  1. Hey Nick, Ran into a bit of a sandstorm in your travels Eh?
  2. Not until we see what they come up with for an advertising campaign. If it's funny and interesting... All must be forgiven.
  3. Make it a good one Strap
  4. Through evolutionary processes over generations. The Minnesota Twins have evolved to the point where they depend on players like Odorizzi for Survival. Which is exactly how the World created the Dung Beetle.
  5. I don't know if I agree with the overall thought but I love the presentation.
  6. I hope that Falvey/Lavine didn't do something like this when determining comfort level. I'd actually prefer self imposed budget as the reason to some sort of inflexible metric valuation. Also... if GM's are moving to this model. Tighten your seatbelts... The next CBA is going to be painful. The players union will be insistent that players are not under control during prime years.
  7. Agreed Unless the one constant is the cause.
  8. Unless they don't have a Plan B. Without an executable Plan B... it becomes a really big wrong. I look at it this way: I don't believe all of the rumors but I think everyone can agree that Darvish was identified as a clear target... if not a priority signing by the club itself. I don't know what the Twins were willing to offer but let's assume it was 5 years at 20 million per. If the Twins are willing to add 20 million to the payroll for Darvish for the next 5 years. I'm willing to wait and see what they do with the 20 million now that they lost the bet. If the the Twins don't spend it or fill the hole they were trying to fill. If they give some sort of impression that Darvish was the only one they were willing to spend 20 million on. Then drawing a 20 million line in the sand and saying they tried is beyond stupid. If Darvish is the only one they wanted... 5 years or 6 or 7 years doesn't matter. You placed all your eggs in one basket... You do everything you can to protect that basket full of your eggs. It's possible Darvish dismissed the Twins out of hand and there was no price that would have got the deal done but that would still be a lack of planning for the possibility and exhibit the creativity of a turnip. I'm waiting to see what happens next. If it's nothing. The only thing I'll have left is the hope that they learned a lesson that won't happen next year.
  9. I think what you are saying is absolutely possible. I also think that it is quite possible that the Cubs were the first team to offer a 6 year deal as a way to meet in the middle.
  10. I didn't know we had a crowd. We feel a little out numbered.
  11. I give points for effort. I will support GM's that crash and burn on occasion. I will not support GM's who just lay there. I try to keep my convictions no matter if I was right or wrong. I've been saying crap for years on this site and I do my best to own whatever I type. I"ve been Pro-Darvish and if I am wrong about him. I will never dodge those convictions. I've been saying that signing Darvish could go horribly wrong because that is the nature of free agency... but the Twins should do it anyway because they need a top line guy and he was the toppest of the top line guys available in my opinion. Free Agency isn't about value for every single year of the contract... it's about meeting the price that gets the deal done.... If you want the Player. Free Agency comes down to wanting a player or not wanting a player. If you only want one player... you must pay the price to get that player and it could get expensive if he is the only player you want because you gave yourself no leverage by identifying other options. Low balling or hard lining the only free agent on your list is naive. Now if they have two legitimate options.. that changes the dynamic a little. You have a fall back option if things don't work with the other option. This is what I'll be waiting on now. There better be something!!! .
  12. I wasn't defending the Twins... I was saying... I don't believe we know no matter what we cobble together from the bits and pieces.I was agreeing with Nick. OveralI... I agree with you... A Decent Plan B would be the only thing that explains the effort toward Darvish.
  13. Could be... Certainly can't be taken off the plausible possibility table.
  14. Yes If the Twins do not pick up a comparable Plan B option to Darvish... I will without question say that they failed. If Darvish finishes with a 5.00 ERA for all 6 years of the his Cubs Contract... I will still say that they failed. If Darvish throws one pitch in Spring Training and his arms falls off ending his career leaving the Cubs on the hook for all 6 years of payments... I will still say that they failed.
  15. I am experiencing all 5 stages simultaneously. Last night I got tossed out of Target for angrily trying to negotiate the price of "Market Pantry Monster Mix" with the young lady at the check out counter. Just so everyone knows... that type of behavior isn't me. I tried to explain to the police officer that it was a reaction to Darvish not signing with the Twins and the officer said it was no excuse in consideration of past Twins history.
  16. I agree with you but Nick is right... We don't know. Maybe the Twins offered 5/110 while the Cubs were talking 4/100 parameters. Maybe the Cubs jumped to 6 and the Twins were never given a chance to make a counter. We just don't know. However... It is clear... Darvish won't be wearing a Twins Jersey. Regardless if we know what was offered or wasn't offered. There will be no denying that they failed unless... They have a decent Plan B.
  17. If it turns out the Twins were unwilling to go past 5 years. They were either never really serious about signing Darvish or they were betting that nobody else would be willing to go past 5 years and they lost that bet. Either is unacceptable. Unless they have a Plan B.
  18. My pitchfork is still in the hay bale but I do know where it is. It is going to be interesting to see what happen's next and what happens next will be an important perception. This might be a teaching moment for the young front office duo. If they go from making Darvish a "priority" to signing nobody. The backlash will hopefully teach them that raising the expectation bar has consequences. If they go from making Darvish a "priority" to signing Tillman. The backlash is going to be a cementing of the hard earned "same old Twins" tag. At least... I... will not allow myself to be fooled again. Any benefit of the doubt that I have extended toward the new front office duo will be gone. When the 2019 version of Darvish shows up in the Twins rumor column... I will laugh out loud. If they go from Making Darvish a "priority" to trading for a comparable pitcher in value. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but wonder why they chose to pay with players/prospects instead of cash. If they go from Making Darvish a "priority" to signing a different Free Agent or Free Agents with the 20 million plus a year that they supposedly offered to Darvish. I'm willing to not second guess and see where the road leads. What the Twins do with the 20 Million they were going to spend on Darvish is going to be interesting and very telling.
  19. No idea if it is reasonable... But the D-Backs are my first phone call. Greinke for Hughes deal could free up enough money for them to sign JD Martinez. Unless the D-Backs try to tornado through our farm system in the process.
  20. Maybe... but I haven't seen anything definite about what the Twins offered... Maybe the Agent never called the Twins back to say that the Cubs are at 6 years to give them a chance to beat it. Maybe the Agent has been telling the Twins that Darvish had a 6 year offer every single phone conversation. Maybe if the Twins would have offered 6 years back in January the deal would have been done. No way of knowing for sure. But Yeah... The Twins had to know it was possible that Darvish would sign elsewhere... it's time to find out if they had a decent plan B.
