  1. Not as bad as if it were 101 degrees.
  2. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger 7m Anthony Swarzak is back out there for the fifth inning. He's at 61 pitches. His previous season high was 52. Still tied 1-1. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 47m Swarzak on spot start: "I’ve never been a big pitch count guy, so I’ll leave it at that. I’m going to throw until I can’t throw anymore." Don't know what the manager has in mind.
  3. Thanks for the link, Seth. Berrios just seems so calm and composed to me. I suppose that varies somewhat but it was the thing that struck me most in his Futures Game appearance. They must have done a great job of getting him to channel his energies.
  4. David Dorsey has an interesting story on Tim Shibuya: http://www.news-press.com/story/sports/2014/07/22/miracle-pitcher-tim-shibuya-excels-fielding/13029729/ Tim Shibuya, 24, fields his position better than anyone, said multiple coaches and talent evaluators within the Minnesota Twins organization. ... “Tim Shibuya one of the best fielding pitchers I’ve ever seen, including in the majors — in all of my days. In all of my days,” Lucas said, stressing the word “all.” “I was fortunate enough to see Jim Kaat. I was fortunate enough to see Kenny Rogers. I’m probably leaving somebody else out, but as far as professional pitchers go, Tim Shibuya is right there with them. He just has a savvy and feel for doing the little things. Tim Shibuya is in the right place 99 percent of the time.” Pretty high praise for his fielding. The article also does a good job of discussing his route to pro ball. Wonder if that 50 or 60 days of off-season skiing gets curtailed if he reaches the majors?
  5. Except that he could have held out for a no trade clause as part of that team friendly contract -- and yet apparently his clause is limited to 3 teams. Maybe they have a "gentleman's agreement" that he wouldn't be traded in the first year or two. If so, then violating that would be unethical even if it is a verbal, not written, agreement. But I don't think that just because it is a "team friendly contract", there would be anything particularly unethical (and certatinly not immoral or even slimey) about trading him barring some other mutually agreed upon understanding. I do think there might have been some "handshake" agreement on not trading him (at least not early) because Perkins sounds very confident that he won't be traded. I also want to point out that when this extension was signed, there were a number of posters on this board pointing out that it wasn't a particularly "team friendly deal." I agree that he would not have done the deal with anyone but the Twins but it was also Glen who pursued the extension not the team so would any other team have even offered it to him?
  6. Night everyone. 14 hours til they do it again.
  7. Pretty sure Cleveland blew the raspberry at the Twins.
  8. 12:10 p.m. tomorrow on mlb network. No Dick/Bert?
  9. I had one out west a few years ago but it just didn't seem the same. I don't know if that's because it really tasted different or because I wanted it to take me back to my childhood. I remember the first time my parents took my younger siblings to Shakey's (for some reason by older sister and I weren't along) -- my little sister came home and said "and you can make all the noise you want!"
  10. Every now and then I have a hankering for a Shakey's Special.
  11. I think it was in August 1967. At Met Stadium and I really just remember being overwhelmed by the experience and getting to see Killebrew and Oliva and everyone else I'd seen only on TV. I do have some recollection of Mudcat Grant pitching and the Twins losing.
  12. Actually, crab cakes sound good, too.
  13. Well, since I have no raspberries and I hate to bake when its hot despite the A/C and I live 15 miles from a grocery store, I guess I'll just have to enjoy your calorie-less version.
  14. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 3m For the fourth time in five games since the break, #MNTwins trail 3-0 within the first 3 innings. Not something we really want to pursue.
  15. I just learned something I never knew before .... they have GameDay for minor league games. Went to look at the Rock Cats score and discovered I could click on GameDay: http://www.milb.com/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2014_07_22_altaax_nbraax_1&mode=gameday Rosario having a great night .... 2 HR and a double.
  16. I'll settle for that strike-out and a DP!
  17. Just a little more oomph there, Dozier!
