From a purely mathematical standpoint, the Sox may be in it if they win all their games. I look at it this way. With 32-33 games to go for most teams, some team in the AL is going to get hot and go 23-10. We just don't know which one, but it happens every year. It could be some first place team that proceeds to run away with the regular season title, or some last place team that gets hot and salvages a near-.500 record. If it happens to be the White Sox, it will put their season record at 84-78. I don't think that's going to be enough wins. So for my purposes, the Sox are out of it. It would take more than just a hot final month, but a miracle.
