  1. As seems to be the norm...did not see him getting that much. Yikes.
  2. What you did is try to show that the sliver of truth was true, while ignoring the part that was garbage. That's also a fancy way of exaggerating, fabricating, lying...whichever floats your boat.
  3. JJ Hardy home runs in 2009 and 2010: 17...combined. SLG in 2009: 0.357 (average was 0.418). SLG in 2010: 0.394 (average was 0.403). ISO in 2009: 0.128 (average was 0.155). ISO in 2010: 0.126 (average was 0.145). Would you like to point out that sometimes a 2B has batted second so that naturally means they batted there "just because" of it? Cuz that would be a good play here, too...I guess.
  4. When your top four knocks against him range from "speculation" to "pure fiction," I'd say that's actually a pretty ringing endorsement.
  5. Yes. Where in the world are all these Gardy supporters that "always say" that they had little to no talent?
  6. That is EXACTLY what I said.....right? RIGHT? Are you really going to try and honestly make that leap? Or is it just more garbage where you argue against something that never existed or was said?
  7. But if I'm planning on running the race in the Focus...why is spending way too much on it a sign of cheapness? That's the part I'm questioning, not the overall willingness or ability to spend. I try hard to stay out of those discussions for many reasons, but in this particular case I don't see why it's a sign of cheapness to way, way, way overpay what someone is worth. If they're just looking to save the money, wouldn't NOT spending it be a better way to do it? I say either way, it's just a bad deal, not a cheap deal. I think we're maybe just on semantics.
  8. Oh stewardess! I speak gibberish. Hehehehe. That was much needed after reading all the threads today. Thank you, sir.
  9. So your point was to come and make a bs argument that the Twins wouldn't like to have Shields pitch for them? To make the garbage insinuation that Correia is the only move the Twins have made or will make? To further some ridiculous notion that not winning a World Series is a complete failure? Is that about right? The Tigers tried to get Shields just as hard as the Twins tried to get Haren or McCarthy or ... well, Shields, if you want to play that game. The Twins likely will make another move, though this one is a bad omen. If you believe La Velle E Neal, the Twins actually never made an attempt to sign McCarthy. There were never any reports that they made a play for Haren either. They could have traded for him, giving up peanuts likely, had they been willing to pay him $13 million. On the other hand, the Tigers actually DID make a strong effort to trade for Shields. I agree that Correia was surely not a top target, but obviously the Twins are not trying as hard as other clubs to sign/trade for some of these big names. We DO hear reports the Twins have been tied to Correia, Liriano, Lannan and Myers. We DON'T hear reports they are tied to Sanchez, Marcum, Jackson or Lohse. Methinks you missed my point.
  10. I've seen this sentiment in other threads about the Correia signing also. Can someone explain how overpaying a guy by somewhere between 2 and 10 times is a sign of cheapness or an attempt to save money? Is paying $50,000 for a used Ford Focus a sign that I'm trying to save money?
  11. That's dubious, at best. No centerfielder, no leadoff hitter. No additions to the middle infield. Nothing significant added to a very shallow bullpen that will likely be hard pressed to match last year's mediocrity. Outside of the rotation, the Twins were about as healthy as could be expected in 2012. The only 2012 starter who performed at a major league level is a pretty good candidate for some serious regression. The only additions of note are Correia, and coming-off-elbow-surgery Worley. Gibson may or may not be ready, and/or healthy enough to take a rotation spot for part of the season, and if he does, succeed. Hendrics has done little to give one much optomisim. I think there's a much stronger argument to be made that right now, the 2013 Twins are most likely several games worse than the 2012 Twins. I agree that the team as it stands now doesn't make me feel as confident (or makes me feel more pessimistic?) as the one they had heading into spring training of 2012. As the team came out of the spring or at least a month or two into the season once it had become clear that Baker, Pavano, Marquis, Blackburn, AND Liriano were going to give little to nothing...from that point I don't think the team as it stands now is much worse. Is it? Maybe I just can't let myself think that it could be. Also...I haven't been able to let myself think you're right in your later post that they aren't going to sign another FA starter. And I'm well aware that that may be more hope than expectation.

  13. How many starts do you suppose Shields will make for the Tigers this year?
  14. As long as you're reaching for your own popsicle for gratification there, you should probably link to your "100%" guarantee that they would sign nobody for more than one year. Right? I think you would be thrown out of court by any random judge for using an invalid defense of the indefensible. Who defended anything?
  15. What "solid 3" is getting only $5M in free agency at this point?

  17. You'd prefer he doesn't bounce back? Pretty weird. I would prefer if he wasnt a twin. TOTAL BUM You realize that he is, though, right? And given that, you're saying...what now? That you prefer if he is unsuccessful in the future because you think he's been unsuccessful? Or...Yeah, still not getting it.
  18. You'd prefer he doesn't bounce back? Pretty weird.
  19. Me too! But future playing out is likely only going to lead to more questions!
  20. Scott Diamond was a rule 5 pickup if I remember correctly? Kinda-sorta. For one, it was the year before last. And for the other, they ended up trading to keep him rather than keep him on the 25-man roster all year in the pure Rule V sense.
  21. Is there some requirement that new prospects need to have an 's' added to their name? Is this like the start of Meyersie, Maysie, Gibsie, etc? You can't expect them to just be handed the whole nickname right off the bat, can you? You've got to earn it in stages!
  22. Barring any acquisitions, my guess is second with Carroll slotting in first (unless Hicks grabs that spot). How sure are we that Carroll is even going to start? Obviously utility guys get a fair amount of time, and maybe even especially so with this year's roster of young, unproven starters in the infield...but I find it a little hard to imagine them going with a leadoff guy who isn't expected to be in the linuep most every day. I'm really quite curious to see how the batting order plays out.
  23. Yes, I was speaking strictly in the sense of a traditional left/right platoon. Gardenhire's desire for everyday lineup coherence in the infield is exceeded only by his desire to play the guys whose defense he feels least likely to give him a coronary on any given day. I like when one post is quoted and seemingly agreed with by someone saying something nearly the opposite...and both takes seem invented! For the record, I've heard a lot of times how Gardenhire moves everyone around too much. Compared to what? This year... Justin Morneau played only one position. Alexi Casilla played one game plus a couple spare innings at 3B and otherwise played only one position. Danny Valencia played only one position, and once he was moved on down the road and Plouffe was given the job...he played only that position. Dozier played only one position, and once he was demoted and Florimon took over HE played only one position. Josh Willingham played only one position. Denard Span...guess how many! And Revere played exclusively RF except when Span was out and then he played that position instead. Carroll moved around because he was, you know, the utility infielder. Mastro played a lot around the outfield because he was the utility outfielder. So who was playing Russian roulette around the diamond? Mauer played two spots for reasons well known and discussed. Parmalee played a couple spots. The rest of the guys who came up and down didn't play significantly anywhere.
  24. That's nine for the Pro list now. One more for an official Top Ten List! Although I'd contend that Sexy and Dreamy are too similar to be listed separately.
