  1. Herman was a 6th round pick of the Twins in 2008 out of West Delaware High School in Manchester, Iowa. In 2012, Hermsen pitched mostly at AA New Britain and compiled a 12-6 record with a 2.88 ERA. This year, Hermsen competed in Spring Training with the Twins and then was reassigned back to New Britain. This year has been somewhat of a struggle. Hermsen started for Rock Cats this afternoon against Matt LeCroy's Harrisburg squad and was tagged with the loss. Hermsen pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up 5 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4. Hermsen's 2013 record dropped to 0-2 wih a 4.91 ERA.
  2. Since I didn't get someone the first time, how about Corey Williams and BJ Hermsen?
  3. I agree, war too early but a pleasant surprise. Keep it up for a half season and use him for trade bait
  4. I'd give Benson a shot.
  5. I'm sure Ervin Santana will not have his option picked up. He was dealing in the second half last year, but has had a terrible year. Usually a 2 to 1 K/BB guy. Also, the Dodgers have 5 or 6 starters under contract. I wonder if they move Billingsley for a 1B. He is locked up for a couple more years, but has had injury problems I think a JA Happ or Jair Jurrjens would be in the same mold the TWins might look at.
  6. Agreed, just like a closer with a blown save.
  7. I'd say keep Morneau. I think if he does return to form, next year at the deadline he would be worth a lot, or we could try to extend him with a two-year deal if he keeps this up. How much value does a Parmalee have with his killing the AAA leagues? Would the Pirates or Brewers be willing to give up a starter? Morneau probably can't get us a starter, but I bet you that Parmalee could.
  8. I think bringing Morneau back on a 2 year deal would be a good idea. The Brewers need a 1b and CF, maybe we could pry Gallardo away from them who is under team control for three more years while the Brewers are in full rebuilding mode.
  9. COunt me as excited if they are going to promote faster.

    ISO Starters - Angels

I thought I'd try my hand at a post by starting with a topic I've been looking for some time. We all know the Rwins need starting pitching and we've discussed the free agents a bunch. I thought I would look at some starters that may be available via trade or by not having their options picked up. First team up, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels payroll for this year is around $151 million. In 2013, the Angels have approximately $93 million committed to payroll. The Angela have two starters under contract in 2013, Jared Weaver at $16 million and CJ Wilson at $11.5 million. Zack Greinke is a free agent who would cost at least $20 million to sign. Dan Haren has a Club option for $15.5 million and Ervin Santana has a club option worth $11.5 million. I think the Angels will pay Santana the $1 million buyout. But what about Dan Haren? The Angels still have the hideous $24 million to pay for two more years for Vernon Wells. Also, Albert Pujols salary jumps from $16 million to $23 million in 2014. So signing a pitcher aka Greinke long term could really push the payroll towards the limit, especially in 2014. If you sign Greinke and pick up Haren's option you have at least $63 million to 4 starters in 2013. With Torii coming off the books, the Angels need another OF, 3b (Trumbo is a DH), are in need of a catcher and their bullpen is either old or ineffective and needs replacing. A Mike Napoli would cost at least $10 million, plus a decent replacement for Torii would cost $5 to $10 million and that still leaves 3B and the bullpen. So is Haren worth $15.5 million and/or should the Angels exercise the option? Haren will turn 32 in September and has logged at least 216 innings from 2005-2011. Hitters are also hitting .281 against him this year. Even with Arte Moreno's money, I decline Haren's option and concentrate on other areas of need as the innings are catching up with him and I have to many other needs. So, on my opinion, the starting pitchers in the offseason will include Santana and Haren. Santana is just the type of guy the Twins could try, someone coming off a bad year but still has good stuff. The 30-year old has an ERA of 5.5 this year and his K/BB ratio is less than 2 to 1 for the first time in the recent past has to be concerning. However, he was lights out in the second half of last year, and even with his horrid year, the league is still only hitting .259 against him. I think he could be had on a 2-year $10 to $12 million a year. At that price, I think the Twins should pursue. As for Haren, I don't think he'd be in the Twins rang, but it would be good to widen the field of available starters can only help the Twins.

  12. My gosh, people need to step away from the edge, it's going to take a couple of years
  13. We would have really been screwed if we signed those guys long term. Now we will have payroll flexibility. I like our lineup 1-7. I think Morneau is coming around. Everybody knows we need pitching, but in one offseason we picked. Up Willingham and Doumit to solidify the lineup. I look forward to watching this team every day, unlike last year's pathetic display
  14. I live in SE Iowa and Yankton never carries afternoon games, even when they were winning division titles
  15. Terry Ryan is my man.
  16. That's great to hear, but TR is not going to spend just to spend. We will have more coming off after 2013. I like what TR is doing, although I'm probably in the minority.
  17. Picked off counts as a caught stealing, so if he was picked off 3 times, then he would be 12 of 15 in actual attempts, 80%.
  18. Sure he didn't deny he was being traded to the Reds?
  19. Edwin Jackson since he fired Scott Boras
  20. Jones is off to a great start to his pro career. He started the season at E-Town and pitched six scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits and 4 BBs while striking out 9. Jones was then promoted to Beloit. In 2 games for the Snappers, he has pitched three scoreless innings, giving up 2 hits and striking out 7 without a walk. Jones also picked up a save for the Snappers. This hard thrower is living up to the high draft picks the Twins spent on him.
  21. After starting off the season well, Pat Dean is spinning his wheels He stands at 6-6 with a 3.89 record. He doesn't miss bats though. With 120.1 innings pitched, he has given up 138 hits and walked 24 while striking out only 60. He has been a workhorse, but at 23, he may be falling out of prospect range.
  22. Brew Crew gave up a ton to KC, I think Angels got better of deal
  23. According to Ken Rosenthal
  24. No problem dealing Perk or Burton Orioles looking for a LH reliever, so package him with Frankie
  25. Orioles, for one of Arreita, Matusz or Tillman and some B prospects.
