  1. J.D. Martinez anyone? The right handed leftfielder just got released by the Astros. Had 7 homeruns last year in not many at bats. 11 homeruns and 55 rbi two years ago. Also lots of doubles. Maybe he can play center as well so we carry him as our 4th outfielder.
  2. Kendry Morales. Kendry Morales. Kendry Morales. Morales would slot into the DH spot this year and next. Put him at first on the days you need to use the DH for Mauer. They apparently like Florimon too much to even consider signing Drew so I've pretty much given up on that one.
  3. Also, if Deduno only pitches an inning or so today, that tells me he is likely starting the year in the pen. They are not setting him up at all to be the fifth starter with the way they are using him in games.
  4. I don't understand why they are hanging on to Worley and Bartlett apparently until the last day of Spring Training when both do not look like they will contribute positively at all to this team this year. Why not let them go now and get more at bats/pitches for the younger guys still with the team in Spring Training?
  5. Can Bartlett make it to 30 at bats without a hit? I think he can.
  6. Who are the other pitchers for the Twins listed for today? Haven't seen it yet. It makes no sense to me that Deduno is never scheduled to start. It makes me think they want him to start the year as a reliever so they can have one left handed starter - Diamond.
  7. So Deduno is the likely the 5th starter with Worley heading for AAA after every team passes on him. Diamond gets slotted as the long man in the bullpen. I think they still like Diamond.
  8. I just don't know if I could handle another 95 plus loss season with guys like Parmalee and Escobar getting a ton of at bats. Need to start to winning a few more games to change the losing ways around.
  9. Kendry Morales would plug in nicely into the DH spot right now. Two years $24 million could probably do it. Keep Cola as right handed bat off the bench. Try to get Parmelee through waivers and send Kubel to AAA as insurance for injuries. Won't happen, probably, but it would give us a consistent RBI guy behind Mauer and Hammer.
  10. Even if the Twins only slightly improve this year, it will be fun to watch Buxton join Hicks and Arcia in the outfield next year. They could stay together for a few years, I hope. Hicks looks really good this spring. Of course, he did last spring as well.
  11. Kubel is not doing much at all. Hard to keep Kubel and Bartlett on a team that is trying to build for 2015 and 2016.
  12. I think there is a shot Kubel makes the team just because of his contract and the fact that the Twins talked him into taking a minor league deal with them rather than a MLB deal with whatever other team was trying to sign him. Sounds to me they assured him he would make them team to get him to sign with them. That being said, I also would rather they roll with Parmalee and Colabello.
  13. Ervin Santana signs with the Braves for one year. Twins apparently tried to come in late and get him at a bargain (3 years $33 million) but failed. Still two major free agents left with qualifying offers. Stephen Drew, SS, and Kendry Morales, 1b or DH. Our presumed starting shortstop Pedro Florimon has no at bats this spring after getting his appendix removed. Our presumed DH, Jason Kubel, is 2 for 17 with one home run this spring after hitting .216 last year.
  14. I listened to Lavelle Neal's interview with ROb Anthony KFAN and did not sound to me like the Twins are out on Ervin Santana. It just sounded like Anthony didn't want to discuss a player that they may be negotiating with or may have recently negotiated with.
  15. Santana, Nolasco, Hughes, Pelfrey and Correia is about the most solid rotation we have had in years. Slot Deduno into the extra starter/5th and 6th inning man and I think we can compete in this division if we get any offense at all.
  16. Nelson Cruz looks to be on the verge of signing with the Orioles. So cross him off our list. I did see that Matt Cerone, a Mets blogger, said the Astros and the Twins are the mystery teams in on Drew. So I guess that is good news.
  17. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/02/four-teams-still-in-on-stephen-drew.html Red Sox, Mets and two mystery teams. Are we a mystery team? We have the money, the position need and it only costs us a second round pick.
  18. I guess I am still holding out a little hope they sign Drew. But I seriously doubt it will happen. I like Florimon but I just don't ever seeing him hit much more than last year.
  19. I thought it was interesting that Gardy has already talked about carrying 13 pitchers and already is saying Florimon is his shortstop.
  20. I would love for us to sign Ervin Santana at the same contract Ubaldo just got - 4 and 48 million. Its better to have too much pitching then to suffer through another rotation full of pitchers with 5 ERAs. If we signed Santana, we would still be under $100 million in payroll and we could trade someone like Correia or Gibson for some competition at shortstop for Florimon.
  21. The Dodgers just gave light hitting Cuban SS Erisbel Arruebarruena $25 million. I would say Diaz's price just went way up.
  22. I know this has been beat to death in here but I really cannot believe it if the Twins don't make a real play for Stephen Drew in the next couple of days. Now, I read where the Mets and Yankees are out on him. The Twins have a glaring hole at shortstop and Drew has no team and his dollar demands have to be dropping. How is Drew to the Twins not happening?
  23. I would hope we could replace Willingham with Hicks, Buxton, and Arcia as our future outfield. Correia and Pelfrey with Meyer, Gibson, and eventually Stewart. Suzuki with Pinto and Stuart Turner. And this team always seems to be able to find bullpen arms so I wouldn't worry about Burton and Duensing.
  24. Stephen Drew makes the most sense. I read where the Red Sox are likely out on him and the Yankees are now too. Who else is chasing him????? If they get Arroyo, I think Correa is traded for a bench bat. I would rather have Kendry Morales than Cruz. If we sign a bat other than Drew, does that mean Kubel isn't making the team as the DH? Or would he just be a pinch hitter/extra outfielder. Kubel, Willingham and Arcia rotating in the outfield would make the centerfielder's job kind of rough.
  25. I think they are probably just signing Justin Turner, a bench bat, and a minor move.
