  1. Interesting the Gold Glove at two positions. I imagine that would be a nice feather in his HOF case, the kind of thing that some voters latch onto.
  2. Weird that the Twins have, in my mind, two of the borderline HOFers in Puckett and Bert. I'm still convinced Bert doesn't get in if he wasn't an announcer trumpeting his case while Puckett clearly got in with some nostalgia for a player struck down in their primes. It'd be nice to have a HOF who is considered borderline who actually deserves to be there. Go Johan! P.S. I can't wait to be having these discussions about Joe in 7-10 years.
  3. Santana should very clearly make the Hall. That Colon Cy Young will always burn me because it's what kept him from winning three in a row. Three in a row would be a surefire HOF argument. He'll still get in but I think it'll take 5-10 years for momentum to build.
  4. Yeah, they should ridden Santana one more inning. Especially with an offday Monday - he has an extra day of rest this next cycle.
  5. Why is Friday TBD? Is Colon not able to pitch? Too many slow curves? Seems like the Twins are settling into Santana, Berrios, Colon, Gee and Gibson for now. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Mejia is ready to come back - gotta think Gee and Gibson are start to start and Colon is a few bad ones away from being replaced. I know Slegers had a good start but I don't see him replacing anyone for now. Nice to have Mejia and Slegers who you're at least a bit excited to see if they get an opportunity.
  6. No thread for tonight yet. I'm excited to face Giolito. His MILB splits have righties with a .671 OPS and lefties with a .879 OPS. And that's the minors. The Twins will likely send seven lefties to the plate, assuming that Vargas DH's. We will need that with Kyle Gibson on the mound. I love the Twins ability to throw tons of lefties in the lineup.
  7. Do we know Mejia will be on the DL? I've heard nothing saying he's out for the year. Most fantasy sites say that he'll be back at some point. I know Byung Ho would have to be added to the 40 but if the Twins have a spot, I think he'd be a nice addition.
  8. I mean, no one should get you excited as anything more than a role player. That's what the September call-ups are for - pinch running, defensive substitution, LOOGY, pinch hitter with pop, late inning sub in a blow-out game to rest a starter. Those are all useful guys who might be able to give the Twins a little something to get them over the hump. This is also unsubstantiated but I like young guys getting their MLB debuts this time of year. The season can drag and it adds a nice bit of excitement for the rest of the guys.
  9. I'd like to see Byung Ho come up when the Rochester season is over. Well-liked in the clubhouse and a bench bat with some pop. Same goes for Vargas (assuming Sano comes back around 9/1).
  10. Likely was on a bit of a pitch count seeing as he hasn't exactly been stretched out of late. that's why that outing is so good, I bet they only expected 4 innings. So is the rotation now Santana, Berrios, Colon, Gibson and Gee? With Gibson/Gee pitching for their job every time and Slegers and eventually Mejia waiting in the wings?
  11. I've been trolling for the Twins to sign Danny Valencia as the other half of 2018's 1B platoon. This only adds fuel to my fire. Mashes LH pitching, can play 3B and corner OF reasonably well and now is a GG talent at 1B :-)
  12. They wanted Thorpe to get a start in AA but wanted Stewart to end up there. Moving Stewart down to High A for a day allows Thorpe to make his start and then the two switch places. I assume Stewart will start in Thorpe's place next time through the rotation (he gets an extra day off, never a bad thing for a young arm).
  13. Also, can we say that Adrianza has been a nice scrap heap pickup? A really nice 25th man. Anyone missing Danny Santana?
  14. I mean, the guy you're citing, Slegers, isn't a top 30 prospect and is unlikely to turn into anything amazing. If I told you Slegers is on the 2019 Twins you'd assume he's a middle reliever and you're probably sad that he's made the team. The young Twins would be Jorge, Romero or Gonsalves - those are legitimate prospects. Romero is on an innings limit, Jorge had mixed results and Gonsalves hasn't really done AAA yet. That leaves you with "the old, never was players". What are you gonna do? Starting pitching wasn't a strength and the team is pretty deep in its starting pitching depth - May, Santiago, Mejia, Enns are all injured. No team is great when it hits starting pitchers 10-15. I'm actually impressed that they have guys as good as Sledgers/Melville/Gee/Wheeler/Hurlburt when they hit that far into their depth. Some nice pickups, even if you don't love seeing them start. In my mind, the Twins have given starts to fringe MLBers three times in the last week due to doubleheader/injury mischief. It worked out with Slegers, didn't with Melville and looks okay with Gee thus far (knocks on wood). Going 2-1 in those games would be nice. "Always look on the bright side of life."
  15. Sledgers would have been on short rest. You think he's that good that he's going to pitch well on short rest? Melville on full rest > Sledgers on short rest.
  16. Hindsight is 20/20. I think they made out well trading Garcia. I'm down to trade for someone's 4th or 5th starter but how good is that guy compared to what they have? What does it cost? I don't want to give up significant prospects for a random 4th or 5th starter who is as likely to fall off a cliff and be worse than Gee/Sledgers/Enns as he is to be a solid starter. The first game was always going to be rough. Hopefully they can take this second.
  17. And I just saw that smirk on the replay. God that was hideous.
  18. If you're going to do it against one team, the White Sucks are it. Let's get to that pen!
  19. Nope. Gee, Gibson, Santana and Berrios. It's a five game series. I get not loving Melville but what are they supposed to do? They don't have starting pitching depth and it's seven games in five days. You're going to pull up two guys from AAA. In my mind we were playing with house money the minute we got a nice outing out of Sledgers.
  20. Nicer second inning. Hopefully he was just trying too hard that first inning. He did seem to be overthrowing.
  21. That was terrible base running. And then Moby Tim can't take advantage.
  22. What are the odds that Garver's first MLB catching experience comes with Gimenez on the mound?
