  1. Yep. Take the flyer on a guy who won't be available for half a season. The rotation already has enough people fighting for space out of ST.
  2. Other leading candidates: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1ihmtis4y1r8y5ma.png http://cdn-media.hollywood.com/images/l/literaldoctor.jpg http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120509073411/simpsons/images/5/5e/Dr._Riviera.png

  4. Dude, you need to get that looked at if that's the case.
  5. The reasoning is provocative because the most capable man in the field recommended that they not do what you suggested. And it's generally a good idea to listen to people at the top of their field, particularly in situations as complex as medicine. That's all there is to it. I don't see how anyone can argue against that thinking.
  6. For all we know, Sano said no. And that's the point. We don't know anything about the situation other than the outcome.
  7. To take a page from Parker's book... Woof.
  8. I heard they even have to swear to an oath about such things.
  9. I believe he needs to be added to the 40 man next offseason no matter what happens. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
  10. So you believe the Twins should have ignored the advice of Dr. James Andrews? Again, this makes zero sense. If you go to the guy who's the most highly respected in his field and he tells you to do something, you damned well better take his advice.
  11. According to the link posted earlier, Tampa has the same number of TJS as the Twins in recent yeas. But we're dealing with such small numbers and so many variables that I don't know whether that means anything. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2012/11/4/3587834/MLB-tommy-john-surgeries-a-more-complete-list
  12. Sure, it opens you up to criticism but that has no bearing on whether the criticism is legitimate. And I simply don't know whether it's legitimate... and neither does anyone else here.
  13. Heh, sometimes it's no fun at all. But hey, it's the internet, where everyone is knowledgeable about everything but a master of nothing. Why stick to things in your wheelhouse when Wikipedia has all one needs to know about everything?
  14. Yep. We've all had our hair-tearing and teeth-gnashing moments in regards to the Twins medical staff but at the end of the day, none of us are surgeons, none of us have seen the players' MRIs/charts, and none of us were in the room when the decision was made. So we should probably just stick to things we do know and leave the doctor stuff to the doctors.
  15. Sano was recommended rest and rehab by the most respected TJS doctor on the planet, not Twins doctors.
  16. I think this is a real problem and have read several studies/articles that suggest the same. Throwing a baseball is a very unnatural motion on the shoulder and elbow. Exposing still-growing children to the rigors of it in competition can't lead to good results. It doesn't take anything more than common sense to see that. I think this is evidenced in the old baseball saying "throw 95 at age 18, throw 85 at age 22", or however it went. Basically, if you're throwing unnaturally hard at a young age, the common wisdom was that you'd often see a significant drop in velocity as you matured.
  17. Nevertheless, you have to listen to your doctor's advice, particularly when he's the most respected man in the field. If the doctor says no surgery, you don't get surgery.
  18. TJS is pretty common among players nowadays. I remember KC had a rash of surgeries a couple years back. Most teams go through this, it just seems particularly frustrating for the Twins because they've been hit with some of their best players and prospects going down in recent years (Liriano, Baker, Gibson, now Sano). It stings a lot more when your good players go down... Not so much the Alex Wimmers of the world.
  19. *Alex Meyer waves frantically from Ft Myers, yelling "me-me-me-me-me-me-me-me!"*
  20. Like I said, Joe might be able to do it. Torre isn't a great comp because he was two years younger when he made the transition and he had loads more starts at first through his mid-20s. But I don't think it's really fair to ask Joe to learn the position during Spring Training. That's asking a bit much, even for Joe Mauer. Maybe if all of this went down in October, he would have had time to prepare during the offseason.
  21. Well, it lines up Sano and Buxton to come up at the same time. His service clock hasn't started yet. He's a position player, not a pitcher, so the rehab time is 6-8 months, not 14-16 months. Also, this means that if Sano turns out as expected, the Twins get an additional prime age 27-28 season on the cheap. All in all, this isn't disastrous. Frustrating, definitely. Disastrous, no. It'd be a lot worse if this was Meyer, not Sano.
  22. Agreed. Because of his athleticism, Joe might be able to do it but not in a month. And probably not as a 31 year old.
  23. It's a bit ridiculous to go against the advice of the most respected TJS doctor in the world.
  24. Which is why I said "helps tell you how often a player made an out", not "tells you how often a player made an out".
