  1. Brock, I suppose there's just not room to have the text to the side of the avatar instead of over it?
  2. I didn't look at it with an ipad or phone but when I look at it in the Metro browser, it lays out nicely (although the IE10 problem is still there). Overall, it does look cleaner than the old site. Mike, I think you need to play with the zoom a little until you get used to something that feels good to you. I'm used to having my zoom at about 150% (old eyes) but the new site looks better at about 100% - 125%. The font doesn't seem different to me but it does seem a bit bigger -- playing with zoom alleviated that feeling of "too big". But when Mike says that the forums section looks "scrunched up", I think that has to do with the relationship of the avatars and text. The avatars are nice for immediately recognizing who posted the thread (if the person used an avatar) but they do add to a more cluttered feeling -- even in FF or Chrome. Since they are only on the left side of the title, it gives a bit of a feeling of conflict or clutter or something being wrong. And it emphasizes the person who made the original post whereas I think most people are more likely to check for the person who made the last post. While I think people will get used to it, I'm just not sure it adds much to have the avatar for the original poster and I can see Mikes point about clutter in the forum section.
  3. No, it isn't fixed. And when I tried to click on the link to this thread from the homepage, I got a message about long-running script. When I clicked stop script, the page opened.
  4. Just to clarify the issue, though, the avatar covers the left side of the title in IE10 when you are on the home page or reading an article. In the forum pages, the title does go on top of the avatar but the avatar is only partially faded (not really translucent).
  5. Thanks. I'll just use FF or Chrome for now - no big deal except for new users. Just want to add that I like the color coding on the thumbnails on the forum page. Nice to be able to tell at a glance what threads I've responded to -- and to separate out articles, off-site articles and regular threads. I also like the alt feature that lets me see the first few lines of a regular post -- kind of a mini-preview of the author's mood. I am a little curious about why the regular article thumbnails go gray when that thread is read and none of the others change. (But it is just curiosity so you don't need to rush to respond). Oh, and the good thing is that I got my paragraphs back with the upgrade.
  6. With IE 10 on the front page, the avatars are not translucent and partially cover up the left side of the title of articles, etc. in the bar on the right side. On this page, the title is over the top of the avatar but it is still difficult to read. I tried playing with both my resolution and my zoom (under view) but neither helped to resolve the problem. In Chrome they are more faded so the title stands out against the avatar and is quite legible. Have to go explore the new look a little more but other than that, what I've seen so far looks great. Congrats.
  7. I don't know that anyone is talking about CONSISTENTLY winning in the playoffs. But I (and a few others) darn well think that being competitive in the playoffs means winning some games, if not series. And my aging mind has a hard time remembering that last playoff win despite the numerous appearances in the 2000's.
  8. Sweet Drew hopes the WBC never ends.
  9. And Colabello with a 3 run HR today.
  10. Yeah, Colabello! Step right up with Butera. Twins are getting it done for Italy. (3 Run HR)
  11. My dissatisfaction with the Twins probably includes something from each of those elements (not much of #4, though) but overall, my major complaint is just that they seem stuck in a rut to me. Even with the changes in the coaching staff, I have no faith that TR will ever take enough risks (or risk enough money) to really build a team that can contend with the very best in the league. And while I believe that Gardenhire's even keel philosophy has been very beneficial in the regular season, I find it impossible to see him as a good post-season motivator or leader. And maybe that ties into my Mauer complaint as well, I'm just not sure that if this is "Joe Mauer's team" they'll ever have that post-season success (his personality works for him - I'm just not sure his leadership works for the team). Overall, these probably aren't factors to worry about for the next couple of years anyway but I just don't have any faith that this leadership can ever build or lead a team that truly has prospects of post-season success. (As for the money thing, it makes me angry that they cut the budget as much as they did this year -- even though I don't see the team competing, they do seem to owe it to the fans and taxpayers to put the best team they can afford on the field -- and from everything we've seen, they can afford more than $75-$80 million).
  12. Thanks for the update, Nick. Disappointing to miss Hicks' big day but the way he's been hitting, maybe he'll put on a show for you tonight.
  13. It was a fun game to watch -- nothing like a little late inning drama to whet the appetite for regular season ball.
  14. Sounds like you'll be having a really fun Sunday.
  15. Seems like every game I'm seeing on mlbnetwork has former Twins. Some of those teams almost seem more recognizable than the 2013 Twins (at least until we see them on TV a few times).
  16. Are people actually watching these games somewhere (other than in person). mlbtv.com? Just curious -- and wondering why the Phillies have been mlb network for 3 times in the last 4 days (I think) -- all except the game with the Twins.
  17. Was Cuddyer already an ex-Twin when his girls were born? Congrats to the Mauers (and it does look promising for them to have at least 1 boy given Joe & his brothers).
  18. Congrats to the Mauers. Of course, they could be like the Cuddyers have have 2 girls! Ah, but then they could be the first females to break the gender barrier in the mlb.
  19. I use an ignore button when it comes to anything Dave St. Peter says. I don't care for the smell of manure.
  20. Tell me again why he didn't get a call-up in September? Seems to me he was back from his broken leg before that. Maybe his injury meant he hadn't "earned" the call-up during last season ... but his overall minor league career with the Twins certainly should have merited a call-up in September. I write that one off to the cheapness of the Twins (just another building block in my dissatisfaction with this organization).
  21. I'm not sure this is true. There still seems to me to be a difference between maintaining a steady course and holding a team together over the long course of the season and having a team that is built to win in shorter playoff series. I've thought about this a lot with regard to Gardenhire and why I think he's generally been a good regular season manager and yet had little playoff success. I think the Twins usually select players who have (or will develop) a conviviality with one another that allows them to function well over the course of a long season -- basically creating a team that (hopefully) won't implode due to personality conflicts (and I do think that may have led to "overachieving" during the regular season at times). But I also think that may lead to a team that is on too much of an "even keel" when they reach the playoffs -- and when they may need a player or two to get under other players' skins and to motivate when time is of the essence. I don't have any proof of this -- I'm just not sure that a team built to make the playoffs is NECESSARILY (or as you say, by definition) built to win a championship (and I think this may be especially true in the A.L. Central).
  22. I don't think I engage in, or have engaged in, much of the "bad" behavior but there is something about the list with "good" and "bad" that seems stifling to me. I hope that we are seeing this posted again -- and pinned to the top -- because you are anticipating an influx of new posters as the new season starts. I hope it isn't because you are finding it necessary to again try to control the people who have been posting here on a regular basis. To some extent I think people have to use an "ignore" button -- either literally on the site or a mental one. It SHOULD be a fun place to post and to converse with other Twins fans and I would hope that everyone approaches the site with a sense of humor and some tolerance for differing opinions -- after all, while most posters here are fairly rabid fans, none of this is life or death (or frankly all that important in the overall scheme of what should be important in anyone's life).
  23. Well, I went back and looked at the records of many of the long term coaches named in twinsnorth49's post. 2 things jumped out at me: 1. most (if not all) did not have the same mid to late-career abysmal failure that Gardenhire has had the last 2 years (they were some downward trends but nothing like the win-loss % Gardenhire has had); and 2. Many of them did not have significantly more than Gardenhire's current 11 seasons with one team. And when they did have several consecutive down seasons, it looks like many of them either resigned or were fired.
  24. And why not consider hiring someone from OUTSIDE the organization? Culture change.
