  1. No, but you would certainly think he has a large say in the vision and strategy of where they're trying to go -- which, without specific names, is kind of what we're talking about here if the goal is to target more strikeout-type guys.
  2. It's that dang auto-filter! It thinks Tewks_hitting is Tewk-naughty poop-ing.
  3. Welcome to the bigs, Chris! Feel free to check out his Adopt-A-Prospect page for more info on Mr. Colabello: http://twinsdaily.com/adopt-prospect-2013/6095-chris-colabello.html
  4. Nothing official from the Twins yet, but Colabello's personal hitting coach just said he's been called up. https://twitter.com/Tewk****ting/status/337063849775742976 Assuming it's true.... CONGRATS TO CHRIS!! Well deserved and we look forward to watching you play with the big club!
  5. Bobby Tewksbary, Colabello's personal hitting coach, just broke the news on Twitter that Chris has been called up. https://twitter.com/Tewk****ting/status/337063849775742976 (Link does not work due to auto-filter. Replace the stars with Tewks_hitting minus the underscore.)
  6. He's making $10m this year and let's call it $15m, then $20m before becoming a free agent. When he does get traded and signs that extension, he'll be making closer to $30m for 2016 and beyond. If the gaining team gets him this year, they aren't going to pay that full value $30m until it covers the seasons beyond his arbitration years (you see this in extensions all the time) -- hence they get to pay significantly less than his true market value until that point. We're probably talking $15-20m in savings from his true value. Team thrive on positive net value -- getting more production from a player than they are paying for. If you can't see how those savings during arbitration years provide trade value, then I guess I'm at a loss...
  7. Why not bring Perkins back out for the 10th? He didn't go through a lot of pitches there in the 9th...
  8. You're right about the extension, but service time is absolutely consequential. If it wasn't, why would they be considering trading him 2 years out from free agency? It's the many millions difference from the salary he'll end up getting that directly affects his trade value.
  9. Yes, and get it back the next year with the compensation pick.
  10. That seems subjective -- where have they done this? Most of their stars get call ups after a point in the year where control issues aren't a concern -- and that's what we're debating here. Jennings - Sept 1, Zobrist - Aug 1, Price - Sept 14, Moore - Sept 14, Hellickson - Aug 2. Longoria was the exception (April 12), but was an injury replacement. And they haven't called up their top prospects Myers, Odorizzi, Archer, or Lee.
  11. Can't say I agree with you on the first part. A baseball player (or asset, if you prefer) is certainly more valuable with more years of control. If your immediate outlook is to maximize trade value, you'd certainly make decisions to support that.
  12. I'm with you here. Parmelee needs his chance. Colabello is the better option given the current roster situation. Some AAA time won't hurt the young slugger one bit.
  13. Good ol' Delmon. Delmon was young, but he followed the same pattern that many Rays do... he was called up August 29th. It seems a bit ridiculous to be worried about getting 2 weeks out of a guy (maybe 3 starts) at the MLB level when we're talking about him contributing for at least the next 6 years and that decision could potentially cost millions of dollars. That argument is even stronger when we're talking about an extra year of control.
  14. Right. I wouldn't call Texas co-eds an advantage. I watched a low-A ballplayer, who certainly didn't get anywhere near $4M to sign, propose before a game last year to his girlfriend that was a solidly out of his league.
  15. Except they don't. Wil Myers is in AAA right now for this exact reason. Of all teams, they are especially conscious of the economics.
  16. Contribute in the future, yes. How does an inconsistent, recovering TJ-er with an inning limit matter so much more right now? Why not see the 30 year olds and make a last determination if they can also contribute in the future? They don't turn in to pumpkins at 31...
  17. I agree with you completely about not passing on talent, but we don't see a guy who is clearly superior on talent for #4... No one wants them to reach, but if it's a coin flip and one guy is willing to take less... why not? Even if it's only 20-40% chance of paying off like you're saying.
  18. My point is it seems like a lot of folks would rip an underslot deal no matter what because of the Twins' reputation of being cheap. In reality, it'd be just fine for the right player. So, where's the floor of who would be okay for a deal like that? For me, (outside of the top 3) that floor contains Stewart, Shipley, and Frazier with Meadows, Moran, and Manaea as borderline.
  19. Some rumors don't make it a reality. You'd be okay with an underslot deal if Shipley were the pick?
  20. Agreed. I was hoping we'd see Deduno or Walters get another chance. We certainly have others in the rotation that will need to be replaced at this rate.
  21. I think 1B is the last move. We can say there's no OF hole in the future, but that also makes the dangerous assumption that prospects pan out. There's no reason not to put him in RF if 3B isn't working, especially with the porch out there in TF that hides some range. He can make the transition to 1B quickly if it comes to that with depth or continued defense issues.
  22. Need to make a move, but that's easy with some options for the 60-day DL.
  23. The top 3 seem to be pretty well set for everyone. Beyond that, you seem to see 4-6 names tossed around with no clear indications of superior talent within that band. Of course we don't want the Twins to reach for a less talented player to save some money, but would it be such a bad strategy if one of the players in that band was willing to swing a deal to go #4 and load up on extra slot money for later picks? I'm afraid fans are going to overreact to this scenario if it happens.
  24. So, what exactly is the point? That the Twins should move their prospects faster? Aaron Hicks didn't have mindblowing numbers and the Twins let him skip AAA, but get blasted for that just the same. Arcia played a handful of games at AAA. Joe Mauer skipped AAA. I think it's more so a matter of having players with impactful talent... which we just haven't had the last few years. With the prospects we now have in the system, it wouldn't be unreasonable to see some prospects moving at different paces than we've seen recently.
  25. Chris was just named the International League Player of the Week for the second time already this season. He had a pretty amazing week (.536/.594/1.071, 7 G, 15-for-28, 6 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 7 R, 2 BB, 7 K) and then hit a grand slam to lead off the next week last night. Offensive Players of the Week | MiLB.com News | The Official Site of Minor League Baseball He played RF on both Sunday and Monday instead of his usual 1B/DH. Presumably, the major league club is trying to assess whether he can fill some innings out there as a platoon, PH option, or emergency. Watch closely for roster moves this Friday as the Twins shuffle players around to get a 5th starter onto the active roster. Chris has certainly earned a chance.
