Ryan is gonna keep doin it the Twins Way....that concept from the GMs booth is past his prime. Id go back to the late 90s version of getting young guys up here to gel together instead of solid vets with no more upside like Willy/Justin/Span. They love the Doumit/Carroll type bench players who play as much as everyday players (shouldnt). Dont see any light at end of tunnell as long as Ryan keeps the same Twins approach
I think whats hurt him is during his career, he was never the best player during his era (only one top 5 finish in MVP..4th in 93). He was just incredibly consistent (never more than 37HR--7 straight tho & 10 total over 30....107rbi his high--8yrs over 100) and performed in the playoffs (.917OPS in 50gms). I also think he fell off the radar somewhat to fans/media by signing & basically finishing his career w/Tampa (other noncontenders) think he'll be the type who gets in 6/7 yrs in when his numbers stand out more from the steroid guys....who definately hurt him Im a lil bit of a HOF snob cause I still think Dale Murphy deserves to be in over Jim Rice/Gary Carter types. Best player in game (opinion) for an 8 yr stretch in 80s....2 time MVP, 7 time All Star, 5 time gold glove
Still dont understand how/why a voter can put someone on the ballot one year, but not the next. Ive always thought that once a player makes a voters ballot, they are there till inducted or untill taken off the ballot. How does a retired player get worse. Those type of voters should lose their ballot
Did anyone hear the Gibson 100 innings from Ryan??? I read it earlier & there is no way that I belive its true (misprint of 160 maybe). I heard Ryan say they wanted to get Kyle to around 70 innings THIS year (counting Instr. Lg & AFL). Still will surprise me if its 160 as they let Liriano get to 200 the first year back. Dont know why they would change philosiphy, but they wont contend next year so its no big deal On the radio he said (or the assistant gm) 20-25% increase from this year to next year. that would put it right around 100IP if he gets to that 70IP area. That is why they are sending him to instructional ball, and the Arizona Fall League. they use the 20/25% rule on minor league pitchers & relievers transfering to starters....but if they do this with Gibson, they will finally show everyone else how incompetant the front office/medical staff truly is. Wash is getting heat by bein conservative with Stras by only letting him get back to 170innings. Never heard of a team limiting a starter to that few innings after the surgery IF they are gonna start him.
I agree with the top 3 posters.....dont get that attitude out of Trevor at all. He's looks like he will be a low average, power hitting type of 3B who's on the low end of defensive ability. Does that mean he should have the position locked in for next yr....absolutely no. If they can upgrade, go for it.
the last MLB starter for MN that had TJ surgery was Liriano. They let him get to 200 combined innings between AAA/Twins. Curious to see if they've changed their philosiphy. Difference between Kyle/Stras is many (myself for sure) thought Wash was a serious contender this year to start the season & could've handled Strad differently if they believed in the innings reduction. MN will have no shot to compete next year, so it wont be as important on the innings for him. I believe MN will keep Kyle in AAA regardless of his spring training (where they will say he 'could' earn a spot) and bring him up in mid May/June to monitor his innings/service time & also give a nondeserving pitcher (Deduno/Walters/Blackburn, etc) the first 6/8 wks (after saying they earned it). Also, how will MN handle Scot Baker next yr (Im 90% sure they will resign him also) as he just had the surgery in late April/early May. If guys begin pitching 10 months after surgery...Baker will have all of spring training as his rehab time & also be ready to go fulltime by beginning of May(???).
Really? I think that's pretty elite. Dont get me wrong, I would love Tony to make it as those 8 years are very good. However they just arent HOF as you need more than 8yrs of very good/great play. Look at other OFs during his era that dwarfed those numbers (esp during their peak 8 yrs) that did make it. To me, Tony is more in the Roger Maris/Vada Pinson/Dick Allen type of player .....great player during his era who didnt have the extended success to be a HOF. Nothing wrong with that. He is one of the very greatest players NOT to make the HOF tho. What I dont get is how voters have him at his peak of 47% but only 30% the next year. How did he get worse. IMO, if a player makes a voters card he should HAVE to be on their card untill his eligibility is over. Dont get me started tho as there are several players (older generation) who I dont believe deserve it when looking back.
thought there were several instances when he got strike 3 (confirmed by K zone), but called a ball & had to throw 5/10 more pitches to a hitter or an inning. No excuse as this is something you have to deal with, but last night I thought he didnt get any help from home plate umpire
still laughing at Arcia's ranking as many (Keith Law had him @ 85 entering the yr) have had Arcia much higher during the season & his monster AA half season will get him to top 75 in the real rankings.

With Appel available at #3 next yr & he is again passed (no prob this yr), there will be a major fan revolt (of those of us that care). Reading an article on Appel. He's talked with his Stanford coach about how he is too used next season (innings, pitch counts, actual pitch selection, etc) preparing him for the majors. Maybe that will help him from becoming the next college blowout. Would Ryan/another GM consider Appel's Stanford season to be equal to a AA stint that he would have started the season off at and possibly pitch in majors next season??
expect to get drilled on Uggla idea...but, his 2012 struggles started June 1st. Since 80gms .163/.306/.312 36runs 12doubles 9HR 33rbi 93k 46bb 2/3 sb ...pretty bad numbers & as bad as he can get Twins 2B all season 137gms .230/.283/.290 51runs 22doubles 2triple 1hr 42rbi 80k 37bb19/20sb As horrible as Uggla's been, he's better than Minnesota's production, he's not the scrappy 'hit behind the runner' type Gardy must have Uggla's 6 yr MLB lows 146gms .233/.311/.453(all last yr).... 84runs 22doubles 27HR 82RBI 48bb 171Ks (his high) Twins have never had a 2B with that type of power production and those are his lows Seasonal SS numbers 137gms .230/.285/.309 58runs 18doubles 2triples 6hr 48rbi 91k 38bb 12/16sb
yeah, he's been ever bit (or more) as shaky as Dozier was but without even a tinge of the offensive upside. Florimon is also 6 months older than Dozier (who everyone complained was too old)
options are buying low...ala ARIZ with Aaron Hill. Hill turned around and now one of games best again. Would anyone be ballsy enough to look at Dan Uggla?? What if ATL picked up Blackburn/Nishi's deal back to cover 9m of his 39m deal left?? Sometimes ya gotta take a chance. He still has 17HR 64RBI & leads NL in walks w/80, what production do we have at the position?? They were rumoured in for Span at one time. Also been a positive UZR fielder this season. We all want to deal Span for pitching, but how much can ya get for him. Wash's Danny Espinosa was heavily mentioned for him last yr, is currently one of games rising middle infielders (minor league SS) and they have the depth (SLombardozzi) to deal him. Just a couple names.
In Tony's prime yrs (64-71), his average yr was 147gms .313/.360/.507 89runs 35doubles 6triples 22HR 90RBI 63k 41bb Pretty solid all star yrs, but just dont think those numbers scream HOF, but I hope he gets it. Defintatly robbed by the injury
