be actually extending them leading to higher pitch counts in high leverage situations. Throw in the catcher position that is average at best defensively and just how did we improve on this new emphasis placed on defense and speed.. It's looking like a month to month subscription to MLBTV.- 43 replies

Running back Wallner and Larnach is possibly the most incompetent front office strategy any GM could deploy. How many seasons of data is needed to move on..... apparently the eyes will get another season of ineptness at the plate with a dose of pathetic defensive play.

Duran was given the ball in the 9th when Balldelli was managing like a normal manager.... which wasn't all the time. So glad he's gone. The BP is sketchy, not a fan of closer by committee, but this could be the best approach to see who can handle the role.

They should have one of the strongest rotations in all of baseball. Without that there is little chance of doing anything. I am in favor of going young, the energy, optimism, brings some degree of hope that there could be a major change on the offense and getting back to sound fundamental baseball. The first month, six weeks may bring more losses than wins, but with this rotation a run is possible come June.

Kody Clemens: A Good Player in the Wrong Role?
hitterscount replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is a breakout year for a guy that is a career .200 hitter that hits .213 in his last season who will be 30 in May a true breakout year. To have him even in consideration as the starting first baseman is a joke. Does he value as a utility guy... absolutely.... but as you note this idea that he is really good is a head scratcher.... maybe on the Twins he is? -
They may have more than enough LH hitting OF’s, but it’s far from a logjam of talent. We have watched or there is enough of a sample size of data to confirm that none of them are even average outfielders, minus Jenkins and Rodriquez who are still young and haven’t played at the MLB level… at least enough to make a accurate assessment. I said this last winter with Larnach and Wallner, there is no reasonable explanation to having them both as the corner outfielders. Now there is more than enough of a sample size to evaluate that their hitting doesn’t offset their poor defensive abilities. There is so much work to do on this roster it may not be reasonable to expect more than 70-75 wins in 26.

Right, there were many games that Target field looked packed in September compared to most of the non-competitive teams the A's fielded the last 5-7 years in Oakland. Trading your best players is great, as long as you continue to win..... losing on a consistent basis will ruin many fans support/enthusiasm of their hometown or favorite teams....look no farther than Minnesota's attendance last year. So if you want to draw 1.25 - 1.5 million in 26 by all means trade all of the remaining guys with value and field a team like we saw from late June on.
