  1. Also the Cuyahoga River championship Vintage Town Ball League team of 1913.
  2. Reasonable call, let's see how it plays out. Here's mine: Willingham DH, Doumit traded, Plouffe non-tendered. Have to wait for next Spring to find out.
  3. Pretty much. Soaking the runner sounds more like Town Ball, but all those variants were more about athleticism on defense than about pitching and batting for power. "The Scientific Game" as opposed to just brute bashing and throwing.
  4. Harks back to the very early days of baseball, when it was required that every out be recorded as a result of a fielding act. The strikeout had to be caught as though (on the third try) the bat had been put on the ball.
  5. Had to take time to properly frame it first.
  6. You have been reported to the American Diabetic Institute.
  7. I have an idea: there is this new fangled concept called Pitch To Contact. Our team should look into it.
  8. Didn't take it personally. I just wanted to counter the uplift.
  9. And you know George Carlin's line, "Shoot is just Sh*t with two 'o's".
  10. While promoting anxiety of one form or another.
  11. Since I have contributed more than my share of gloom, here is maybe an example of why. On a cloudless day that should have a sky full of blue, the fire at Yosemite a hundred miles away has our mountain photos looking like this: Hack kaff.
  12. OK. Thanks for the visual, which I was lacking. Mini-rant about 21 megasimoleons withdrawn.
  13. No, last season was worth more than the $7M he was paid. But we got him for $21M, and was always an injury risk (which I expect is why you don't send him on a one-out flyball), so I am not confident that the full 21 was well spent.
  14. Would Michael Cuddyer have scored from third on Wilkin's flyball to right? Because, that's who we "traded" to get Willingham. I liked the deal at the time. Now, not so much. But, in my defense, I thought the money saved would be applied to something.
  15. Do I get to throw anything away? Been so long since I've gotten to make any headway in a project like that, I'd relish it. But not if it just means putting things into bins and then storing them away again. / I'm talking about other people's stuff - not my own personal belongings. Those, I keep for good reasons
  16. And there you are. A single scores a runner. Hopefully Pelf can stop it there.
  17. Pelfrey's back to walking the tightrope. Two walks this inning after getting two strikes on the batter and then not being able to put him away. Not confidence-inspiring.
  18. My wife didn't appreciate my even smaller-capsule review, "scary". I guess she's more confident in her sanity.
  19. At least our guys are swinging when they strike out. First round, Twins.
  20. Capsule movie review: Blue Jasmine is an excellent character study and the raves for Blanchett's performance are deserved, but anyone harboring fears for their own sanity maybe shouldn't go.
  21. Carnac: **** it, I'm going to a Woody Allen movie. Ed: Yada yada, open the ****ing envelope. Carnac: What did Woody Allen say when offered Twins tickets?
  22. ZOMG! I just found out I get *another* date tonight. Same girl, a different movie, this time making the long trek to Reno, to see Blue Jasmine. Wish me luck!
  23. That's your audition to replace Anderson as coach?
  24. I don't necessarily want to see our pitching coach lose his job, but I would be curious to give someone else a try just in case it might help certain ones like Liam. / ... although, with his year at Rochester, I guess I shouldn't have had my hopes up any for tonight
