Glad to see these young pitchers getting their inning in when the games (wins-Losses) are not that important. Of late non of the young pitchers including Berrios, that have come up have had much success right from the start. It took Berrios some time, so I hope these guys can figure it out before the end of the year. Glad to see Molitor left Gonsalves in to face Lucroy, its a learning experience. Better now then next May. The jump from AAA to the bigs takes time for both pitchers and hitters, so the more these young guys get to play the better.

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Grading Molitor
BJames replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think the Playing better as of late is two things. The first is that that new guys and guys up from AAA are playing to stay on the 20 man roster and for starting possitions. Self preservation! The second is Sano and Polanco are back. Your 3 and 4 Hitter in the lineup. That's kind of important. If we had a team full of Vets, I think they would be giving up to a degree, but we have a young team Now! -

Glad to see Weil up to AAA. Vargas has Big League Talent, not sure why no one whats to take a chance on him? I didn't say Vargas would be or is a great player, but he should be on someone's 40 man roster!- 22 replies

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Grading Molitor
BJames replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For those posting the players are making dumb plays, what is the Manager to do. Well, I remember Reggie Jackson not chasing down a ball he misplayed. What did Billy Martin do? He ran in a new outfielder and jerked Jackson out of the game in the middle of the inning. That ended up in a fight between the two. Now, I'm not saying that's the thing to do, but a little discipline is needed. Small fines by the players could go on to without us knowing. In the end the Manager puts together the Line-up and handles pitching changes, with a little strategy mixed in. -
Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Grading Molitor
BJames replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I go with a D, Mostly because of the use of Sano and Morrison in the Middle of the line-up every day. Two guys back to back in the Middle of the order struggling to hit .200 WHY did it take so long to get the better hitters together? Yes on paper it Looks good, but it wasn't working, so you have to make changes. Also, the lack of any moving runner into scoring position, either by stealing or hit and run. Molitor also, seem to lack any feel for players being Hot or Cold. He missed his chance with LaMarre when he was hot, the little use of Gaver and the overuse of relief pitchers that were cold while other Hot pitchers sat. To me he managed like he had favorites and the favorites were failing and he just sat and watched, running the same team and line-up out there every day. I saw little Managing. But most of all playing Morrison EVERY DAY and batting him in the Middle of the order expecting a different result all the way through July???? Mostly the lack of using the Roster propery. -
I still don't get why Vargas got no call up this year with Morrison sucking so bad. I know Vargas didn't have great number, but come-on Morrison and Grossman DHing everyday and you wonder why we were losing. May be Molitor didn't want him? Who knows. Seem like a waist of a year for Vargas, while he should of got playing a chance in Minn. It might not of made that much difference overall, but why not use the talent you have, even if it would be only a slight improvement. One more question, would Morrison still be on the team if we had not picked up Austin??? I think so, what was the love affair with Morrison? Anyone can be the DH,

Article: Thrift Shop: 3 Sneaky Finds by the Front Office

You missed the F.O. biggest pick-up Belisle, what a steal!!! I do think Cave was a big pick-up, Austin-Ok,Drake-its just a matter of time before he fails. I'll give the F.O. credit for Cave and Austin, but I do question why they seem to downplay the guys we already have like Mejia,Moya,Curtiss. I mentions theses guys and I could add Vargas or Astudillo because of the Massive failure of Morrison. What took so long. I think the F.O. is on the right road now, but we'll see come Sept call-ups and who Molitor lets play. We still need a key RH-DH,OF type, I'd like a Vet like Hunter was and One more STRONG arm in the Pen for next year. Otherwise stay young and let these guys play.- 101 replies

How'bt we let Garver catch for Berrios all the game and Gibson all the Games and we'll let Wilson catch for Odorizzi all of his games. I'm betting not much would change.

About a year early to be talking about trades or Kirilloff being up. Kirilloff might see some ST game and then start the year at AA. What happens then we'll see, but he'll be given half a year in the Minors to show he can produce numbers and for the Twins to make a move.

I just don't want us to sign so-so FA. It never works out. We have a good farm system. If we're going to sign F.A.'s keep the years short and don't go all in.- 33 replies

I'm hoping Arraez gets invited to ST. I think he's got to be in the Mix for a spot on the 40 man roster next year.

