  1. Very well stated, there was no proof whatsoever that any assault occurred. It was literally twitter vs facts/proof. That isn't to say that nothing did happen, it very well may have, but again no proof, and without proof you can't just take away a guys livelihood (especially for something years prior) when he has no means to defend himself more or less. People bring up the minor league ballpark workers and are shaming Sano, while yes, maybe he was a bit creepy/unprofessional in some cases, it's important to note that he was still a young kid, basically the same age as a kid in college. It's also important to note that pro (and even college players) have women throwing themselves at them left and right, and like most people have good/fair/harmless intentions, of course some do not (a small minority), it can sometimes be tough especially for a young man who is from a different culture to know what is 'right' and what approaches 'the line' sometimes. I think the key in moving fwd is educating all young athletes about both sides of the coin, as relationships, sex etc are rarely black and white and have lots of shades of gray in between. Also the key is that he was a young man when this happened, people mature, people grow. Look at Molitor for instance, when all the news of his rampant cocaine use (including during games) came out it seemed to be an eye opener for him and he cleaned his act up, became a role model and eventually a hall of famer. I'd hate to see what twitter/internet culture would have said about Molitor if he was playing in 2017 and got busted for using blow and having it on his person during a game. Basically, I'm all for (and yes happy) that Sano is getting a second chance, even though he very well may not have done anything 'illegal'/'wrong' in the first place. Hopefully he is able to learn from this, and hopefully his accuser finds peace.
  2. There won't be protests, people will move on like they always do (and should do). And it's sports, this team still honors Puckett left and right while conveniently ignoring his issues. Re: this 'story' I was very suspect about this story from the start, when no other real accusations came out I was even more suspect (sorry, but a 20 year old hitting on ushers at a baseball stadium is not a crime...maybe a bit creepy, and unprofessional, but not a crime) I'm glad they can put this story/issue behind them, whether or not the incident happened (and to what degree) I do hope the accuser finds peace.
  3. It's not 1.35 million though. A significant amount of that 750k signing bonus likely went to agents, academies etc His 600k salary gets a decent chunk taken away as well by agent, legal etc as well. After all that gets taken away and taxes, I'm guessing he 'got' less than 600k total. Yeah that's good for a 24 year old, but keep in mind that at any point he could or could have suffered a career ending injury. The idea that he is set for life because of one year at minimum pay and a very modest signing bonus is a little naive.
  4. Jorge Polanco including signing bonus and minor league salary has only made 1.35 million. That really isn't much once you factor in taxes, agent, legal etc etc
  5. Why have a sensible policy when you can just have one that screams 'see! We are punishing people!' without actually fixing the problem whatsoever. A zero tolerance drug policy is so stupid, and punishes unfairly any player that comes from or plays in the D.R.
  6. Of course they know/ don’t care. Also pretty sure that for every one player caught 5-6 get away scot Free. But the ban list is far too long, and the first time offense is stupid as well. First should be a warning and placement into drug testing platform (8-10 times a year for next 5 years) 2nd should be a suspension. This would eliminate the ‘accidental’ ones met likely.
  7. Yeah the union needs to improve in that area, and to stop collusion as well amongst the owners.
  8. The mlb “performance enhancing drug” rules are stupid and unfair. Between this nonsense and collusion this off season the players definitely need to strike.
  9. 130 ops+ 38 hr Low risk high upside contract Nothing to not like about this signing.
  10. Morrison also can play LF/RF If Rosario or Kepler get Hurt. Wouldn’t be ideal as it would be a downgrade defensively, but he actually isn’t that bad. Plus the other two can hide any decencies. Also this allows you to potentially trade Kepler for pitching etc Anyways it’s a brilliant move.
  11. Doubt Vargas would get us much of anything in a trade.
  12. Granite is the clear choice for 4th Of since he can play good D. Grossman probably doesn’t have a spot on this roster anymore with the Morrison signing.
  13. 6.5 million for a guy who should hit 30-35 bombs? Money well spent. And insurance for Mauer if he leaves after this year. Plus by adding another bat it allows the Twins to potentially trade another bat later on.
  14. You never know. I'm sure he realized when he signed with the Twins that he was a long shot to make the roster out of ST with all the depth and solid players they have a 2B/SS/3B etc Maybe he is looking into a post playing career gig, like coaching or something. Anyways, the point is, if he wanted to make a big league roster immediately the Twins weren't one of his better options IMO, and he probably realized that. So let's see what happens. Or maybe Polanco is on the block or something else? Meh, I dunno.
  15. Yeah that was an insanely smart deal for the Red Sox, really no downside at all even if he is a bench player.
  16. Or he could agree to goto AAA of course and help mentor guys. And if someone goes down for ten games or so he could come up to the majors and play a depth role if need be (like 10 games, 1 start, a couple at bats etc instead of maybe calling up a youngster with upside and having him ride the pine) Can never have enough MI depth IMO.
  17. Meh, I view this as just depth/insurance in case someone gets injured in ST or Sano gets suspended for a couple weeks. Also never hurts to have a veteran leadership in ST to maybe help coach/teach the youngsters. If it was a major league deal or he was taking someone's spot I would be upset, but this is hard to get too worked up about at all. Chargois throws hard, and dominated AAA somewhat, but clearly the Twins think he won't stick in the majors.. the MLB is littered with guys like that, additionally pretty sure the Dodgers have the last waiver claim spot, which means he almost passed through. Guessing the Twins can reclaim him in a week or two when the Dodgers ditch him anyways.
  18. I want to like Mejia, but nothing he has done thus far has made me feel like he can be anything more than a 'cheap' option at #5 (until he becomes expensive) That's not really a knock on him as guys like that sometimes have solid 6-10 year careers bouncing around and making decent money over a career, as much as it is: the Twins should always be looking to get a better SP option than him if they want to compete.
  19. Yeah, David Price had a lot to do with that as well. I think overall the Rays have always had some pretty damn good pitching, their weakness seemingly year in and year out has been offense.
  20. I still want them to go after Archer or another 'top of the rotation guy' But the trade for Odorizzi is much better than overpaying for a guy like Lynn, Arrieta or Cobb on the FA market. HOWEVER with that said, I still think you try to see if you can get one of those guys in on a team friendly deal. I wonder if Arrieta at this stage would be interested in a one year, 18 million (prove it) type of deal?
  21. Why? He has been solid since he entered the league, he is a 3/4 imo. Great trade though.
  22. Is signing Sanchez a bad break or just a bad signing? jk...sorta
  23. Not sure if Falvine/Levine are to blame, or the ownership. Guessing it's a little from column A and a lot from column B. Either way it's disappointing and not only am I canceling my season ticket package, but debating on just 'borrowing' MLB.TV package from a friend this year as well. If they won't commit money, I won't commit money.
  24. Well for one thing I lived in the DFW area for 3 years, so yes, I am well aware of the population, and I even made mention that 'big market' wasn't really put forth in JUST terms of population. But Dallas isn't perceived in the same way as NY, LA, Chicago or even Houston IMO. Either way the Twins and Rangers basically have the same revenue anyways. Most people outside of Texas view Dallas as just 'a city in the south'
