  1. I've been wondering about this a lot and haven't seen any reports at all. There was a gap in my coverage, though, so maybe I missed it. Where has this been covered?
  2. Yeah, it's likely the most admirable thing about you how you can always state something once or mayyyyyybe twice and then be done with it. I feel like Fletch in the presence of Stanton Boyd.
  3. I think you're right that intent matters. I also think, however, that while some indeed are playful, that it is quite obvious that other comments are absolutely mean-spirited. Some have been deleted from this thread and there are many in other threads on this forum. And while this may be part of the price of being a public figure, that doesn't mean it should be, or that we all have to think that it's cool or even OK. As for blunt vs. classless, I don't think those descriptions are defined objectively enough to be able to say definitively that one applies and the other does not. Beauty is often in the eye of the beholder, and so is ugliness. Full disclosure: I am not Nick Blackburn's mother.
  4. Because of when and how things happened, you can get a pretty good idea. FIRST a member of the media seeks out Hardy for an interview to do a story. That story comes out, and immediately Hardy then SEEKS OUT someone mentioned in the story AND SEEKS OUT media to go out of his way to clarify and correct how things came off in the original story. Do you suppose he did that because...I can't even think of a good reason unless it was because he felt so bad about giving the wrong impression the first time around.
  5. You must not have heard from the baseball folks that we're supposed to hope he fails if we're smart fans. I think it was because he had a bad couple of years. I didn't quite get the logic, but then again, I'm not one of the cool kids...
  6. Detroit went over a decade under Illitch without even reaching .500. And finished last only 5 years ago. And won fewer than 70 games 7 times in 9 years including back-to-back years losing 235 (!!!) games.
  7. And the very next day (I think), Hardy went out of his way to go to the media and correct what he had meant. And as I said...go ahead and google "Hardy Vavra" for one article after another in every major place that covers the Twins where he was apologetic for what had come out being misconstrued. You're above backing up the lying, I'm pretty sure.
  8. I think it's something to do with age and league(s) they've played or not played in. I apologize for all the details, but that's what I think I read once. EDIT: Found this quote in an article on mlb.com... "Cuban players that are at least 23 years old and have played at least three seasons in a Cuban professional league are not subject to the new international signing guidelines established by the Collective Bargaining Agreement."
  9. Just couldn't resist trying to sneak that lie past everyone? I find it hard to believe someone who claims to know so much missed article after article on pretty much every source possible where Hardy went out of his way to credit Vavra with turning around his career. If it was something that somehow got past you, googling "Hardy Vavra" will result in a whole mess of links for you.
  10. That's absolutely a twisting of what was actually said...which many fans obviously do find to be an exhilirating thing to do.
  11. I don't understand why people just invent things in their imagination and then pass them off as facts. That's before thinking about whether or not the issue mentioned is even a bad thing. Or even a thing.
  12. I don't think the intentional walks are as big a part of his arsenal as you're implying there. If you eliminated every single one from last year, his OBP drops like six points.
  13. I don't think you know what average means. Also, trying to prove a point that players are benched for struggling by saying they were benched BEFORE struggling doesn't really make sense.
  14. You might want to check the Game Logs for Plouffe and Dozier from last year before you use them as examples of how Gardy benches young guys at the first sign of a struggle.
  15. It's nice to know that I'm safe from posting the most ridiculous thing of the day.
  16. Is it really news that an elite athlete isn't going to be elite forever? What a lame criticism.... Then of course we get to the "he's played on some bad teams, therefore his talent isn't worthy of appreciation" and the lame criticism about not being elite forever just fades away under the weight of that ridiculous, preposterous argument. I would show the list of players we should "struggle" to appreciate because they've played on some (or many) bad teams, but it's comically long. I'll leave alone that he's played on far more very good teams. Oh, wait...
  17. The average of the numbers 1, 3, and 13 is clearly 3 by your logic. THAT is the really, super new math.
  18. North Dakota makes me sad. (Settle down, folks...just a joke. Probably.)
  19. Wasn't saying the trade was only bad in hindsight (as already pointed out). Was pointing out the power angle wasn't what is being claimed now. That's not the same. And probably got under my skin because of the common insinuation that "they" would actually prefer a player NOT to have power. That part is probably on me for letting an "outer voice" (or whatever the terminology used on this site in a really good article) influence me a bit too much.
  20. I thought maybe I was mis-remembering how well Mientkiewicz hit, so I went and looked. I spent most of the time just shaking my head in wonder, while thinking essentially the words that Brock wrote here.
  21. More or less agree. I was perplexed at the time, and really disappointed in what they got back (which I doubt Gardenhire had anything to do with, btw). Even in the moment, it was one of my least liked personnel moves. And that's without using hindsight to shift around the reasons for it at the time as was done (not by you).
  22. There are about a million threads (number approximated) either completely devoted to the topic or at least touching on it via tangents. So you can find out fairly easily.
  23. I took "stove is hot" to be a play on words with the "iron" phrase combining with the Hot Stove League. I'm still unwilling to believe they're done. And still realize it's more because of hope than anything else. And because it's going to really, really, really suck if it is the case...so I figure it's better to not be sad about it until it's actually true. Ugh.
  24. No. Hardy hadn't shown the power in 2009 and 2010 that he has shown since. Implying that he had just isn't true.
