  1. Did you guys make a decision to change the organization of the site? Why are article comments and game threads now under Twins Talk? One of the things I liked best about the site was that you had a pretty good organizational structure. Not too many divisions under forums but just enough that I knew that the Article comments would generally be by the 4 Twins Centrics writers plus a few bloggers; Twins talk would generally have threads unrelated to articles and that Game Threads had their own home. Curious why things are getting lumped together today.
  2. I see very little reason for hope. I see an organization that except for a retread from Bill Smith to Terry Ryan is as stagnant as it was last summer. Until I see some infusion of talent, enthusiasm and ideas in the management of this organization - both front office and field staff - I see very little reason for raising my expectations.
  3. Thanks UR for responding about Liddle and for all of the info you provided in your posts. Enjoyed the back and forth at the end of this thread. And with regard to Glunn's comment: It must be difficult to keep your focus when the team has become a "cellar dweller", as any playoff hopes get more and more distant with each terrible game played. Is this a reason if at all possible to keep rotating in some minor leaguers (to the extent you can do so without screwing up service time)? It seems to me that we saw last year and again this year that the "youngsters" bring a new enthusiasm and spark. Although in both years the improved winning percentage was against mediocre teams, it does seem like the "thrill" of being promoted has a short-term positive effect before the team seems to wear the newby down to dullness. Just wondering if there is some way to keep a spark of enthusiasm alive on this team (before they wear down Plouffe and Revere, too, although I'm not sure it would ever be possible to wear down Revere).
  4. A game that sped by in the first 5 innings is now definitely dragging along.
  5. On Revere not scoring, I still have questions about Liddle's effectiveness at 3rd but it is so hard to tell anything on TV. I hope that one of these days some of the people who go to a lot of games will comment on what they observe from him.
  6. Nice HR by the Span Man
  7. The single was fairly shallow but he could have scored if he went all out. Dick-Bert mentioned something about knowing where infielders were positioned. Unfortunately I wasn't really paying enough attention to see what happened.
  8. Managed to knock out Correia. What left-handed pitcher will be coming in?
  9. At least Diamond doesn't open up a vein. Keeps the bleeding to a minimum.
  10. Have to be impressed by Diamond's composure.
  11. Thx. Unfortunately he's due for a bad outing and Dozier didn't help him there.
  12. Missed all of the 1st inning except the last ground out. What's up with Diamond?
  13. Thanks for the link. Enjoyed getting several different perspectives him.
  14. I don't think that any of the relievers alone will bring back a "decent starting pitching" prospect but I also hope that the front office is smart enough to be thinking about packages rather than one-for-one. They have a lot of hard work to do and if one of Perkins or Burton has to be part of the puzzle, I have no problem with it. (As far as I'm concerned there isn't a single player on this team who should be "safe" from a trade although I recognize that no trade clauses come into play. That doesn't mean that they should do something stupid or hold a fire sale but it does mean that they should be thinking creatively.)
  15. Can't disagree with anything you say. Given that Revere is only 24, I would expect his power to develop somewhat over the next few seasons (although I doubt he'll ever be a real power hitter). He also brings a spark and enthusiasm that often seems missing from this team. He is one of the least of the Twins problems right now. And given his highlight reel catches and captivating grin (he has SO much positive energy and that grin is infectious), I have to think that he is one of the few players on the team that may actually put b*tts in the seats.
  16. I hope Plouffe gets POM -- and I hope its because his next 11/12 days are as productive as his first 18. But I do recognize that the month is only 2/3's over. Still quite a bit of baseball to be played.
  17. I'm all in favor of trading anybody who can bring back good starting pitching prospects (or better yet, a proven starting pitcher). Except for last year's disastrous bullpen, the Twins have pretty consistently shown that they are able to put together a decent BP from minor leaguers, free agent pickups and the scrapheap (and do it at a reasonable price). I don't have any reason to doubt that the "Ryan/Gardenhire/Anderson/minor league pitching coaches group" will be able to maintain that tradition. Their success with the bullpen directly contrasts with a dearth of successful starting pitching. Something HAS to give. It's unrealistic to think that they are going to be able to put together a decent starting staff solely from FA pickups. If Perkins or Burton or Capps (or anyone else) has to be a part of a deal to get some "better than mediocre" starting pitching to Minnesota, then so be it.
  18. Oh, and my recollection is that it was Cuddyer who was the lead spokesman on this issue (and called it a safety hazard) but in all honesty, even at the time I felt like he was just "carrying water" as the de facto team leader.
  19. Thanks for posting the pic, John. My suggestion to Major League Baseball: Make improving that eye sore (or sore eye?) a condition of awarding the All Star game to TF.
  20. Thanks for the summaries. It seems to me like there was another incident recently where someone ran through a sign at third but I can't remember who it was. Can someone refresh my memory? Just interested to see if this is a "Plouffe gaffe" or if Liddle needs to be more obvious. (Very glad that it didn't cause them to go yet another inning.)
  21. Braun, Plouffe’s off-season workout compatriot Despite your analysis of the changes in his swing and how happy I am for Plouffe, that clause gives me a queasy feeling. The Brewers were being pretty cautious with Plouffe. Makes me wonder why the Twins don't employ the same strategy from time to time. I did appreciate the one Braun AB where they were jamming him on the inside part of the plate. And, it was yet another day of seeing offensive impotence when the opposing pitcher is better than mediocre.
  22. Thanks for taking the time to post (today and past columns) and for sharing your thoughts and experiences. All the best ot you.
  23. Fair enough ... but I still expect more from paid columnists. It seems to me that there should be analysis and insight. Sometimes Souhan offers that .... and sometimes it is pretty apparent that he is just trying to elicit page views (can't point out specific examples but I have called him out on it from time to time in my own comments on the Strib.)
  24. I don't dislike him but his columns often seem "lazy" to me -- designed primarily to elicit comments rather than to impart useful information or analysis. Not an uncommon affliction but it does seem like "paid journalists" should do more than that.
  25. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I'm content to watch. If by some chance they can win at that .600 clip, it will make for a more enjoyable summer of watching baseball. BUT -- and this is a huge BUT for me -- I do not want them to be caught up in that "neverland" that THEY thought they were in last summer at the trade deadline. Fortunately there is a lot of time before decisions have to be made. Let's revisit this discussion in another month.
