  1. "What do I like? Whopping the Twins …" Ortiz said of the team that released him after the 2002 season. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2014_05_13_bosmlb_minmlb_1&mode=wrap#gid=2014_05_13_bosmlb_minmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=bos
  2. Was trying to decide whether to watch the season finale of Criminal Minds or the game during the 8:00 hour .... I think KC has decided for me.
  3. Interesting analysis. It actually doesn't surprise me too much about Gardy. How many times have people screamed (figuratively) in chat for Gardy to hand out an IBB (looking at your ABs, David Ortiz and Miguel Cabrera)? Always the chance that somebody will come up behind them and make the IBB a bad choice but it seems like there are a handful of players where an IBB might be advisable at times.
  4. The Bartlett decision was not Gardenhire's alone. He had an enabler in the front office. (That is the part that should be of most concern).
  5. I watched the end but didn't stay long enough to comment. I hope Chris Parmelee can have a break-out season a la Dozier2013 -- and I gotta love that Parms looks like a refugee from the Dukes of Hazzard (love that hair).
  6. Looking a little dice-y here.
  7. Now's the time for Bert to say "Cr*p".
  8. Unfortunately Boston has a real centerfielder.
  9. Those virtual reality TV screens are a b*tch.
  10. Question: Do people actually watch hockey?
  11. We better hope that nobody manages to get on ahead of him.
  12. Caught up. I'll have a reuben on wheat instead of rye. Hold the corned beef, hold the sauerkraut, hold the dressing. Just call me Jack N.
  13. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 14m Five easiest to strike out: Kubel (one every 2.93 plate appearances), Jason Castro, Chris Carter, Rasmus, JUpton (with B.J. right behind). Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 14m Five players most difficult to strike out: Victor Martinez (one every 20.29 plate appearances), Kurt Suzuki, Kinsler, Altuve, Simmons. Does this mean Kubel and Suzuki cancel each other out?
  14. I don't know what impact he is having on hitting but I do find it interesting that he is seemingly receptive to advanced metrics and has a real interest in finding out what Jack Goin et. al. can provide: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/min/hall-of-famer-paul-molitor-preparing-for-role-as-twin-coach?ymd=20140113&content_id=66545260&vkey=news_min http://msn.foxsports.com/north/story/molitor-working-to-improve-twins-defensive-positioning-030214
  15. I read the same thing -- he asked to be taken out. And here is the link: http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_25734106/twins-2-tiger-1-phil-hughes-continues-his
  16. I just went back and read a bunch of what was written about the Hughes signing. I would not say "widely derided nationally". There was skepticism as would be expected. Most of that skepticism surrounded the fact that the contract was for 3 years not the amount per year. Pretty hard to assess whether those criticisms are fair 6 weeks into the first season of the deal.
  17. Seeing that Kubel isn't in the line-up again today, I'm thinking that they really did think his legs needed a rest.
  18. Yes, I did. And I loved this story about his faith in action: http://msn.foxsports.com/north/story/faith-first-for-twins-rising-dozier-020214 That's the type of "testimonial" I prefer. (And that doesn't mean that non-Christians can't and don't do wonderful service projects. It's just that I prefer to see people put their efforts -- and their money -- in action instead of mere words.)
  19. Legs. How much does Kubel's increasing play in the field contribute to his declining value at the plate? I'm not good at manipulating the stats but it sure seems like he's been in the field a lot more recently than he was the first couple weeks of the season. Edit: Okay, I found something on BRef that makes it look like he has played 29 games out of 32 in the OF (26 in LF and 3 in RF) -- so he has actually been on the field a lot more than I thought. I still wonder if part of his problem is that his legs need a break. Edit 2: And it looks like he will get a break today at least. Nunez in left and Mauer at DH.
  20. Didn't expect to win the 1st one! Great going.
  21. If "like" deserves a steak dinner, what does love get you???? (Keep it clean ...)
  22. So I see Buxton's wrist has flared up again..... Hate tos ee it linger.
