  1. I'd like to see him at 1st base, we have enough outfielders. I'd like to get a power guy on first and we're thin there.
  2. I thought Merck was a senior, where's he gonna go?
  3. I don't get drafting a bunch of relievers, it hasn't worked in the past, why would it work now? The guy from rice isn't even the closer on his team and is probably the 3rd or 4th best pitcher on his team. Wasted picks, wasted opportunities. This is becoming so common it's not even funny. However I do like the Brett-Walker pick, he has a lot of power. Passing on Brown, Lovegrove, and Buttrey could come back to bite us although they may all 3 go to college. I want high upside guys at this point in the draft, not a bunch of Billy Bullocks who will probably fizzle out in AA. Seriously have ANY of these early round relievers worked out for us?
  4. It's funny because I was really high on McCullers and Correa and really down on Appel. This morning here in Houston the sports talk guys were having a fit by passing up the "sure thing" in Appel for a 17 year old and they didn't like McCullers because he was gonna be expensive and his dad was just ok. It's interesting the reactions in different places
  5. Guys I like at 63 and 72: Mitch Brown, Kieren Lovegrove, Ty Buttrey, Peter O'Brian, Adam Brett-Walker, RJ Alverez, Wyatt Mathisen, Nolan Fontana, Brett Moonyham, and Nolan Sandburn (I'm assuming that Hunter Virant is unsignable) are just a few names that have jumped out at me. I'm assuming though that it's gonna be some Juco OF that none of us have heard of(and will probably end up being the equivalent of Jason Pridie) I guess I've been a Twins fan too long.....
  6. mlb.com has him at 51 and Sickles had him at 29 I think. I'm hoping for Brown and Brett-Walker tomorrow......that means it won't happen
  7. Does the Bard pick remind anyone else of Bashore? I hope he doesn't go the same route.
  8. I'm really disappointed, I hope they think brown will still be there in the second.
  9. I liked Berrios but with McCullers on the board I'm a little disappointed. I guess McCullers was a hard sign. Smoral would've been good too but he's probably a hard sign too and may end up have injury problems. The thing about Berrios that scares me is mayo says he might not get that much better, sounds like a reliever to me. Hopefully he works out though. Man, Plawecki and Light gone already, I liked both those guys, bummer. Here's to Mitch Brown at 42!
  10. I'm still hoping for Buxton/Correa, Stroman, Brown in the first, lofty hopes I know. Giolito falling to 32 woul be cool too!
  11. Does anyone know if it will be available to be watched online? I don't have cable and i'd rather not go to a bar to watch the draft.
  12. I feel like there is going to be a high college arm that will drop to #32, there always seems to be one, possibly Stroman or Watcha. I'm hoping for that and then Brown at 42, wishful thinking I guess.
  13. Gibson is a #2 ceiling but more than likely #3, Wimmers will be a #3 tops. The only one we have that has ace potential is Liriano but that hasn't quite happened. An ace should be dominant with lots of Ks, really an ace should have the potential to have a shut out at any time, anyone who is a pitch to contact pitcher can't be relied on as an ace. The only true Ace we have had in the past 20 years has been Santana, Radke doesn't count.
  14. I'm with you, really bad feeling about Appel. Even if he is ok I see his ceiling as Luke Hochevar, not terrible but not worth a #1 or #2 overall pick.
  15. I'm gonna try and shake things up because you know there will be some wild cards: Houston- Mark Appel SP Minnesota- Byron Buxton OF Seattle- Carlos Correa SS Baltimore- Kevin Gausman SP Kansas City- Lucus Giolito SP Chicago- Courtney Hawkins OF San Diego- Max Fried SP Pitt- Mike Zunino C Miami- Lance McCullers Jr. SP Colorado- Stryker Trehan C
  16. I've actually heard his third pitch is good and I think the control issues are over played, he has less walks than Appel, he's just thrown more than average wild pitches. Zimmer's velocity scares me off and I think it will scare the twins off too
  17. I'll take a shot at 2014: SP Gibson Diamond Hendricks Hermsen Gausman/Appel/FA(Garza?) RP Gutierrez Waldrop Guerra Swarzak Manship Robinson Perkins(Closer) Line Up RF - Span CF - Hicks C - Mauer LF - Willingham DH - Morneau 3B - Sano SS - Dozier 1B - Parmelee 2B - Michael Bench OF/INF - Plouffe OF - Revere C - Chris Hermann INF - Florimon Just a shot in the dark, this could probably all change if they decide to blow up the roster this summer but I'm going on the basis that they won't and won't be really active in free agency either just as the twins do.
  18. I would realistically be happy with the top 5 to be: 2. Kevin Gausman 32. Mitch Brown 42. Adam Brett-Walker 64. Kevin Plawecki or Peter O'Brian 72. Pat Light or Kieran Lovegrove I think that provides I solid mix of players. We have a college pitcher with upside and the ability to move quickly. A high school pitcher who has high upside. A college bat who might have the best power in the draft. A college catcher who can move quickly and stick at the position. And the last pick is either a safe college pitcher who could move quickly or a project guy with lots of potential. Obviously there are lots of guys I like but I found this draft to be well rounded, it's only missing a high school bat. Other players I like are Buxton, Giolito, Correa, Ty Buttery, Mitch Nay, Clint Colture, Addison Russel, Smoral, Hunter Virant, J.O. Berrios, and Nick Travieso
  19. Definitely is a strong word, I prefer Giolito but those 2 seem pretty solid. I was down on Buxton early because he sounded like Carlos Gomez 2.0 but after reading some more stuff on him I'm warming up to the idea. Correa has looked solid for a while and I don't understand why he is not higher on most boards.
  20. That puts Oakes right around 8th round talent level. What you're failing to realize is that the Twins will draft him several rounds earlier than that because A. they like local guys and will over draft them and B. he will sign for under slot which is more important than ever with the new CBA. I would love Plawecki in the 2nd round, would be a great pick up, but expect Oakes in round 4 or 5.
  21. Bingo! I don't think Giolito is unsignable at #2 though, his dad has been touting him on twitter and releasing pictures and video showing he is healthy right before the draft. If he goes in the top 6ish he is signable, after that is where it gets sticky, I've heard he wants at least 4 million (I can't remember where I heard that)
  22. Michael has settled down into his old self, actually better. He hasn't allowed a hit in his last 2 appearances pitching 2 innings each with 7 Ks. He brought his ERA down to 1.65 and he now has 10.3 K/9. He should be in line for a promotion as a 22 year old in low A.
  23. Hensley could very well be gone but you never know, Shooter Hunt was projected to go 10-15 in 2008 and he fell to us (although now we know why). I'm personally hoping for Smoral anyways. As far as Buttery goes I brought him up because I've heard he's had a lot of helium as of late and some people are projecting him as a late first rounder. I haven't seen or heard a lot and I thought you guys may have. Great series though.
  24. What are your thoughts on the Ty's, Ty Hansly and Ty Buttery? I've heard a lot about Buttery that he could be a top of the order guy in the Mussina mold(probably because of the knuckle curve) although there is a lot of debate on his ranking, I've seen him as high as late first round and as low as third round. Hansly has had his stock rise over the past few weeks but his delivery scares me, he is all arm and that could mean potential injury problems down the road. Do you guys see either of these guys at 32 or 42?
