  1. Biggest unexpected impact player this year? The Twins training and physio staff!! With the exception of Dyson, who had a preexisting issue and honestly we should have gotten a discount on him, the days seem to be gone where guys would go down for some benign issue, disclose that they’ve been sore for a long time and need a month or two to recover. Actually, I think that’s why everyone got upset when Dyson showed up as, apparently, damaged goods using the same language that Twins players previously had used to justify why they wouldn’t tell coaches about their injuries; we just aren’t seeing that kind of nonsense this year! Sure, the boys have had their issues (I won’t mention a certain CF, as that’s sure to start a war) and sometimes it’s taken a little longer to come back from an injury, but by and large problems have been dealt with in a pro-active way with a long-term outlook in mind. Way to go unsung heroes!
  2. I think that last comment was metaphorical! Baseball has a problem; they see the NFL (finally) lightening up and the NBA clearly marketing itself as a fun league, while at the same time baseball regularly has six hour games and we’ve yesterday’s game ending with one borderline major-leaguer who can’t throw strikes but has been trained to be so full of himself that he needs to bean someone after another boarderline major-leaguer gets a base hit on a 3-0 count. How can baseball market that; “pay money to watch our guy enforce unwritten rules”?? No, people want to see Bryce Harper send balls to the moon and race joyfully around the bases to win a game. Every time a game ends like the Twins’ game did, it has to be less ticket sales for MLB.
  3. I wish we could just move on from the unwritten rule crap; it’s too dang complicated! I don’t recall anyone talking about this 25 years ago. Why? Because everyone knew the rules and followed them. If you broke a rule, you usually knew it and when it was addressed, everything was sorted on both sides. Nowadays, I’m convinced that 50% of the boys either have no idea what the rules are or don’t care. But every team seems to have a “designated enforcer” whose job it is to know the rules and inform people when they’ve been broken. But it’s clear that one team’s interpretation of the rules is different than others because there are more and more fights over stupid stuff - the Pirates/Reds brawl a couple weeks ago is case in point. People are different than they were 25 years ago. The game has changed; these childish rules that don’t allow a guy fighting for his MLB life to swing at strikes need to change as well.
  4. I’d love for Odorizzi to be Max Scherzer and pitch 7/8 innings per game with 15 Ks, but what you see is what you get. He’s going to walk people and struggle with his command...but as long as he can come back and take care of business once he gets runners on, shoot who cares what it looks like! By the way, the way that Arraez has inserted himself as a key cog in the lineup has me recalling another rookie 2B back in 1991. It would be great for 2019 to end like that season!
  5. Without a hint of sarcasm, I had the same thought. Hildy was lights out last year and part of this year, so here’s hoping his issues were physical and not mechanical/mental. Getting the 2018 version of Hildy for the stretch run? That would be awesome.
  6. Totally agree. Hoping that the other team will lose is not the path to greatness. At some point the Twins need to believe that they are the better team, which extends to the FO and to the broadcasters. We’re not going to be gifted the division, so let’s just TAKE IT!
  7. I agree with sentiment here, I.e. “don’t panic”, and it’s a good one. But the basic premise behind this - and by the way a number of similar articles recently, like the one about Buxton - is that Twins fans should just calm down and be happy with what they have. “Sure the Twins have turned an 11 game lead into 1 game in a few weeks, but those Indians are darn good, doncha know and well we should be satisfied that at least the boys aren’t as bad as last year, (uf da!) and we really shouldn’t have expected too much anyway...it is Minnesota!” Come on; is it illegal to have expectations? Is it beyond the pale to hope that we could see this record setting team in the playoffs? On what planet do people just accept that our all-world CF is constantly hurt because he can’t seem to avoid injury or not cry out in anguish when our starting staff collectively decides to take a mulligan?? I’m LOVING this season....but I want more! I’m not happy with just doing well, I want to compete for championships! Isn’t that normal?
