  1. Forcing it when it's just not there is the way to the doghouse. But putting the other team in the position of having to make the perfect play? Most often that's just good baseball.
  2. Saturday's game starting time moved up to accommodate national TV. The Twins matter!
  3. Sweet called third strike for Milone to end the inning.
  4. Prompted me to watch the entire at-bat again on YouTube tonight. Seven minutes of riveting baseball - a high level of play on nearly every pitch, including a snap throw from catcher to first (shades of Laudner in 87). I hated the Dodgers then, still basically do, but what a game, what an outcome.

  6. Yesterday late in the game thread, a question arose about whether a player could have more than 3 assists in an inning. We concluded the answer was clearly Yes, because of the way the rule is constructed (you get credit for an assist even if a subsequent error results in no out being recorded). But I couldn't quickly locate any documented instances. Well, SABR colleagues to the rescue. Here are three such instances: 4 for second base Jason Kipnis CLE 6/22/2014 (5th inning) http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CLE/CLE201406220.shtml 4 for third base Craig Grebeck White Sox, 5/2/1995 (5th inning); http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/TOR/TOR199505020.shtml 4 for shortstop Juan Uribe COL, 5/21 2002 (4th inning) http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/COL/COL200205210.shtml
  7. You can sit dispassionately on the sideline and say that 2015 never really was destined to be our year anyway. Or you can root for the team to achieve the goal of making the post-season, and take this loss as the stinging disappointment that it is. My head told me weeks ago to pick the first option. I'm still glad I went the other direction though. It's sometimes difficult to find real emotion in mundane daily life, and sports sometimes supplies it. / Better, at least, than seeking out someone who brings drama into your mundane daily life for you.
  8. Lotus Garden is our jinx goat tonight, you are saying.
  9. Nice framing by Suzuki for strike-three on Perkins's behalf. He's one of the better catchers in the league for that, isn't he?
  10. It was about an hour, every week. Except when it was pre-empted by The Wizard Of Oz.
  11. Straight line of the night. Punch Line Contest? (Couple of entries already, we should be able to do better though.)
  12. That's intentional, to mask the actual message of "she's a real day-brightener but the full photo is too bosomy and drew well-deserved complaints when posted in game threads in the past."
  13. My image software is crude, and I haven't figured out how to keep TD from blowing up the size of the image (beyond the resolution that looks good) when I post. I keep trying, I keep deleting. It's a shame, and I know Glunn in particular mourns the loss.
  14. Wait, no, don't change the... Too late. Ick, ish, what have you. Mind-bleach, please.
  15. Obviously this is the direction we all were thinking, but only Brian chooses to put it into words.
  16. The winged monkeys would have had little chance against the USAF 1939 Army Air Corps.
  17. No, Rosario effected the play. The Kid would've affected it. / sorry, can't help it
  18. "Base hits on 0-2 pitches, leaving the starting pitcher in to save the bullpen, and those kids on my lawn, OH MY!"
  19. Add one teaspoon of sewage to a bottle of wine, and you have sewage. Add one teaspoon of wine to a bottle of sewage, and you still have sewage. Not sure that's relevant, but there it is.
  20. It's still the first half of the game?
  21. Terry Ryan had a quote a few months ago that a big thing about pro baseball is that it's played every day. He stated that there are some players who'd be in the HOF, if only the games were played once a week. Or, something to that effect.
  22. Pretty fair route to the ball by Hicks. Probably a routine CF out, but easy to see someone making it into something other....
