Many thanks you guys! This is exactly what I was hoping for when I asked yesterday. This makes me feel a bit better...especially about the Pressly trade, which I was puzzled by initially.

Thanks for the update. It says line drive outs on the summary, but if they were not well hit then kudos to Belisle...although, I can't come to say that he has earned my trust just yet.

Article: MIN 2, BOS 1: Gibby the Great
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One thing I've always liked about Gibson is that he can shut down anybody anywhere when he's good. He doesn't seem to freak out that we are playing Boston in Fenway, just like he didn't freak out when he shut down the Yankees earlier in the year in Yankee Stadium. Sure, he can also be the guy who loses on occasion to the KC Royals, but it does give the team some confidence that a team like Boston can be beat in their own backyard.- 148 replies

Wow! A sweep of the Blue Jays...Garver was hitting everything in sight. Oh how I wish I could have watched this one. Those must have been a couple of interesting (ugly?) innings by Belisle. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems as if Toronto bailed Belisle out instead of the other way around. I can imagine him being brought into games more frequently instead of being released... I think Hildenberger is STILL the most reliable person in the pen, but he has pitched in four of the last five. He was probably exhausted.

Article: Potential Suitors for Brian Dozier
Aerodeliria replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well, that's not exactly true. Getting a minor league player who has basically reached his potential is worse than nothing because the player simply becomes someone who takes up a position... -
Article: MIN 5, TOR 0: All-Star, Indeed
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This team is so vexing and Cleveland doesn't help. Cleveland always seems to play just barely bad enough to allow the faithful to have a glimmer of hope. *SIGH* -
Thanks for these updates. It makes me forget about the "big league" team for a few moments.

Article: Potential Suitors for Brian Dozier
Aerodeliria replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm just afraid the Twins will be too eager and end up getting shanked. Dozier has played much more poorly than would be hoped at this point. The offer would have to be a big win IMHO. It is not inconceivable that Dozier could start his surge any day, so that would need to be the primary selling point. Just walk away from any conversation that starts out with batting average, strikeouts, etc., etc. -

Article: Let's Talk About Eduardo Escobar
Aerodeliria replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What I noticed in my admittedly limited looks at Escobar's at bats was his ability to resist lunging at pitches out of the strike zone. Specifically, I remember him cooly laying off a fastball high and away from Ricky Skaggs on a 3-2 count and thinking, "Wow, Escobar has matured. The old Escobar would have likely whiffed in that situation." -
Surprisingly, it seems that Sano and Buxton have ended up swinging at the same pitch for strike three constantly throughout the first half. It is good that they are not in the line-up at this point. Maybe Buxton feels as if he should be be vogueing Andre Dawson because everyone keeps reminding him of that. Maybe they should be telling him to think more like Mickey Rivers. He's so fast that putting the ball on the ground will cause defenses all kinds of problems. Let the home runs come when they come, but don't press for the long ball. Get on base and create havoc. He's shown that he can steal on almost anyone, so just getting to first base is almost like hitting double. If he starts doing that and perfecting it, he'll likely end up getting more walks as well. That's my two yen worth.

Article: MIN 6, BOS 2: Bats Get to Boston Bullpen
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A great win for the Twins....really. The game seemed destined to be a repeat of about a dozen other games where the Twins have coughed up the lead and then lost in the eighth or ninth or extras. BTW, Bradley doubled up Grossman on Adrianza's fly out in the 8th, but wasn't the obstruction play in order on that attempted tag up? Clearly, Leon used his foot to block Grossman's slide. I am just wondering if I understand the rule. I thought it was any attempt to hinder access to the plate and then obstruction would be called.- 56 replies

Hosken Bombo Disco, on 14 Jun 2018 - 1:03 PM, said: Really disappointing response by Molitor. "Had a chance to hold a lead, I get all that, but gotta have more offense." Well, 2-1 games are worth winning, too. Just my opinion. If he wants 7-10 runs every night he should quit and join a softball league. Well said! I've been a big fan of Molitor for a very long time, but he threw the offense under the bus to protect his decision to bring in Reed? It's Reed's job to protect the lead, not give up four runs and expect the offense to score five in the ninth.

Twins Pen is a Problem in More Ways Than One
Aerodeliria commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
Reed continues to get lit up like a cheap cigar. Perhaps he does need some rest. Today again, the ball was placed in Reed's hands to preserve a one-run lead and again, he could not do it. I like Molitor as a coach in general, but his use of the bullpen this year has me flummoxed. Both Belisle and Reed seem to have about the same velocity on their fastballs. (Reed's fastball to Upton in the previous series was clocked at 90 and had little movement, so despite it being on the outside edge of the strike zone, Upton pulled it...and simply crushed it. Maybe this is due to lack of arm rest and his velocity and movement will improve with rest?) And as many have mentioned, he is coming from a Cleveland team who has a horrible pen, so I really cannot see the logic behind this.- 5 comments

Article: MIN 6, DET 4: More Grand Slams, Please
Aerodeliria replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It was nice to escape that disastrous 7th inning. It seems like whenever Duke of Earl enters the game everybody starts throwing the ball around (including him). I was so happy MOY didn't opt for Reed to try and save the day. I was calling for Hildenberger (even though my voice can't be heard from this far away).- 23 replies

Article: Week in Review: Status Quo
Aerodeliria replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
BTW, speaking of catchers, I notice that there isn't much scuttlebutt about Willians Astudillo. I am wondering why his name hasn't been bandied about on Twins Daily as a possible call-up to the bigs. I am sure someone on this list is more clued-in than I am, but it seems like he has hit fairly consistently at all levels. What's the scoop on him?- 32 replies

Article: Week in Review: Status Quo
Aerodeliria replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I know that the Twins have been hard-pressed to score runs in their losses, but as was mentioned astutely here, the Twins have been abysmal in one-run games. This includes games that they have tied and then given up the winner, and this includes games in which they have taken a tiny lead (usually one run) and proceeded to give it right back. It seems as though the relief pitching performs far better on paper than they do in the actual game. (What I mean by that is the relief pitching tends to be lights out when the Twins are down by a couple or ahead by three or four, but when the game gets tight, they cough up the critical run(s).) The 4-2 loss to the Angels is a case-in-point, and it was especially aggravating to watch (remember, it's only the second game I've been able to watch this year) because Pressly just kept throwing breaking balls and eventually they started mashing them. Someone should have rattled his cage after Maldonado's double, but he continued to rely on the breaking ball despite having the 97+ mph fastball. After Kinsler's two-run homer, he finally "resorted" to throwing four straight fastballs to Trout, who was clearly over-matched. I was baffled and frustrated by that inning to be quite frank. In any case, it summed up the way the Twins have been playing. If I thought they were awful (as I did two years ago), it would be much easier to swallow, but as it seems as if there is potential around every corner, it becomes that much more frustrating. Let's see if we can finally turn the corner... Go Twins!- 32 replies