Article: DET 7, MIN 5: Stewart Bombs Second Audition
BJames replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Stewart got his two starts. That's a good beginning and intro to the big. But, now he needs to be sent back down and Gonz, Romero or Thorpe up. In a way not being in the playoff hunt is just what this team needs to evaluate before going into The Winter. We still have some dead wood still on this team that doesn't need to play everyday. Why wait till Sept or Next Year? -

So, why did we sign all those F.A. in the off season? I hope this shows the F.O. to trust the Farm System we have. I've got no problem bringing in guys to S.T. but we don't need to Sign So-So F.A. -

You don't get why Duffey got skipped? How'bt his 5.52 era. and that's after a couple good games. He couldn't get through an inning early in the year and he didn't do much better at AAA. I like Duffey and would like to see him do well, but I think Duffey has been used properly this year and I'm a little surprised he got called up. I'd like to see Anderson and Eades get some innings.- 36 replies

For one Wade is not on the 40 man roster at present time. I agree with you, Wade is 24 and will be 25 in Jan. so it's not as if the F.O. needs to be worried about his timetable. I'm hoping we see him in Sept, but I doubt it. The outfield is full and Cave,Granite,Field are not likely to be dropped before years end.

Before this game early in the day, I was thinking. Its time for Molitor to get the bulk of these young players together and let them lead. My point was to get Polanco,Rosario,Sano,Kepler hitting together in the order, I later taught Garver should be add to that order with a slight hint of Cave to. To my surprize the line-up was as I hoped, almost. Here we had Rosario,Polanco,Sano and Kepler hitting together. Great. Now to take it one step further, hit Gaver after Kepler and let him play all but day games. As for Cave, may be let him lead-off if Joe sits. Paul you need to trust this Core of player and you need to let them work it out together. One more hint, get Berrios,Romero and Gonsalves together too.

Article: Week in Review: Stumbling and Grumbling
BJames replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Sano, is a real question mark. Is he another Morrison? He seems to be regressing instead of getting better. When he first came up from AA, he was killing the ball and taking his walks but if the ball got in the strike zone he mashed. Something is off and I don't like were this seems to be headed.- 63 replies

I think Romero was having a let down based on not being called up. It happens with young players, disappointment on not being in the Bigs, I'd say the same for Vargas this year too. Arraez just hits, now at AA will he get a chance next year for AAA or is he one of those guys that the F.O. doesn't see making the Majors and just holds at AA till they go F.A. I'd love to see one of those organizational charts that shows a listing of the best players for each position. Does anyone know where I can see one?

I was looking for Magill to pitch the 9th. He's only pitched once this week and looked good. I think we all (or most) agree Hildy needs to sit for a while and or be moved back to the 6-7 and move up Magill & May and others. Why is Molitor so resistant to change. As a MANAGER you should always be looking at or for changes that will benefit the Team. Seems to me he wants every game to be easy on him. Run out the same player and same line-up every game and use the Bull-Pen the same way every game. Seem Molitor does anything BUT MANAGE! I don't get it!

Article: DET 5, MIN 3: Is There Anything Left?
BJames replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Frustrating year, with all three areas breaking down- Players,Manager,F.O. Let see where we go from here, but I'm for playing out the rest of the season looking towards next year. To me Spring Training starts today. -
I'm 50-50 on this. Sure I want to see Rooker do well and get a call up, but we have Rosario and Kepler at the corners and Austin at 1B. So, in a way there is no rush. Start him at AAA next year an see what happens. Same as what we did with Gordon. Problem with Gordon is he kind of failed at AAA, so I suppose he'll be there next year too. But I still want to see Rooker this year!

I think Gibson would sign a contract. I would hope it would be somewhat low. Why? I've watch Gibson for his 6 years with the Twins and this is what I see (excluding 2018) Gibby avg number of innings about 160, Gibby gives up more hits then inning pitched, avg k's about 130, But this year Gibsons numbers have all gotten better, 140 innings-just 118 hits, 135k's and a whip of 1.24. I'm not buying that Gibson suddenly has learned to pitch. Remember the last guy we signed that seemed to have turned the corner. Morrison went from avg at 15 Hr's a year to 38, how is that working for us. I'm just not buying that one good year of Gibson is worth signing. Seem this year the pitchers have the advantage. I'm for finding or signing guy better then Gibson. If you look at Odorizzi's numbers, they are better than Gibson or very similar. Odorizzi had a year, last year, like Gibson is having this year (almost identical) What happened to Odorizzi this year, he regressed to what he was before. Middle of the road 4-5 pitcher on a good team. I just feel Gibby will regress next year and after as well. We need to find # 2,#3, to go with Berrios and Romero for the coming years. I'm ok if Gibby is #5 for a reasonable price, but he's not a number 1-3 pitcher on a good team, and I don't think a #4. That's just the way I see it.
