  1. Braves off to an early negative lead tonight in their 'Worst Record In MLB' cage match with our beloved Twins. Something called Foltynewicz has given up five runs for Atlanta, while Pirates hurler J. Locke, who I'm pretty sure is the bald guy from 'Lost', has held the Braves scoreless through three.

  5. Probably that one where they have identical clothes and hairstyles.
  6. Is there a precedent for a game thread Winner posted before the first pitch?
  7. Not sure if... ...ok to 'Like' picture of dead bird.
  8. Assuming that the scorers could tell the difference with the Cy Young candidates they'd send to the mound.
  9. Especially when they hog the computer...

  13. If you liked the show or if you've ever heard the DNA remix of Suzanne Vega's 'Tom's Diner' (and you have, whether you know it or not), then you have to watch this short and very funny video of clips from the show. Also a good synopsis of the almost impossibly campy show for the youngsters who don't remember the it even from syndication. http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/5800000/My-Master-the-Weakling-3x05-i-dream-of-jeannie-5819787-768-576.jpg
  14. Absolutely. A tiny bit of time at second base to reestablish his qualification to play there in an 'emergency' might not be the worst thing in the world, either. The front office has made it known over the years that it wants to be regarded as 'player-friendly' in such matters, so there's already a general precedent there. And while they're at it, how about they hold their noses and take the best offer for Pluffy, even if it doesn't meet their expectations? He's probably got only a year or maybe two left as a starting-caliber 3b anyway, and doesn't (or at least shouldn't) figure in the team's long term plans at third. Why not give him a shot at playing some ball in October for a change, after spending his entire major league career on a team that's averaged 90 losses a year?
  15. The answers to your questions are: 1. Exactly. 2. Because the organization isn't very organized.
  16. As an olive branch I've changed the graphic to one that reads 'Mostly True'. I would have no trouble calling it 'Absolutely True' except that I don't want VMart, Panda, and the other guys to feel slighted.
  17. It was meant as a pointless exercise to have fun with the fact that, in a year where some hoped the Twins might contend for a playoff spot, we've sunk to the point where the strongest defense that can be mounted of an individual player at position that was supposed to be the team's strength is 'not the worst in baseball'. Also, remember that WAR isn't a definitive measure of value. In the case of Santana, for instance, it gives him virtually no credit for the versatility that allows him to suck at so many positions. It also doesn't credit him for his clubhouse intangibles, like making himself available to assist other players in weight training by being curled, pressed, and so on. http://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/brownsvilleherald.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/9/8b/98b867d6-e64a-11e3-a41f-0017a43b2370/5385ac858757b.image.jpg
  18. Well, the Tigers and Red Sox let VMart, Panda, and Hanley play enough defense that they all managed to rack up more negative WAR in 2015 than Santana, but it took them all about 200 more PA's to do so. Otherwise, Casey McGahee and Matt Joyce produced the same negative WAR as Dantana at about the same clip. So far none of them can match the awfulness of his -0.4 WAR in 2016 though. So Santana is the worst if you take into account his limited opportunities to do damage to the team. Fact check rating: http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/08/03/tom.mostly.art.jpg
  19. Without looking to closely at what's out there, I'm ok with Grossman too. Or at least with them choosing what need to try to address when they chose Grossman, as opposed to a Bucky Buchanan type AAAA lumberjack who homers once every 30 AB's and K's in all the others. But good LORD, how does a franchise that traded away Aaron Hicks in November end up with no outfielders on the DL and yet resort to Robbie Grossman in May?
  20. Now that he's a Twin we can probably cross item 4 off the list.
  21. Oooh, let me start! 1. Mammal Guess I'm more of a big picture guy, so maybe you guys can take it from there.
  22. Six months ago the outfield talent throughout the Twins organization was supposed to be its greatest strength, enough so that they felt comfortable dealing from it for a need at catcher. So far in 2016 the Twins' outfield has "amassed" a WAR total of -1.0, batting .218/.277/.358 in the process. At the moment it consists of two quad A players, two barely-converted infielders, and a DH (Arcia) who happens to own an outfield glove. If that's the position your organization is strongest at, I'm not sure the words "total system failure" do it justice.
  23. What you're saying would be the easy call in a vacuum, but this year I'm not sure you could apply that standard and find 25 players in the Minnesota Twins organization who DO deserve to be in the majors.
  24. The password for your 2016 Twins season must be least 6 characters long and contain at least one capital letter and one number. Please choose again.
  25. Posted this in the game thread, recycling is supposed to be good for the environment: Twins have been swept in 8 three-game series, with the asterisk added that in one sweep by Baltimore (23-14) a game was rained out. But even if you credit the Twins with only 7 times being swept... The most-swept MLB team in 2015, the Phillies, got swept in three game series 10 times. Ten times. All year. The Twins could tie that in May with one series to spare.
